Remember back a few months ago when word surfaced that JD was in studio working on a remix to “Secret Garden”? Even with his penchant for remixes, the idea to dabble with such a classic song came totally out of left field. Well, it turns out that his remix will have a home on Quincy Jones’ upcoming remix project Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. With the “We Are The World” debacle still fresh on everyone’s minds, it’d be understandable to be apprehensive about the finished product. Akon, Ludacris, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Talib Kweli, BeBe Winans, Three 6 Mafia, Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch and Jamie Foxx have all signed on board for this project. Quincy explains how these artists got involved:
“Each artist picked a song that resonated with them for different reasons. I am honored that everyone wanted to be a part of this celebration of these songs. They all made them their own and knocked them out of the park.”
Here’s the video for the album’s first single “Strawberry Letter 23,” where Akon tries his hand at the Shuggie Otis song that Jones turned into a hit for The Brothers Johnson back in ’77.

ohhellno.
Leave the Brothers’ Johnson be. Ugh.
Dupri has made a career out of unoriginality.
Wish I would’ve thought of thinking of stuff somebody already thought of first… uh, second.
basura. is quincy going senile?
Bros. Johnson >
So Akon stopped fucking women on stage long enough to make a featured appearance?
Artists in general have a problem when it comes to leaving classics alone. It’s definitely worst in other genres though.
They might as well name this project Leave well enough alone. The Johnson Brothers should sue for fraud; this isnt Strawberry Letter 23. This is DingleBerry #1.
Shuggie Otis >>>>
“this isnt Strawberry Letter 23. This is DingleBerry #1″

affirmative.
I’m a Quincy Jones fan and have been since I got into music. I will reserve my judgement until after the entire playlist is dropped. Let’s be honest….Who does a good CD from beginning to end anymore anyway?
This shit is hard loll its a different song now. I don’t think it’s disrespect to the original.
i fucks with this.
BUT…a rap version w/o Akon on the verses, that was a little harder, would b out cold. Theys and main sample melody, along with that slick old school bass….man. Good shit.
The Shuggie Otis version was great….The Brothers Johnson was PERFECT
this version is “Straight Garbage”
Dupri has made a career out of unoriginality
good show for me ,thank you
I was reading your page and though I’d let you know that your blog template alignment is off. I considered it on both of my screens to substantiate it. It works with IE4, however not with Chrome.
