I’m going to go with an analogy here.
Dave Chappelle is Outkast. Tracy Morgan is Bobby Ray.
We all miss Outkast and their work. It won’t ever be repeated. Their level of excellence is above comparison. That doesn’t mean that I can’t see something special in a new talent that brings similar values to the table. While I miss ‘Kast, I’m not going to ignore the potential classic that Bobby’s about to to release.
See where I’m going with this? While I miss the Chappelle Show and his overall presence in civilization and know that nothing will come close to it, I still am going to crown Tracy Morgan as the new reigning kind of comedy. I’ve been loving his media rounds promoting his Death At A Funeral flick as they’ve provided nothing but random comedy. On his most recent trip to the Daily Show, Hustle Man talks about Toby Maguire owing him $75 and gives his take on Tiger Woods. Hilarity ensues.

Now, back to the discussion at hand… this dude has been funny to me since his SNL days… I kinda wish his show on NBC would’ve gotten a better shot. Maybe the lil’ homey that played his son wouldn’t have ended up playing a wack ass Lil’ Cease in Notorious.
I thought the little kid from “Role Models” was his son. “The Tracy Morgan Show” was hilarious.

Yeah… the kid from Role Models was one of his kids as well on the show. He had two…. and Tamala Jones as his wife. I loved that show.

When I was young a teacher asked me “What’s the difference between the class clown and the class comedian?”

Dave Chappelle is the comedian. Tracy’s the clown…. Nothing wrong with either, but there’s nothing worse than an old clown.
Tracy was only funny as Hustle Man on Martin. I don’t check for dude at all with his almost “full retard” routine…a routine I’m certain isn’t one at all.
The Tracy Morgan show was funny; nbc should have given it a fair chance.
The are both brilliant. Chappelle has a nuanced delivery, whereas Tracy Morgan is brash and over the top. Chappelle’s strongest vehicle to mainstream success was his TV show, while Tracy uses his talk show appearances, that’s where he shines best.
As far as rappers go, I’ve always compared Morgan to Ghostface, raw as hell, with an amazing ability to illustrate the ethos of the hood with razor sharp observations.
