When M.I.A. took a maternity leave from music, many seemed to forget about her and she’s sounding an alarm to let everyone know she’s back. Over the past few weeks, she’s began a surge to reclaim her spot, tossing a few Motlov’s in Lady Gaga’s direction for jacking her style and now releasing “Born Free.” Back with a bang, the track is punk around the edges with a lyrics that bring the noise. While it takes a spin or two to get with it, it’s good to hear a small riot to shake things up a bit in popular music.
M.I.A.’s slated to drop an album (still untitled at this point) on June 29th.

She did a lame thing by firing shots at Gaga. I guess I can understand how she feel, but calling her a blatant mimic? C’mon girl.
The song, however, is pretty good.
Can’t see any similarity between Lady Gaga and MIA myself, in fact I’d say they’re almost diametrically opposed to each other…oh well, you’ve got to generate publicity somehow, right?
Like the song though, hope she can keep this standard up throughout the album.

Lady Gaga was ripping her off, bigtime, until she got into her Europop phase, shes one of the biggest biters in pop music
like the song. hope the album brings that fire. but she got a little out of control w/ the lady gaga jabs. yes, she bit on the wale song but lady gaga is strictly a pop star and the majority of her music (and even her ensembles) are nothing like MIA. Gaga was a club kid for a while so she used to do the crazy wardrobe stuff a long time ago. nowhere but on that Wale song does she sound like MIA and that’s not even entirely her fault.
