Vybz Kartel x Clarks

07.10.10 Written by Gotty™

I remember once trying to explain to a fellow TSS staffer that Clarks were not limited to prep school kids. They transcend ethnicity, dictated by the wearer’s style. Maybe now this friend who shall remain nameless will abandon that belief once he finds out that Jamaican rudeboys are loyal to them too. Read the rest of this entry »

Stream: Capone-N-Noreaga’s The War Report 2

07.10.10 Written by MZ

I’m not gonna lie, when rumors first started swirling about Capone & Nore revisiting Iraq & Kuwait, I was a bit skeptical. I knew that anything was possible after Rae struck lightning in a bottle, but far too much time seemed to have passed for the Queens duo to not embarrass themselves, let alone live up to the standard The War Report set. Rick Ross Feat. Jay-Z & John Legend – “Free Mason”

07.10.10 Written by Gotty™

Rawse brings along Hov & John Legend for what could possibly be the biggest collaboration (in name at least) on Teflon Don. What it brings in stature doesn’t make up for the lack of vigor which just isn’t present. Read the rest of this entry »

Joell Ortiz And Jay Electronica At Highline Ballroom

07.09.10 Written by Devin Chanda

Last Tuesday night, Jay Electronica was the slated headliner at the Highline Ballroom. It must have slipped my mind that Joell Ortiz was named as co-headliner, but the BK representer made sure to give the Slaughterhouse Stans filling the place their due. After CyHi and Big K.R.I.T. hit the stage to a swarm of boos and jeers (the typical response Southern cats get up here in NY), Joell came on to a hero’s welcome. Read the rest of this entry »

Malice Brings The Bible To The Trap

07.09.10 Written by David D.

Malice’s Vlogs have been pretty fascinating since their inception. You can tell by listening to his music that he lives or at least has lived what he raps about. These videos only accentuate the fact that Clipse have an innate ability to paint vivid and gripping pictures of the dope game. Read the rest of this entry »

Aquaforce – The Legend Of Tony Earl

07.09.10 Written by David D.

I’ve attended a few Hip-Hop shows in New Orleans, and at seemingly every show is Aquaforce. The duo brings a ton of energy, and the music holds up well. They are like a New Orleans-styled Cool Kids, bringing Chicago style – musically and fashion-wise – to the Big Easy. Their music follows a simple formula – 808 and sample-heavy beats that are only amplified by light-hearted and witty bars. Read the rest of this entry »

Vic Mensa – Straight Up EP

07.09.10 Written by TC

If you’re anything like me or the rest of my TSS Crew, the thought of a seventeen-year-old rapper these days will give you the side eye and the Cam’ron face. Surely their styles are likely to be a mix of Weezy and Soulja Boy. Not quite the case for Chicago’s Vic Mensa. Read the rest of this entry »

Kanye’s Album Really Did Leak

07.09.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Don’t get too excited, it’s not that album. It is something you may want to take some time to invest in though. I can’t remember exactly when they began leaking, but I do recall stumbling across random tracks recorded by Kanye West, GLC, Timmy G and Arrowstar every now and then through various outlets. The group was known as the “Go Getters” and the time frame was long before Kanye would embed himself in our consciousness. Read the rest of this entry »

Black Spade – “I Heart” Video

07.09.10 Written by K1NG

Photo: Made Monarchs

One of the negative things that the internet has caused over the last couple years in Hip-Hop is the depletion of sampling. Thankfully, with the rise in popularity of original mixtapes on the national scene, we have begun to see a re-emergence of the sounds of old.

Black Spade, the St. Louis jack of all trades who makes your favorite rapper’s skill set pale in comparison, recaptures this sound in his song “I Heart,” Read the rest of this entry »

Dan Gilbert Is No Longer A Witness

07.09.10 Written by TC

Nothing lasts forever, people. If flushing your goldfish in the toilet didn’t teach you that, then your first breakup certainly did. Yet and still, human nature tricks us into believing we can forcibly control the circumstances of life. As we already know, LeBron is headed south, away from his native Ohio. But for Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, that was too much to bear. So he did want any trillionaire crybaby would do — Read the rest of this entry »
