I spend a lot of time feeling bad for Big Sean and all of his derailments. First, KiD CuDi happened, making Sean wait for all of 2009. Then “Getcha Sum” kind of didn’t happen like it should have. Neither did his big Mr. Hudson single. But that all seems to be moot as G.O.O.D. music’s prodigy is back with a new single featuring Mr. Drizzy Drake. Read the rest of this entry »
I surely hope there’s some sunshine over the weekend to accompany this beat, because Danny and KT have set it up nicely with this one. Read the rest of this entry »
Back with another installment of his quarterly series, Skillz took his confessional show on the road to NYC for part five. And who can blame him? As the epicenter of our beloved culture, the city that never sleeps has to be full of people wanting to clear their conscience. In an effort to provide the greatest catharsis possible Skillz targeted those who’ve had a considerable amount of contact with good ‘ol Lucifer over the years. Featuring hitmen past & present; Deric “D. Dot” Angelettie, Sean C, LV & Young Chris (thrown in for good measure) all seek the restorative powers from the VA journeyman.
Every time one of these come out, there’s always one story that stands a cut above the rest. This time that honor goes to D. Dot. Anytime you can combine Diddy, Ma$e, a hit record & a wager for publishing all in one tale, then your destined to win. Sean C’s also is pretty interesting… mainly due to the fact that it involves one the other participants, which makes for nice ‘lil double whammy.
Credit has to be given to Skillz for keeping this series going. Although he’s not flooding the block with new ones in frequent fashion, whenever one does appear, it’s always well worth the time to go through the whole video.
4th Ward should be proud as Pill gets a MySpace premiere for “Ok Denn.” To the average denizen of the ‘net, that sounds past tense but the site is still a heavy marketing tool for artists. And even if you didn’t like it, there’s a gang of street vultures in the video who’ll come to your door and make you agree in their favor. Read the rest of this entry »
“Gimmie ya BET top ten, make’em my main course/And this ain’t designed to sell — this designed to give you sickle cell & burn in h*ll…”
Rassy fires off a warning shot while preparing for his upcoming A.D.I.D.A.S. project with DJ Rhettmatic. Backed by a triumphant horn section & Rhett’s scratched in vocal samples, “Release Yourself” is three minutes of West Coast mic domination with just enough bounce included for involuntary head nodding.
If you dig it, scoop it up now because word on the e-street is this won’t actually be on A.D.I.D.A.S.

How do you get railed by characters you created? Not sure but Aaron McGruder ends of up on the receiving end of a profane rant by Stinkmeaner for taking too long to bring back The Boondocks.
Catfish Billy drops off “working class music” for an upcoming mixtape hosted DJ Jelly and DJ Hotsauce. Wit and wordplay over a plink-plink piano-heavy backdrop = a freewheeling good listen. Read the rest of this entry »
Since they directed this clip for Boosie, I think Motion Family’s synopsis will better convey the story behind the release of this clip.
“This is one of the three videos (“Mind Of A Maniac,” “Brothers Keeper“) we shot back in September 2009 during a weekend trip to Baton Rouge. After 4 hours of shooting we had to cut it short because of a meeting Boosie had with his lawyers and never got a chance to finish filming. When his best friend Bleek passed away April 1, 2010 we were inspired to revisit this footage because of his heavy presence in the video and come up with something in his memory. Per Boosie’s request, we are releasing this unofficial video.”
Pretty remarkable week for rap music huh? New songs from several noteworthy artists and now we can add Jay’s name to this week’s ledger. Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve had Lemony Snicket’s Series Of Unfortunate Events one after another since last Friday, slowing down the processing time that would normally be associated with a show recap. I’m talking car accidents and death (separate incidents), then dealing with the fallout from from both. Still, the footage of Spitta’s performance @ PhatKaps deserved its space and shine, instead of drifting away into the depths of YouTube. And since the internet don’t stop, neither shall I. Songs named “Pressure” or “Struggle” or “Hard Times Pause” are generally all the same: big whinefests about how it’s so difficult making songs for adoring fans and scrotehungry groupies. It really makes me want to bust out the violin and feel sorry for these poor guys. It really does.
Stalley, though, decides to take the inspirational approach and make an uplifting song about perseverance. Read the rest of this entry »
Yep. It’s official. It’ll be another 50 years before the South concedes in full from the Civil War. In an advertisement that set back every American (living, dead and fictional) back to the days when armed robbery was conducted with a musket, the Governor hopeful of Alabamy, Tim “First Name, First Name” James vows to make Greenville a safer environment for all its inhabitants. Hopefully you didn’t forget about Mally because he didn’t forget about the microphone. It’s becoming too convenient not to rap nowadays but the #1 MN draft pick is on his grizz with these nouns, verbs and literary bars. The wordplay is impeccable as he transcribes the parables of his pen through his vocal distinction on a random freebie for you to garner inspiration from. Read the rest of this entry »
