“With liberty and justice for all…”
The catch phrase of this country’s flag prayer gets hammered into the minds of the youth on any given school day. But how detrimental is it to feed children half-truths or bylines that don’t apply to every aspect of the judicial system? When everything you’re taught to believe—as well as systematically protect you—can be reversed and so delicately crumble when you’re faced with the situation. Read the rest of this entry »

After a couple of warmup lap outtakes from Black Milk’s courageously titled Album of The Year, it’s “Welcome” (sorry I had to) that we finally get an official lead single. His work on the boards in this one is compelling as usual and makes the song worth your attention. It’s the last verse shines the brightest as he goes on about the difficulties of being an indie rapper in a shrinking industry. Read the rest of this entry »
Tins and myself have spent the last few weeks in the corner of the TSS e-offices huddling over a laptop, listening to Skipp Coon and Mr. Nick. In case you couldn’t tell, we’re quite the fans. Read the rest of this entry »
Remember when we depended on magazines completely and an entertainer would do the typical press run before and after a release before slowly stepping out of the limelight until the next album? Yeah, been over and things are no longer done that. Read the rest of this entry »
“I hate how rappers use the term fresh so loosely…”

No, I don’t drink anymore but I have fond early life memories associated with stealing sips out of Miller ponies before I could I even hold the bottles with one hand. These days, I just like design and the “champagne of beers” gets a clean, new look. Read the rest of this entry »

Grip Plyaz is as country as it gets. His accent is as thick as the models he enlisted for his “Step Out” video, and his references are chock full of Southern-fried slanguage. With Volume 2 around the corner and Purp, Wind And Fire not too far behind, it looks as if the ATLien will be making waves this year. And it begins with 6 Pack: Volume 1, presented by DJ FU, Governed By Loyalty and TSS. Read the rest of this entry »
Besides the gummy highs, these are the only white-based kicks or Air Force 1′s that I’ve quietly had my focus on for the summer and now we finally get a few hi-res pictures of them. Inspired by luxury and lifestyle associated with The Hamptons, these feature the butter leather that Nike saves for projects like this, normally a grade that’s both soft and comfortable but more durable than what’s used on standard GR releases. After that, the use of the translucent black outsole (it doesn’t show as much dirt) and the detailing make these rock whether you’re at a white party in Long Island or plan to rock’em around downtown Nashville like myself. I don’t know about you, but I’m so over the NBA’s free agency season right now. I’ve come to realize that I prefer my free agent signings to appear as blurbs across the bottom of ESPN’s screen or as breaking news interrupting diving outfield grabs on SportsCenter. Read the rest of this entry »
Another day, another mention of Curren$y and Pilot Talk and that’s okay. After Wayne stole his style and ran with it, Spitta went underground and built his own following. So while he’s had tremendous viral success during that time, he’s never been the recipient of this much (loosely) scripted promo and mainstream support throughout his whole career. This could be as random a collaboration as we may see, featuring Gucci the certified trapper and gun-clapper alongside Talib the rapper. The glue that binds them has to be Zaytoven’s slow, spooky beat that let’s both artists naturally coexist in such a small space. Read the rest of this entry »

This Rae snippet is only one verse, but it’s that reinvigorated Rae that could probably serve a playlist well. And these NB’s, they’re Spring/Summer 2011 and they’re most likely UK releases. No other pics available but the 3M and nubuck mixtures look excellent. Read the rest of this entry »
