Given the self-deprecating relationship Hip-Hop has with its elders, it didn’t come as too much surprise when Southern legends 8Ball & MJG decided to trail off into platinum pastures, joining Diddy Combs’ Bad Boy Records in 2004. The duo enjoyed moderate success before the deal soured — as their known to do over at Daddy’s House — but having a such a credible track record, the boys from Orange Mound were able to land on both feet over at T.I.’s Grand Hustle headquarters. Reading Rolling Stone lately has been an exercise in patience. Just last month, I saw a department in the magazine about SXSW that talked about the event without mention of a single Hip-Hop act, so needless to say, I’ve already soured on the publication. Like a conditioned robot though, I still picked up their newly revised “500 Greatest Songs of All-Time” issue yesterday. The actual mixtape isn’t what it used to be but every now and then a good one comes along. This one dropped last week and I can’t front to say I’ve listened to the whole thing yet. Steve let his worst kept secret loose at WWDC 2010 this week when he officially unveiled the iPhone 4. I could go on and on about the nerdy tidbits like any other tech blog, however, the biggest changes that casual users will notice from the gate is fresh OS, the improved screen, better battery/processor and the new front facing camera. Quite frankly, Redman could call this joint Mud Ducks & Grape Jelly and it wouldn’t change the fact the Funk Doctor is putting it down regardless of mainstream attention, concrete release dates or whatever the little tykes call music. It’s been hard to put into words the devastation the BP oil spill in the Gulf has caused. Every time I go to a seafood restaurant in New Orleans, a waiter tells me about fears that the business will crumble due to the expected seafood shortages.
