Celebrating The Black Irish!

By Jason H. / 03.17.10

Black Irish? The term seems odd to some people but on St. Patrick’s Day why not convince skeptics otherwise? Case in point, Phil Lynott.

If you never heard of the frontman to the band Thin Lizzy, you probably heard their signature hit, “The Boys Are Back In Town.” This is the same song blasted at sporting events and now raped for ads and movie scores. But did you know the dude strumming the bass and wailing out the words was an Irish Black guy? Lynott is considered one of the greatest Rock musicians from the emerald Isle (Fuck Bono). To top it off, a bronze statue was made in his honor & it’s now “bubbling” in Dublin.

So while you’re rocking your Larry Bird Celtics jersey drinking a green beer, here’s an alternative track on your St. Paddy’s Day playlist. You know there are other joints to bump besides House of Pain’s “Jump Around” (and that better be the Pete Rock remix, son!).
