Ras Kass – “I Am Legend”

07.19.10 Written by Gotty™

With A.D.I.D.A.S. finally dropping tomorrow, the last leak from Ras & Rhettmatic’s project is actually the intro song, entitled “I Am Legend.” And it’s dope as always but I’m slightly biased. Read the rest of this entry »

Starlito Feat. Gucci Mane – “I Go Ham (Remix)”

07.19.10 Written by Gotty™

Lito and Mr. La Flare together? Go hammington. Not really sure if this song actually translates to “cool” on the internuts, but seeing crowds react to it live is just one of those experiences that endears a track to you. In fact, it’s like watchin’ “Grey Goose” catch on all over again. Read the rest of this entry »

Wavves – “King Of The Beach”

07.19.10 Written by Ryan J.

Surf punk bands have been dime-a-dozen over the past decade, appealing mainly to pre-teen girls and habitual PacSun shoppers. However, charismatic frontman — and Freddie Gibbs’ future collaboration partner — Nathan Williams and his band, Wavves, are taking a chainsaw to the notion that neo-punk bands can’t be rebellious with their single, “King of the Beach.” Read the rest of this entry »

Avriel Epps – “Be Cool” x “Gave You Away”

07.19.10 Written by Gotty™

Ever heard of Avriel Epps? Me neither, but seeing that she has an upcoming EP produced by Cook Classics was enough to warrant a listen. Listening to “Be Cool” piqued my interests enough make me listen to “Gave You Away” and there’s a definite, solid connection between her delightful voice and CC’s rich production. Not making any lofty proclamations, except that when Liberation drops I’ll make time for a listen. Read the rest of this entry »

Coming Attractions: Nike Air Trainer Max 91

07.19.10 Written by Gotty™

Trainers are starting to make their way into my shoe rotation. Coincidentally, Nike’s bringing back the Trainer 91′s, last seen in 2004. Most will remember the OG black & white colorway but the grey stone/medium yellow’s are quite nice (and show less wear than the dust-magnet black nubucks). Read the rest of this entry »

…And Then There Was X…And Kim.

07.19.10 Written by Gotty™

Fresh out of jail and out on bail parole, DMX joined Lil Kim on stage as she brought her circus through Arizona this past weekend. If anybody knows why the crowd was screaming as if these two still held any starpower, feel free to drop me a line. Read the rest of this entry »

A Tribute To Coltrane

07.18.10 Written by Gotty™

Acknowledging sentimental dates & occasions isn’t my thing, online or off. With Coltrane, it’s different because there’s no other single artist who has had more influence on me as a person or the spirit of this site. Read the rest of this entry »

It just didn’t seem right to interject with this yesterday while everyone was having so much fun in the “Hip-Hop Is For The Kids” post. Instead, let’s slide in last week’s happenings right here where there’s plenty of room.

The Story Of How LeBron Was Won

07.18.10 Written by MZ

For all the public speculation about LeBron’s free agency, one could only imagine the inner workings between his camp and all the interested parties vying for his services. Usually, we’d never hear about what really went down until years after the fact, when the books about ‘Bron’s career would begin to surface. Read the rest of this entry »

Young Money Execution

07.18.10 Written by J. Tinsley

To be quite honest, I’m not even sure how long this track has been out. I came across it this morning, liked it and here we are now. According to more knowledgeable sources, the song originates from a new Jae Millz mixtape entitled Dead Presidents. Having 27 members in the camp, I stopped a long time ago trying to keep up with all the music coming from YM. Read the rest of this entry »

John Legend & The Roots Feat. Common & Melanie Fiona – “Wake Up Everybody”

07.18.10 Written by Gotty™

Often, the phrase “we’re going to make a whole album together” can be assumed to be complete malarkey. Half-conceived words often spurred by intoxicants and the rush associated with an interview. Even if the project does make it past the concept stage, it’s often tripped up by label red tape. Read the rest of this entry »

DJ Crisis x Drumma Boy – Shut Up & Listen Vol. 10

07.18.10 Written by Gotty™

In the weekly mp3 chase, it’s easy to get swamped and drown. That’s why the DJ still plays a crucial role in this rap thing by putting their stamp on which tracks are even worth the listen. This week, I give the spotlight to the Nashville homie DJ Crisis for Shut Up & Listen Vol. 10, where’s he’s joined by Memphis native Drumma Boy playing the host position.
