Jive Records can eat a bag of baby dongs.
We’ve waited damn near a decade for new Outkast (no, Idlewild doesn’t count) and Jive records has pretty much guaranteed that the reunion won’t be taking place on Big Boi’s forthcoming album. Big explained the whole scenario to the good folks at the Gentleman’s Quarterly.
This morning, the tracklist for the final version of Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty hit the internet, and none of the songs you’ve recorded with Dré are on there. No “Royal Flush,” and no “Lookin For Ya.” What gives?
Well, basically it boils down to Jive Records. That’s how they do it. Jive Records told me my album is a piece of art, and they didn’t know what to do with it. So I moved it over to Def Jam. And now Jive is trying to block Dré from being on my record. We can’t be on songs together now.
So because OutKast as a group is signed to Jive, they’re able to legally block the two of you from working together?
Au contraire! They cannot block it. Au contraire. Either they’re going to do it the right way, or they’re going to do it my way. How you wanna do it? The fans thirst will be quenched. You know, I’m no stranger to that internet, baby. So you already know what time it is. The thirst of the fans will be quenched.
“Royal Flush” with Dré and Raekwon has been out since 2008, but you’re saying we will be hearing “Lookin For Ya” [with André] even though it’s not on the album?
I guarantee it.
Chico Dusty didn’t raise a liar. Sir Lucious liberated the track last night. The good news is my self-imposed fast from leaked tracks from Big Boi can end as this song doesn’t technically count. The bad news is the obvious fact that those ritzy bastards at Jive have pretty much nixed any new Outkast material over the fact that Big Boi wanted to release his music on an actually viable record label.
I don’t know how much traction this can get…but who’s with me on boycotting Jive until they give Three Stacks his freedom papers and allow us to hear Outkast together on …Chico Dusty? We deserve it.
Big Boi Feat. André 3000 and Sleepy Brown – “Lookin’ For Ya” | Download

I will tell you from direct experience… Sony/BMG does not play. I would not put them up there with Warner, but much like Warner they are a label that simply loves to show anyone and everyone “who is in charge.”
Even I have taken an “L” once or twice with them (with substantial financial losses).
Most labels will bend; they will not.
Fuck Jive.
They jerked Tribe, KRS, The Clipse & most of the rap acts that got signed over there during the 90′s, so this is nothing new.
Glad to finally hear this in its entirety but fuck all that noise with Jive keeping Dre off the album. Hopefully this situation doesn’t stifle their creativity because don’t they have one more obligation to Jive?
Their practices are in the name
My very first post on TSS was this song last July, but it was just Dre. I’m still reluctant to listen just for the mere thought it MAY end up on the album.
I’ll check back in in about three hours though lol.
Au contraire! (c)
Very ill track. One of the few Boi 1da tracks i’ve genuinely enjoyed. That Clipse line is just ringing in my ear now.
Glad to finally hear this in its entirety but fuck all that noise with Jive keeping Dre off the album. Hopefully this situation doesn’t stifle their creativity because don’t they have one more obligation to Jive?
====================================================================
I hope that is the case, so they can slap together a bogus best of album complete their contract, bounce from Jive and get started on some new Outkast music.
in the words of the clipse them crackers still aint playing fair at jive man once they got u they got u thats why most artist should do there own label shit
Same for me. I hear that line everytime I see, hear or think Jive in any fashion.
Fuck Jive.
We’ve waited damn near a decade for new Outkast (no, Idlewild doesn’t count)
==============================
Convenient omission, cause that album is turrible.
Jive can go Die for that bullshit. These guys are one of the best hip hop groups EVER. FUCK LABELS
Rappers need to take note…
::sigh::
I was waitin on yall to post this. Im surprised that Big Boi is getting this much hassle to get radio play, while Wocka and Travis Porter got the radio on lock. Thats just crazy to me… Dre is fuckin around though, he needs to release an album bad.
I think of that Clipse line everytime I hear about BS like this with Jive! If you are a Hip Hop act you should never sign there because they have never been able to handle them properly!
Didn’t Pimp C have a line about Jive too?
This joint is still hot. He should release it as an independent single.
Idlewild catches way too much hate. Had some bangers on there and don’t front. Hollywood Divorce, N2U, Mighty O, Idlewild Blues, and a few others are all solid tracks. If anybody else made that album it would have been received way better. Just happens that Kast demands a different level of performance than the rest of the game. A gift and a curse.
As for this clusterfuck at Jive, you have to think about their motivations. If they’re trying to squeeze one last kast album wouldn’t they at least try to handle their relationship delicately and try and keep it on good terms. Fuck boys don’t know what to do. Bottom line is: The music is getting released. They both kill it. We should just relish in the fact that Outkast is on a track together and we can hear it.
I’m with MDot. “Idlewild” is Outkast’s “Let it Be.” (Beatles, not the Replacements).
and this song is dope.
I just finished read Maurice Garland’s piece on Big Boi and that shit just makes me sad. Some people put hip-hop’s decline squarely on the record labels but radio is just as culpable if you ask me. And Greg Street was talking some bullshit. I have a group of friends whose musical preferences pretty much cover the full spectrum of rap (from underground to ignorant) and everyone agrees that Big Boi’s leaks have been fire. Go buy that cd on July 6th and give the man his due.
Link to the article is under the smoke break btw.
didnt jive sign papoose for 1.5m too and then just sat him on a shelf?
Mighty O was bananas. folk forgot. they went in on that one. the whole album was just okay… but it had about 5 or 6 hot coals in there…
Hey remember when Prince wrote “slave” on his face over this very same issue like 10 years ago? But everybody from Jay Leno to nightly newscasters to the innernuts called him all kinds of “fool” “jerk’ “bitch” “‘a**hole” over it? Folks laughed and clowned Rogers for years.
Now everyone wanna pump a black fist over labels vs. artists.
juss sayin…
Lemme add this:
Much as big labels blow, has anyone ever considered the possibility that 3K don’t wanna do Outkast no more? I mean, dude’s not exactly standing with his brother-in-arms these days.
Other than talking movies and fashion, when’s the last time anyone heard Andre talk about making music of any kind?
Dude just might wanna move on.
Can we assume that TSS will add up the amount of mistakes that the major’s have made in the past generation and make a great list…
… Just to prove to musicians going that route may be the mistake of their career.
While I’m not a huge advocate of “the radio” and “mainstream play, you first have to understand how radio play works before you blame DJs and the artists themselves. Trust, its way BIGGER than that.
@Canseco
I been feelin that way for a minute now like…Couldn’t they sit down and just bang out tracks on Tools 8 and call it a day. have someone leak it to some sites and get that Kast buzz goin so the labels would HAVE to throw somethin out there…I dont know if he want it anymore. I dont know if he wants the music anymore.
crazy joint;
real oukast ish !
OUTKAST NEW LP 2011,
but the question iz …
before or after Detox ???
did the same thing to the UGK… remember they had Dirty Money ready to go in like 98….didn’t get released until 2001 on bitch ass Jive records
@Black Canseco
you hear him on this track and on Nike commercials? Of course he is still into music making that’s what he does and that’s who he is. He’d rather make some classic shit than to just be releasing shit just because. I’m patiently waiting on him.
I used to think the same thing about Cee-Lo but look now…we got an albums worth of material in the span of 4 weeks through OST’s and mixtapes with an album on the way and Goodie Mob cooking.
The more the story continues to unfold I can now see why OutKast hasn’t released anything as a group. It’s the label all the way. They won’t let them make OutKast music..so dre said fuck yall and Big Boi got his solo deal with Def Jam for 3 albums. Now bitch ass Jive wanna block 3000′s collaboration???? That’s that bullshit.
Da Art of Storytelling Pt. 4 was 2008 (aka not that damn long ago) Big Boi is not telling lies. I believe Andre 3000 really is working on that album and that they are cooking up the new OutKast album. I think they should sign as a group somewhere else under a different moniker (is that legal???it should be).
outkast just happns 2b my fav group of all time.with EVERY album bein 1000x bettr thn anythng any1 els has or will evr releas(slight exaggeration).they r light yrs ahead of ths rap game so its only rite the powrs tht b dont undrstand or giv a good gotdamn about thm.i just hope n pray 2da black jesus outkast is outkast again…..
*chants*
INDEPENDENT…INDEPENDENT…INDEPENDENT!!!
Jive eats colostomy bags, def. far as radio sh|t’n'all, Big Rome’s got it. That telecom act of ’96 buttfckd any possibility of music on the radio that han’t been focus-grouped to death. CC and independent promoters raped radio.
yeah the real question is before or after Detox. Come onnnnnnn wheres that Jay song at…
i was just about to shout “Au contraire!” and realized someone beat me to it :-\
Jive is just that
I do not believe I have purchased or even DL’ed a Jive album since I forked over my hard earned for Clipse’s HHNF round Xmas ’07.
or maybe UGK…. other than than that Jive can suck a dick.
shit Atlantic can too. Sure at least Atlantic has a couple artists worth a spin…but they fucked up one of the most promising projects (IMHO)of the past decade with Saigon and the apparent Greatest Story Never Told.
And they wonder why people aren’t purchasing albums no more. SMFH
Free The Art .let the music live on.We sick of you Jive turkeys..get yo foot off hip hop’s neck and let it progress.1
Everybody wanna know why the album was late
I was waiting on WHITEY to getmyfuckin paper straight
3stacks on that ciara remix. snappin.
and fuck JIVE with a sick dick
