Ever get that feeling where you’re trying to explain something, you can’t get it right and it becomes so overwhelming you just clinch your fists and give up? Well, that’s almost where I’m at in regards to these two new Ratatat records from their upcoming album, LP4.
The coolest crooner in America continues to capitalize on his accidental treasure, A Strange Arrangement, with a guest-starring role in his new video for “One Track Mind.” With a storyline similar to hit indy flick Lars And The Real Girl, Ann Arbor’s own Soul artist compliments his echo of 2648 W. Grand with an oddball sitcom-style set-up.
Drake is looking for love. And the rest of us are looking for a reason to like this song. Now, there’s a video to accompany the Kanye-produced “Find Your Love” from Drake’s upcoming Thank Me Later debut. In the clip, Drizzy channels his days as Jimmy to show off his acting chops in a video that’s as over-dramatic as Gossip Girl. Read the rest of this entry »
Fresh of her first official Mother’s Day and coinciding MILF induction ceremony, the ultra radical M.I.A. has chunked up the deuce to her maternity leave and dropped the first official single off her much-anticipated and still untitled album. Industrial, menacing and ready for club destruction, “XXXO” is 100-plus-proof shot of high-octane musical enslavement, which is nowhere near as original as “Paper Planes,” but has way more potential to blow. While their Summer ’10 Look Book will debut later this week, Orisue put out this behind the scenes footage of the photo shoot, compiled by Hip-Hop Official’s Daylan Williams. Very likable goods, looking beach-made and ready for those looking to upgrade from white tees. Watch for the unveiling @ www.orisue.com. Read the rest of this entry »
Despite a decent amount of music enthusiasts at the nine to five, there aren’t too many people who can introduce me to an artist or music that I haven’t heard of before. Not really a fault of my co-workers; just a simple truth. So when I asked this girl what she was listening to after noticing her standing in the corner bobbing her head & totally consumed in the music, I was expecting some obscure Dominican artist and not VV Brown. Unplugging her headphones, I was greeted to a big voice with that familiar British tinge & ’50s/’60s styling that I’ve come I enjoy quite well over the past few years. Read the rest of this entry »
About two months passed since I got up to speed with the “Online Gamer” series. Now he’s back with his latest rage-filled antics reminiscent of Darius Sinclair™ in hardcore team deathmatch. “Online Gamer 3″ isn’t as funny as his previous outings but it’s still dripping with geek humor; especially when he used those glaucoma-causing special edition night goggles to get through a blackout.
This flick also has some bizarre timing as my 360 died on me about a two and a half weeks ago. So naturally the red ring scene struck a nerve since my system crapped out in a similar fashion. Nevertheless I couldn’t help but chuckle when he talked to Microsoft’s customer support. Speaking from personal experience, that’s pretty much how the convo transpires: right down to the convenience of your console being out of warranty. Just envision “Jim” with a heavy Indian accent and you’re golden.
I guess I should keep it 100 and mention that MS is repairing my system for free after I explained how it kicked the bucket. But it’s unnecessary to have to deal with this crap while Bill and Co. make it rain. At least I can thank this video for putting a campy spin on an otherwise irritating situation.
If there’s a chance that you haven’t been keeping up with whole split between Gucci & Nicki Minaj from their manager, Deb Antney, this may be a tad confusing. It’s got more f#ckery than you can shake a stick at. Ms. Deb is Waka Flocka’s momma and Gucci’s auntie (at least that’s what she says in the clip below). She also was instrumental in the early success of all three artists. However, Antney was relieved of her managerial duties by Nicki first and then Gucci.
An essential part of the backstory is that there’s been quiet a stink over who’s managing Gucci and who’s booking his shows…first, there’s scheduling performances out of state when the man couldn’t leave Georgia and then there’s allegedly been dates slated while he’s in jail. Ozone’s Julia Beverly’s thrown her opinion in on the matter (more than once) to help stir the pot, even though she hasn’t been immune to critic for her tactics recently. There’s been firings, cease and desist letters. Add in booking agent Johnnie Cabbell’s name too. At the end of the day, this one has quite a few plot twists & characters that may not rightly make sense, like catching the last episode of season two of The Wire having to backtrack. Confused?
Thankfully, none of that matters. The entertainment here will be Ms. Deb’s words regarding the situation and a few of the parties involved. Terse words. I bet she got a switchblade between them tittays. Why do you think I keep referring to her with complete respect by calling her “Miss”?
There, you halfway brought up to speed and Google can do the rest. I’d get a church fan and a glass of lemonade. This is quality entertainment reminiscent of a BET movie you tried your hardest not to watch but got sucked in anyways.
Anytime a record samples the theme song from Sanford and Son, good times are almost sure to follow. That is exactly the case with this recently uploaded cut from Tip, “Road To Success.” As a man of many personalities on wax, “Road…” features the extremely confident, braggadocious T.I. that we’ve all come to know and appreciate over the years. Mic Terror never ceases to amaze. Although the press release says this one “throws a nod to Peabo Bryson, Teddy Pendergrass and Morris Day” might be a stretch but you better believe Can I Borrow A Feeling? hearkens back to a different time in our music. Simply put, it’s fun. He raps, he harmonizes…and he gets delightfully raunchy on this tape full of quirky odes to the ladies. As Ronnie Fieg’s Super Reds couldn’t be any hotter or highly anticipated, he commissions a lovely named Tanaya Henry (and photographer SQ) for a few snapshots modeling the shoes. I applaud their promotional efforts as you should. Read the rest of this entry »
Labeling artists as geniuses or phenoms has become all too common and, for the most part, baseless these days. True, making hits isn’t easy. But, once upon a time, being a professional musician was once considered a career as opposed to a hobby to open the door for other avenues. Already carving out his own lane before achieving national attention, Bobby Ray Simmons burst on the scene as B.o.B, an Atlanta-bred MC with a penchant for wildman-like raps with lyrical flair. When they play that new Wiz Khalifa, the Internets go crazzzzy. Part of today’s complete stoner breakfast, Kush & Orange Juice is currently the reigning wake ‘n bake soundtrack for 2010. Checking in with MTV, Wiz breaks down a few of the tape’s joints in “Mezmorized,” “Never Been” and “The Kid Frankie.” Read the rest of this entry »
As legend would have it, Robin Thicke, not Glenn Lewis, recorded this as a demo for the late Michael Jackson in 2001 for his Invincible album. It is still numbing to think next month will mark an entire year since Dr. Conrad Murray attempted to “save” the King of Pop’s life. Jacko’s version would eventually be released on The Ultimate Michael Jackson Collection. Read the rest of this entry »
