Although his name rings the loudest, Rakim isn’t the sole inspiration behind Nas’ studious pen game. In fact, one could argue that Slick Rick’s presence is more dominant in the music of Nasir Jones, especially early in his career. (See the greatest Pete Rock song – concocted by Nas of course – for an obvious example.)
To celebrate the preservation of music history, Levi’s has asked a dozen artists to assist in the 2010 Revival Recordings for the Pioneer Sessions as they recreate some of the classics that helped them mold their own sound. Much props indeed as Hip-Hop kicks off the series as Nas puts his own flavor on MC Ricky D’s “Hey Young World.
