Str8 Killa has murdered my desire to listen to anything but Freddie Gibbs for a long time. To whet your palette for the dopeness heading your way on August 3rd, here are some visuals for “National Anthem.” It’s what you’d expect from Gibbs: flashy jewelry, expensive cars, and half-naked chicks.
April Fool’s.
This is the Gibbs we’ve all come to respect: no extra garnish, just grit. The video actually makes a poignant message about the parallels between the streets and the plantation. The song is one of the strongest from the EP and these may be the best visuals Freddie has offered so far.
MTV, where art thou?

WHOA NOW.
Probably the realest dude in it right now
Thanks for the support everyone. We promise we won’t let you down!
One of the first artist I have seen that has the same persona as Tupac. It’s a big statement but watch the video and tell me he doesn’t hold it down.
“…then the friendships stopped, in a flash I was back on my own”…
Story of my life. Can’t wait to but a few copies of that EP.
please dont compare my dude to pac…who i also am quite fond of.
fred has more integrity to his music then pac did.
TRUTH!
Gibbs “Brilliant” t-shirt wasn’t just a coincidence. Major props.
Damn.
EASTSIDE G.I IN DA HOUSE
what’s up with that ‘brilliant’ tee?? i wanna cop one??
anyone know what label/where to find?
Gibbs is dope and a genuine artist, but these comparisons to other emcees is a bit of a stretch. Freddie is in his own lane and sounds like no other in my view.
found it.. http://shop.l-r-g.com/t-shirts/short-sleeved/brilliant-youth-tee-27.html
Comparing Gibbs to Pac does nothing for either artist. Im a huge Gibbs fan, anytime i come across someone who hasnt heard of him, i immediately put them on to him. To me he is the best out right now. However, Tupac is arguably the greatest of all time. He is Jordan status. Not only was he a great lyricist and songwriter, but like Jordan he did more for hip hop becoming mainstream than anyone else. He epitomized early to mid 90′s hip hop. his subject material touched on a broad spectrum of issues and he was one of the most socially active rappers i know of. His interviews were one of a kind. the man was one of the brightest young minds of our time. He knew he could not accomplish all he set out to do..”I’m not saying I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world.” — Tupac Shakur
^ tupac isn’t the greatest of all time. he’s maravich status, you fucking groupie.
he was arguably a better actor than rapper.
gibbs is already >> pac lyrically. and his flow is better.
if this was the 90s Gibbs would’ve blown twice over (pause).
reckful
let me guess. you were born in the 90′s. Pac lyrically will shit on any lame ass rapper today. story teller and social commentator. thats why all these dudes since then are trying to be Pac. Thats why all your favorite rappers pay homage to Pac. listen to his discography and learn something. i cant even reason with you. Better actor than rapper? stop smoking that shit dog. He was the main reason the US government was actually trying to ban hip hop. he was exposing aspects of american life that weren’t supposed to be known. Poverty, drug addiction, rampant crime.
“Can you picture my prophecy? Stress in the city the cops is hot for me. The projects is full of bullets, though bodies is dropping there aint no stoppin me. Constantly movin while makin millions, witnessin killins, leavin dead bodies in abandoned buildings. Carries to childen cuz they illin, addicted to killin and the appeal of the cap peelin. Without feelin but will they last or be blasted, hard headed bastard. Maybe he’ll listen in his casket, the aftermath, more bodies being buried. Im losing my homies in a hurry, they relocatin to the cemetery. Got me worried, stressin, my visions blurry. The question is will i live? Nobody in the world loves me. Im headed for danger, dont trust strangers, put one in the chamber whenever im feelin this anger. Dont wanna make excuses, but this is how it is whats the use? Unless we shootin no one notices the youth.”
One more for you.
“I see no changes. Wake up in the morning and I ask myself. Is life worth living should I blast myself? Im tired of being poor and even worse Im black, my stomach hurts so Im lookin for a purse to snatch. Cops give a damn about a ne-gro, http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2010/07/freddie-gibbs-national-anthem-video#comment-943112pull the trigger kill a nigga, he’s a he-ro. Givin crack to the kids who the hell cares? One less hungry mouth on the welfare. First ship them dope let them deal to brothers, give them guns step back watch them kill each other. Its time to fight back thats what Huey said, two shots in the dark now Huey’s dead. I got love for my brothers, but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin changes, learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers. And thats how its supposed to be, how can the devil take a brother if he’s close to me? I’d love to go back to when we played as kids, but things change, thats the way it is”

I think we should do a poll… Pac or Gibbs? Cuz I love the boy Gibbs, but his album that hasnt even been released cant hold a candle to any of Pac’s 6 albums.
@panda
nigga please, pac wasn’t on some expose shit the american people didn’t already know about. i’m not taking credit away from his discography and social commentary, its undeniably relevant. i take issue with the unjustified nut hugging. Pac has been surpassed by SO MANY rappers lyrically. The only legit claim he has over other rappers is his raw social commentary and persona. thats it.
The idea that pac was some incredible lyricist is a myth perpetuated because of his death by fanboys living in the 90s. Do i really need to name all the rappers lyrically superior to pac? Stop giving in to the hive mind mentality b, he wasn’t as nice as you’re saying.
You don’t have to link me lyrics, I’ve listened to all his stuff.
I was born in 89. And yea, he was a better actor than rapper. Had he not been killed he would’ve had a far more successful film career. Oscar nod potential.
That boy got ups, he cleared that fence easy.
reckful
agree to disagree then. his acting always seemed forced and his lyrics are the best there have been. i listen to music as an art form. i prefer the artist and content over dj’s and catchy hooks. as far as lyrically surpassing him… i dont see it. anywhere at anytime. the only one i can think of who could have put out six cd’s of thought provoking, socially relevant shit would have been Big L. Pac is in a league with a handful of others that few will ever reach.. certainly not someone who doesnt even have an album out.
ELZHI. LUPE. BIG. BIG L. JAY-Z. ROYCE DA 5’9. EM. ANDRE 3k.
All lyrically nicer. do you listen to rap…?
the ‘league’ that you keep referencing is his mythos, not his technical ability as an MC. You’ve been brainwashed b, a damn shame.
also, content=/=lyrical ability.
lupe is a definite no. em had two cd’s that were great, yes. andre fell off as well, before he hit six albums. royce has always been good but never great. jay and big are the closest but i dont dick ride them like most. im sorry that i havent been brainwashed. pac, rakim, GZA, krs one, big daddy kane slaughter all those on your list. my friend, you are a product of hip hop’s pop culture. not its natural lyrical roots.
content = lyrics. i dont care how many tongue twisters you come up with if your content aint shit. my opinion. i can tell you and i will never agree on this however because music, as in all art forms, is about personal opinion. i never think about it before i lunge headfirst into a discussion, but its true, and you cant change another’s opinions very often.
Lyrics definitely doesn’t equal content. Content is the topics or things being touched upon and rapped about, lyrics is the words chosen to express the content.
elzhi is pop?
Get the fuck outta here. Sit down.
reckful
did i even mention elzhi’s name in my response. no i didnt. i havent listened to anything of his outside of slum village so i dont feel i can pass judgement. you should calm down young one, high levels of tension, stress, anger, etc. lead to heart problems down the road. please believe it. to each their own. in my not at all humble opinion, my starting 5 shits on your starting 8 all day, everyday, at night, and on leap years.
Either way, i think we can all agree that Pac is better than Gibbs at this point.
Fugg all this Gibbs Vs Pac talk! lets enjoy this dope ass visual Gibbs has dropped w/ a powerful msg the HE (Gibbs) is telling us about. STR8 KILLA NO FILLA Aug.3
