Mike Bigga aka Killer Mike – “Gangsta”

04.13.10 Written by Gotty™

Around here, you already know we’re skeptical of tired tracks called “Gangsta.” But when Killer Kill from Adamsville attaches his name, we’ll break out the slack cutters. Always one to liven up a subject, the artist now currently known as Mike Bigga channels a few of the many characters in the his cranium and immerses listeners into graphic details only a true high-brow hustler could comprehend. Hollywood Floss – “She A Dime”

04.13.10 Written by Gotty™

Floss is so countrified, he doesn’t even need verbs. Thankfully, he doesn’t use many while relying on similes, metaphors and adjectives to describe his version of the world’s perfect lady. The track is slated for his upcoming album, House of Dreams, but it’ll find it’s way to a few playlists well before then. Read the rest of this entry »

Lionel Messi & FC Barcelona As The Little Giants

04.13.10 Written by Devin Chanda

Any recent soccer coverage (especially from that of a non-football site) must make mention of Lionel Messi. Over the past month in particular, the play of the little Argentine has suggested that he could be the greatest soccer player ever—at 22, mind you. Maradona has even said so himself (though he says a lot of things).

Saturday evening brought the big showdown: Barcelona v. Madrid, Messi v. Ronaldo, La Liga title on the line at the Bernabéu. Anticlimactic, it was. Just over half an hour, Xavi chipped the ball over the Madrid backline, and Messi, with a faint touch, converted inches of space into a clear shot on goal. 1-0. Read the rest of this entry »

Asics Gel Lyte III Grey/White-Blue-Neon

04.13.10 Written by Gotty™

The winter has given time to fall back from sneaker-buying, freeing up money for other hobbies and pursuits. Now, it’s warming up and things are a-changing quickly. Bring on shorts, warm weather and white tees. The feet will be fully prepared with a colorway of Gel III’s like these, with nice shades of grey (or is that taupe), white, neon yellow and well-placed blue accents. The real selling point for me is the colored midsoles, which are ten times better for repelling dirt compared to the normal white midsoles that other recent Gel III GR’s have come with.

Available now @ Finishline. Use the code “SPRING10″ to save yourself $10 on the purchase. Read the rest of this entry »

Nightcap With Ty & Kory

04.12.10 Written by LC Weber

The Southern gentleman in his character was caught somewhere between shock and horror as I closed my eyes, leaned my head back and sang the chorus like I meant it. But the breezy SoCal version of himself fell in love. For just a moment.

Here we were stuck in two hours of traffic on a blistering summer day. Our patience had worn thin somewhere on Sunset, and we were starved for the BBQ and icy beers that awaited us in an even hotter part of the city. My hand splayed out the window to catch any movement of air. The heat sweltered from car roofs and hoods in early evening waves. The sun was on its seemingly endless descent from its height, with no relief for the weary. The cars, the traffic, the engines, the honks and all of it deadened the senses. My friend, this Southern gent, had gone quiet for the first time since I’d known him. There were no words to rectify the temperature in degrees or frustration. Read the rest of this entry »

BlackOwned C-Bone Feat. Big Boi – “Tell C-Bone” Video

04.12.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Ever since getting his label situation squared away, Chico Dusty has been a man possessed and intent for making up on lost time. After blessing B.o.B. with a verse on his first single, appearing alongside Miss Janelle and dropping his own lead single, ‘Twan returns to the hood with BlackOwned C-Bone for “Tell C-Bone.” This may be nostalgia setting in, but it seems like yesterday when C, Slimm Calhoun and T-Bo first popped up on “Gangsta Sh#t” off Stankonia. C also bodied Yung Joc’s “Dope Boy Magic” back in the day, too.

Moving along, Big borrows a line familiar to he and Bone for the hook on this in-studio visual. To avoid wasting your time with carefully thought out descriptions, however, just know this thing rides. It’s one of those tracks you’ll hear played in the hood during a cookout when everyone is chilling, eating good food and catching up on even better times. Some people on the grill, the kids playing basketball, old folks throwing back brews while trading war stories and off in the cut, blunts are being rolled in celebration of a perfect summer day. The old folks probably couldn’t make out what Bone and Big were saying, let alone care about the content. They’d just like the beat anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

Lucky Lefty Strikes Again

04.12.10 Written by MZ

It couldn’t have played out any better.  One of golf’s top players returns to form on one of its biggest stages after a year of personal issues weighed heavily on his game.  Charging up the leaderboard over the weekend with a flurry of eagles & birdies, to the adoration of a roaring crowd.  Insert Phil Mickelson for Tiger Woods and then you’ve got that story.

Lets be honest though, if this wasn’t Tiger’s coming home party we probably wouldn’t even be talking about this here.  And for his first tournament since last November, Tiger played surprisingly well after the long layoff.  In contention for the win yesterday, what did him in was a lack of rhythm in his swing that only playing with regularity will fix and uncharacteristic flashes of loss in composure that could either be from the ball not being in his total command or the weight of the weekend.

But Tiger didn’t give away the tournament (it was never his), it was up for grabs & Phil Mickelson seized the opportunity.  With a bogey free final round, he was at his best when it mattered the most.  In what will go down as his signature shot of the final round,  he smoked a shot on the 13th hole from between two trees off pine straw and laid it up on the green.  When the logical shot would’ve been to play it safe and try to save par, he went for it.  Narrowly missed on an eagle & ending up with a birdie.  After that, along with a string of bogeys by Tiger, the tournament was his.

And in the end the real winner was CBS.  Tiger remained in contention all the way through to keep ratings up & Phil’s win allowed the network to play up the devoted family man storyline.

J. Cole – “Ignorant Sh#t” Freestyle

04.12.10 Written by Gotty™

Something like a pimp cause I’m still with the ‘caine, a lil drug dealin’ reference what I can’t try, these aggins out here lyin, Why can’t I?

On a typical Monday, it’s slow motion and we can coast while preparing material for the rest of the week. Today has been an atypical Monday. The lil niglet from the ‘Ville went for his while on Tampa’s Wild 94.1FM, kicking a nice set of lines over Jay’s “Ignorant Shit.” Read the rest of this entry »

Rick Ross Feat. Ne-Yo – “Super High”

04.12.10 Written by Gotty™

The label and their associates started an email campaign for this song approximately two weeks ago, cranking it up to an email every day for the past five days (including Sunday). To say the least, I’m glad it’s here, over and done…until the next time around. In regular Rawse fashion, the beat – provided by DJ Clark Kent – is masterfully done. Ne-Yo’s presence wasn’t exactly necessary but it’s not a detracting factor. At the end of the day, it’s just another track. Read the rest of this entry »

What Do The Insane Clown Posse And Jesus Have In Common?

04.12.10 Written by Beware

They both perform miracles, of course.

I lose.

Here’s why.

I’ve spent over a decade of my life being equally astounded and disgusted by the unflinching following ICP has made for themselves across not only in my state and country, but the world. Now, these two inbred ignoramooses have finally plunged their shot of dumb deep enough into my skull that I have no choice but to relay their retardation to the rest of you. In the midst of more promotion for their new album, Bang Pow Bam, the group that’s “never seen a mile road south of 10″ has dropped the viral infection called “Miracles.” It’s gotten half a million YouTube plays in five days with views still pouring in.

It seems as though these two chicken-killing and rape-loving royal Juggalos, Shaggy 2 Dope and Silent Jay, have left Horrorcore alone for a moment to enlighten and further extend their Faygo-spraying fan base with this neurotic piece of visual nincompoop. Since, apparently, talking to those lying scientists only pisses off the posse, these face-painted clowns present us with their perplexing questions, asking doozies like “F#*in’ magnets…how do they work?” and touching on tough topics like “the Milky Way or f*#*in’ shooting stars” and “long-necked giraffes, pet cats and dogs.”

Laugh. Cry. Do whatever ever comes naturally and do it quickly. Because, as much as this song seems to have arisen from paint fumes, this C+ combination of a dope beat, crude – yet costly – video and overall blissful ignorance has given this veteran Insane Clown Posse their first bona fide crossover hit.

B.o.B Feat. Haley Williams of Paramore – “Airplanes”

04.12.10 Written by Gotty™

In a time when “superstars” are far and few between, every element of the machine is getting behind Bobby. MTV’s full-fledged support? Check, as he’s their PUSH (Play Until Someone Hears) artist of the week. Atlantic? Check, otherwise we’d be offering this for download instead of a stream. The early response to the album from those who’ve heard it? It’s sounding like all of the expectations will be met. So the setup is there. And as “Nothing On You” continues its mash on the charts, I would expect the Hayley Williams-assisted “Airplanes” to follow suit soon enough. So, yes, the stars are aligned for super to happen. Jadakiss – “All Falls Down”

04.12.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Jada’s “All Falls Down” is not to be confused with the Kanye track. When it’s all said and done, evaluating Jada’s career will be left up to the “experts” (i.e. everyone with an opinion). Maybe he’ll be a legend who never received his just due or maybe he’ll be someone who never truly tapped the potential he received with Biggie’s initial co-sign. Read the rest of this entry »

A Day In The Life Of DaVinci

04.12.10 Written by Corey Bloom

The Fillmore District in the heart of San Francisco was once a cultural mecca dubbed the “Harlem of the West” by the Jazz and Blue’s legends that frequented the area. Over the years much has changed, and although the region’s not completely unfamiliar across the U.S., the effects of gentrification have nearly erased its storied history.

DaVinci’s memories of the area he was born and raised in during the ’80s are stark in contrast to the present-day district. In his music he takes us to the comically dubbed “New Fillmore,” and discusses the changes he has seen in his lifetime and its influence on his art. We stop at one of the last bastions of the neighborhood and meet one of the few remaining pillars of the Fillmore. Though DaVinci no longer lives there, the place he used to call home can be summed up in one simple phrase; “Filmo, no mo.”

The future looks bright for this budding MC fresh off the release of his official debut The Day The Turf Stood Still.
