At this very moment, I’ve only been to New York twice in life. Once for an interview and the other time for New Year’s 2009. A real cool place, but full of people who walk side by side not even acknowledging each others’ existence. The only time they did was when they were cussing each other out to get on the train. Odd, lovable people those New Yorkers are.

That being said, number 71 on my bucket list happens to be to visit Summerjam at least once before the event eventually loses its luster altogether. The music scene may not revolve around the mecca anymore, but it is still an ultra powerful city in regards to its influence. The Big Apple has also been known for their anthems throughout the years. One of the more recent is the 2005 Jim Jones and Trey Songz ode to South Beach, “Summer Wit Miami.” Since then Jimmy seen his star power rise, flop and everything in between.

Fast forward to the present day and the cornrowed capo still has an obsession with his favorite season and why she’s so damn frisky with other cities. “Summer Where You Been?” is a more subdued ballad than its predecessor, but impressive nonetheless with a relaxing vibe and decent lyrics from the man who once threatened to smack Nas’ kufi. Expect to hear this one around Harlem all summer – from the Rucker to the hood block parties. It’s definitely one of those “ride-with-the-windows-down” type tracks.

With Jim making music like this + Cam/Vado continuing to do what they’re doing + Juelz making himself relevant again + Hell Rell’s music (and interviews), a Dipset reunion LP could be one of the better projects to drop this year. Ok, next year.
