D.C. is a proud sports town, even given the fact they haven’t won anything of significance since the ‘Skins 1991 Superbowl. This summer, however, has allowed the residents and the surrounding areas of Chocolate City to build some sense of hope. They’ve still got the best hockey player on the planet in Alex Ovechkin. Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb are allegedly going to lead the Redskins to the promised land. Steven Strasburg is hands down the hottest ticket in town. Ted Leonsis is one of the best owners in sports while recently assuming control of the downtrodden Wizards. And the arrival of John Wall make those Gilbert Arenas/John Wayne days seem like a thing of the (distant) past.
I’m still kicking myself for not having NBA TV. Even though all the games look like high school all-star contests, I still like keeping myself abreast on who the rookies and sleepers (Reggie Williams – Golden State) are to look out for during the upcoming season. As a person who has stamped Wall on TSS for nearly a year now, it’s good to see the young fella have a good first outing as a professional.
Having a stat line of 24-8-2 in your debut is impressive, albeit against not exactly the top talent the league has to offer. He also has to learn how to take better care of the ball (eight turnovers), but in the eternal words of Jay Bilas, “he’ll grow into that.” I think that’s how he said it. Will the Wizards be a title contender this year? Not even, but they will be more exciting to watch that’s for damn sure. Especially with the addition of Kirk Hinrich and the apparent emergence of Javel McGee and Andre Blatche. Keyword: “apparent.” I’m even contemplating buying a partial season ticket plan that’ll get me into the “best” 13 games of the season.
I just hope ol’ Johnny boy doesn’t decide to play cards with Gilbert. That never ends well.

heath shuler, gus frerotte, dana stubblefield, dan wilkinson, adam archuleta, albert haynesworth, deon sanders, mark carrier. the list goes on. As a skins fan, im happy mcnabb came here, his legacy (whatever little it was) is going to be obliterated. I love it.
even though im from here, im not a wizards fan but i will root for them as long as they arent playing against the sixers, i didnt like john wall for this team. i figured he was just another turnover happy “point guard, but at this point god”, he seems like he could be legit. the best thing he did was to say he skipped the ESPY’s because he couldnt miss practice. good for him.

Quincy Pondexter is down here in NOLA playing for the Hornets.
Also if you don’t have NBATV… at least ESPN.com is streaming all the summer league games
@Pandas
Have you been watching Evan Turner play in summer league? I’m not asking to be an asshole either. I’m asking cause I don’t know lol.
I’ve been hearing he hasn’t looked to impressive thus far. But it’s just summer league, not even summer camp yet. Cousins has been playing like a mad man (I know, lol, bring on the jokes) so far though.
If Turner is looking wack in summer league that is not a good sign. He’s playing against his peers and unsigned players. He should be at least decent.
i have NBA TV and its like “manna from Heaven”
DC (as in Demarcus Cousins) beasted last night by the way.
They’ve still got the best hockey player on the planet in Alex Ovechkin.

Ever heard of Sydney Crosby??? Won the Gold medal in Vancouver 2010, nuff said. I’ve been watching a bit of that NBA Summer league, might as well since there aren’t any sports left to watch now that the World Cup is over. (I know that baseball season is still in progress but notice that I said “sports”)
thank you flea for the baseball remark I enjoy CRICKETT more and that’s sad
Been watching 2-3 summer leagues games since it started last week. Evan Turner didn’t looking like #2 pick, neither did Derrick Favors. Both struggled. Jarue Holiday is playing the point for Philly and Turner needs the ball. Favors looked lost.
Reggie Williams may have hurt him self bad today. Wall has been a beast, but he is averaging 8 T.O.’s a game. Most of the T.O.’s are careless ball handling mistakes that seem like easy fix. Cousin’s is an animal point blank. McGee has play pretty good. Dominique Jones for Dallas is a solid player. Will earn minutes because he can defend. Ok….I could go on and on. These dudes are playing hard….little better than an all star game tho…
If you’re a NBA fan an investment of $189 ($169 for repeat subscribers) towards NBA package (NBA TV comes with it) is a must.
@Thomas
That’s crazy to hear both Turner and Favors are looking poor so far. Anything can change come season time, but summer league is a good factor to gauge by. Reggie Williams grew up in the same area as me, even played my high school in ball quite a few times. Real quiet guy who always went about his business. He did his thing once he was brought up towards the end of last season, so I hope he can continue that. Hopefully he isn’t hurt too bad (pending your talking about ‘hurt’ as in injury).
^ Actually if you have Comcast cable then its only $5 to add NBATV. I’m actually excited about this new NBA season. There are a bunch of obvious brick walls in the league now so I’m interested in seeing how other teams adjust. And in “brick walls”, I mean not only the Heat but I know Western teams are going to have to adjust to how the tall Laker advantage seems to only get worse when Bynum comes back, My Celtics are getting older so I expect fire out of them this year, the new class is really coming into their own (Rose,Jennings, Evens, Durant) and the teams that didn’t get Lebron with all that money. Color me very intrigued.
Wow Cell!!!!!!!!! I think this is the first time you didnt say something negative about the Champs.
OH… and Shannon “I CAN ONLY JUMP HIGH AND GET MORE TATS” Brown should be a wrap!
LOL. I promise you Turk, I never even see you til I make a Lakers comment, then POOF!!
That Lakers L was the hardest thing I’ve remembered witnessing in recent years and I hurt every time that I hear a reference to the Finals. Even though I don’t like the ‘Show, I have a respect for what they can do. And I’m praying that Raja Bell doesn’t go through with the trade.
I wouldn’t worry about Turner. Marcus Banks set the summer league ablaze and when the regular season started the light was out. lol
Jrue Holiday is the man. im happy he is running the point. turner has looked very tentative but i still have confidence in him, no reason to panic. however for the redskins, i think it was already panic time, but now that we lost our rookie tackle for the year, its on… however most of the redskins fans i talk to still say 9-7 or 10-6. we are some delusional bastards, it must be great to be The Dark Lord Snyder.
I enjoy CRICKETT more and that’s sad

nah, it isnt. i much preferred cricket over baseball, even before i learned some of the basic principles… which i still havent grasped. its a damn interesting sport.
@cell
raja signed with utah i think.

Yeah I just saw that when I looked it up. Somebody needed to throw them a bone with the L’s they’ve been taken in this off season. I feel like the Bulls are missing just one piece, but I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe that one piece is Derick Rose becoming a superstar, iono, but even with obtaining a shooter I still get the feeling of it being incomplete.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Wall does this year. It’s pretty apparent that he’s the real deal. Although Washington won’t be contenders anytime soon, it’s crazy how much almost every team in the East has made some kind of move to get better this offseason. Can’t wait to see how all these changes pan out next season.
Wall looked pretty bad in the last game. Didn’t turn the ball over as much but missed about 15 shots from the field. Jeremy Lin and Dominique Jones of Dallas’ summer team killed the Wizards in the fourth quarter.
no lie marcus banks was like mj one year in the summer and was nothing further after that lol
call me when the season starts
“Ever heard of Sydney Crosby??? Won the Gold medal in Vancouver 2010, nuff said.”
Yeah, because that Olympic run was all Crosby.
The NHL All-Stars… I mean Team Canada would’ve won the damn thing if I was on there instead of Crosby.
