Sweat beads down your forehead. Your breaths become shorter; your leaps get taller. Your hands get higher; your inhibitions lower. The rhythm enters you as you begin to lose your individuality and blend into the sea of hands moving up and down with every beat. The adrenaline so high, you can taste it. The intensity so strong, you can feel it. Everything you’ve ever learned is forgotten. Lost in a moment you don’t ever want to end.

The phenomenon that happens when you’re at a Hip-Hop show is one of the reasons I fell in love with the genre. Being in a small venue with a crowd packed in tight, reciting lyrics back to a performer who you feel like you know through the power of their lyrics is one of the most exhilarating experiences one can find themselves experiencing.

Of course, each sector of music has their distinctive merits when it comes to live performance. For example, when electronic heavyweights Tiesto and Diplo team up to rock for the Winter Music Conference 2010 in Miami, the result is monumental. If the performance video for their collaboration “C’mon” doesn’t make you want to hop on a flight to Miami the instant the video stops, you might want to check your pulse.
