Miss a couple of days online and you miss a multitude of music. Thankfully, most of it is disposable and didn’t matter much anyways. Yet, this Ode To Illmatic should be different than the average fodder that passes through the inbox. And it’s only fitting that Fashawn create a “thank you” for the man and album who we’ve compared him to previously.
“What I wanted to do with this was pay homage to the God, Nas Escobar, one of the greatest MCs of my generation, of our generation, and I want to pay homage to this album,” Fash prefaces on the tape intro, “Genesis.” “I just didn’t wanna bite it and rip it like it’s mine, I wanna pay homage, ’cause Illmatic was one of them kinda albums that really impacted my life in a big way so hopefully this does the same for you.”

Still not sure about this.
Illmatic is one of those albums that it’s damn near blasphemous to fuck around with.
But as much as Fash has been compared to Nas, I think he’s smart enough to give the material it’s proper respect.
I’ll bite.
Iunno if it’s because I’m a Fashawn Stan, but I liked the tape. Yes he did bite a few lines, but he keeps his own flow and does give a proper tribute to the great album.
He also was great on my favorite track “It ain’t hard to tell”.
It’s cool that he puts my favorite quote on the front cover.
I still don’t really think the comparisons are correct but whatever
I can’t wait to listen to the mixtape; even though I don’t see the Nas comparison. He is a very talented MC
man, i ain’t had no mickey’s in years…
Kudi goin that DMX route…
TMZ has learned Kid Cudi was arrested in NYC today for felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.
Sources say Kid took a 24-year-old woman’s phone and slammed it to smithereens. He also allegedly broke the door of her apartment off its hinges.
Cops arrived and found a glass bottle of a controlled substance.
The West Coast’s Nas…will check out.
Kinda makes me wanna listen to the original. Sounding pretty good so far though.
It’s a shame about Cudi. Shit came straight outta left field. Another good nigga losing the battle to the white devil. I wonder what this means for Chip The Ripper and How to Make it in America?
My favorite track on this has to be his remake of One Love. He payed Nas proper homage and dropped some gems for the current generation. Much respect to him as I was in 7th grade when this classic dropped.
I’m with Amp this could be dangerous but Fashawn is skilled enough as an Emcee to pull this off. Plus I read he got a co sign from NaS. So if Esco is cool with it, I guess I am too.
I hate when people do tapes like this but Fashawn actually pulled it off… Willie the Kid DIDN’t (Outkast), Gravy DIDN’t (Jay-Z), etc…
Wasnt a big fan of this on initial listen. He did kill “Memory Lane” and “One Time 4 Your Mind” but he shoulda left this untouched.
Whoever started comparing Fash to Nas needs a slap for real. Even the Jay Elecet/Nas comparison is off but, it’s still closer than a Fashawn/Nas comparison. Fash is his own man and I like the material he makes for himself. Why can’t cats enjoy a nigga’s music and keep it movin? Nas is still alive and Illmatic is his album. Paying homage to that man is shouting him out in a rhyme, talkin bout him in an interview or dappin him up in-person. Not remaking his whole LP… that’s something else yo. As talented as Fash is, he could make his own 5-mic album.
I think Kid Captain Coolout said it best. I loved Fash’s “Boy Meets World”, but this should’ve been left undone. His paying homage to Nas is wonderful and all, but when I hear those beats, all I want is Nas’ voice & to cherish how “ill” that classic was, is & will always be. I have to push the aggravation of someone else’s voice over those classic beats to analyse the lyrics & then, yeah, they pretty good. He should have done his own album with whatever producer he wanted. He’s got major potential, just leave the King alone!
where can i download or purchase this?
