In case you’ve been too busy watching real sports to notice, MLB pitching has gotten much better thanks to the fact that hitters have stopped injecting steroids into their bums. There have been two perfect games in the last month, only the 19th and 20th instances in MLB history. Last night was going to be the 21st thanks to Detroit Tigers pitcher, Armando Galarraga. That was until umpire Jim Joyce remembered section 5 paragraph 12 of the Unwritten Sports Manual that states that nobody from Detroit shall ever know the feeling of joy again. Joyce then decided to call the Indians’ Jason Donald safe at first base even though he was clearly out by a mile 2/3 of the way through the ninth inning.
I had no clue who Jim Joyce was, so I visited his Wiki page at about 11 last night and saw that a few Tigers fans had taken some liberties with Joyce’s history:
James A. Joyce III (October 3 1955 – June 2, 2010) is the very worst umpire in Major League Baseball who has worked in the American League (AL) from 1987 to 1999 and throughout both major leagues since 2000.
…and *COMPLETELY* fucked up Armando Galarraga’s perfect game against the Cleveland Indians on June 2nd, 2010. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
Perfect Game blown call
• Major league profile
On June 2nd, 2010, he umpired 1st base at the Tigers-Indians game. Armando Galarraga had pitched a perfect game through 8 and 2/3′s innings. On a possibly the worst call in the history of sports, Jim Joyce called Jason Donald safe at 1st base. Replays showed Scott was out by about 2 feet.
HE IS BLIND. Someone put him out of his misery. He doesn’t deserve a penus [sic].Trejo
Jim Joyce is a big fat joe (Gay)
JIm Joyce sucks d*ck
Here’s hoping Joyce stays far away from 8 mile in all of his future travels. Here’s also hoping that he has a nice Career Builders account set up. He might need it soon.
When was the last time baseball was in the news for being awesome? Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

fuckin horrid call. I liked ur rulebook reference tho DD. lol.
This’ll teach the MLB not to incorporate Replay. You gotta still count this as a perfect game with an * on the side.
id put a hit out
i dont know how you mess this up. ive seen calls that are waaaay closer, and they were still called right.
i think his mustache got in the way.
This call is wacker than the technical foul that Kendrick Perkins received in the NBA Playoffs.

*DEAD*
LMAO @ the commentator
“Oooh my goodness…Jim Joyce…nooooo”
This call is wacker than the technical foul that Kendrick Perkins received in the NBA Playoffs.

I still believe that those calls we’re an elaborate scheme put together by Phil to give Bynum an even playing field.
@ TC
That was his Leon Lett moment.
“Someone touches the football……It’s LEON LETT, NOOOOOOOO!”
I believe they rescinded the call.
^ Still… homey couldn’t celebrate or nothing. The umpire stole his moment.
@Tins….they’re still debating on whether to or not. Bud Selig technically can but he’s deciding
From when I was a junior in HS until a senior in college I used to umpire PT cause the money was good (occasionally hungover depending on the time of day). I mostly umped 8-9 year olds, 10-11, and 12-14. It’s a thankless job in the sense that when you’re doing well people don’t notice but as soon as you screw up everyone knows and I’ve blown a couple calls, it’s the nature of the game. But that was little league shit and wasn’t on TV and people forgot within a couple of days. This shit on the other hand will live on in infamy forever and be replayed until armageddon. Sucks for the ump, I can only imagine how shitty he must feel. I give him props for owning up to his mistake immediately though like a man and not blaming anyone but himself. Selig should do the right thing, change the hit to an out and remove that last AB (28th batter) from the record.
What sucks is when a player in the MLB or the NBA or the NFL for that matter calls out officials they get hit with fines. Because as this play reminds us, the judgments of refs and umps are above reproach and don’t deserve to be criticized.
Ever.
Bud Selig was never any good on the car sales business in Milwaukee and for the most part is even worst as MLB’s commissioner. Besides he doesn’t have stones to right Joyce’s wrong.
Just an example of two that should definitely step down from MLB – one because of eyesight and the other who’s afraid of committment
Bud Selig stood up to Barry Bonds tho. Roger Clemens, Giambi and the rest? Not so much.
Selig’s beyond half-assed. More like quarter-assed.
wow, he should have just called him out even if he was safe smh
Worst call in the history of the game (in a game that had little importance)
Selig is in Milwaukee all the time, if I see him here, I’ll tell him that this was fucked up for him not to turn it into a perfect game. I see no way in how this isn’t reverse.
And to the pitcher, he showed class like crazy man. I hope something happens for him to get it.

perfect haha.
“Is This The Worst Call In The History Of Sports?”
Nah, I’d say the worst would be any call Pete Rose made to his bookie.
Stop writing sports articles. Stick to the NBA.
