Avid as we are about Hip-Hop, most of us know Murda Mook strictly from butchering the battle circuit. Period. The vicious MC has gone neck and neck with viral veterans via his Smack battles with Jae Millz and Sirius Jones, but has not put out a single noteworthy song to capitalize on the buzz he created in turn. Since signing with Ruff Ryders last year, however, it seems as though the New Yorker may have realized error was in his ways.

The first leak off Mook’s new, Superstar Jay hosted mixtape Countdown 2 Murda, “Problem Going Back” finds the undeniable lyricist honing his skills specifically on three separate sixteens which are centered around a stuttered sampling from Jigga’s rendition of “The Ruler’s Back” for the hook.

It’s a good listen, but it seems Mr. Murda felt such a need to give the necessary detail to make an actual song – and not just another freestyle – the punchline rapper wasn’t able to hold back and ended up trying to fit too much background info into an unrefined four minutes.

Not so much a problem, but a real easy way to run out of material for your actual CD.
