What Black Friday is to retail stores, April 20th is for gas stations. Throughout this hazy day, millions of happy, hungry and relaxed Americans frequent these establishments for three simple yet highly important reasons.
1. To buy something to drink, because cotton-mouth is a bitch.
2. To buy munchies and what better place to find munchies than at a gas station?
3. To buy more Dutch’s, Swisher’s or rolling papers because there’s still more chronic to capitalize on.
One place you’re always sure to find Mary Jane creeping around is in the rocky world of Hip-Hop, where it’s 4:20 year round. In their upcoming issue, The Source has an article called “Smoke Signals” examining the love affair with weed and the rising stoner population. Curren$y and Wiz Khalfia, two frequent flyers themselves, offer insight to the ups and downs of being a visibly known weed smoker and Wiz even reminisces on the first time he smoked. To be honest with you, I’m shocked dude even remembered. Also, be sure to pay attention as they give a history lesson on marijuana and the fight to legalize it America. Which leads me to my next point. Gay marriage is getting legalized slowly but surely. So, at some point, you better believe weed will too.
However the best part about the entire article? Cheech and Chong – perhaps the two men Method Man and Redman owe their entire style to – make a pro-pot appearance as well. But I’m not here to spoil the whole thing for you. It’s better if you experience it yourself. Read this (click to enlarge) and prepare to get lifted as the countdown for America’s most notorious “holiday” sparks now.
Read the article in full when the issue hits newstands nationwide on March 23rd.

MI NAH STOP BUN MY GANJA!!! Ahhh yeeeah, Friday is here!!! Time for Chocolate Philly/Sess & Hydro blunts!!! If your in Toronto, link me & let’s get hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!!!
if alcohol is legal i dont understand how weed isnt. Far less damaging to mind, body, and soul than alcohol. Its sad in a country which was founded upon people controlling who is in the gov’t and what the gov’t can and cannot do; the people are still told what they can and cannot put into their bodies. Drug USE is a victimless crime, theretofore, not a crime at all. I have had 4 members of my family (the parts of it that still keep in contact) who have died or had their and their families lives completely ruined due to alcohol abuse. That same count is zero for weed. Although because of the laws and the facist state (maryland) i live in I refuse to acknowledge the ratio of pot smokers to drinkers in my family.
I meant “You’re”, damn it! I’m too focused on the weed right now!
we dont smoke to get low…… we smoke to get high… were not getting fucked down…. u get the point
i wish these rich conservative types smoked weed rather than drank. Ben Franklin was fond of weed. Just got done with his autobiography. If one of the founding fathers liked it it must be good… oh wait.. hmmm. lemme re think that
the best part of living in LA is instead of going to the earlier mentioned gas station to cop my smoking supplies, i just cruise to the weed store. whaaaat a country
Buds forever! It will be legal soon enough, but I am kind of scared of legalization to be honest. I want knowledgeable growers controlling my crop, not the government. Decriminalization seems like the way to go. Friends don’t let friends smoke beasters!

The government is technically not interested in legalizing the cannibus because they are already profiting off it in the form of mass incarceration, specifically of young black males for minor possession charges. While African Americans as a whole only make up about 13% of the population of this country we are GROSSLY misrepresented in the prison system, making up approximately over 50% of incarcerates. The majority of which are not offenders of violent crimes, but instead are locked up doing 5 years plus due to minor possession offenses solidified by the infamous three strikes you’re out law. This system, the Prison Industrial Complex, is Amerikkka’s “new” slavery, and this new slavery, is still counting on its main supply source- young.black.males.
The Prison Corporation of America which trades on Wall Street is literally counting on YOU to screw up so they can incarcerate you and put you to work. Most of the major corporations are lined up to take advantage of this new cheap labor force which has proven to be highly profitable. The system also makes it beneficial for our lovely local law enforcement to seek you out with the hope that you do have some weed on you because districts get increased federal funding not for the quality of arrests, ie drug kingpins etc, but for the sheer volume of arrests. The system also awards law enforcement by allowing them to seize all property associated in a drug arrest and then allowing them to auction these items off for cash, or use seizures of cash for their own benefit. So while we talk about legalizing the sensei, understand that their are powerful forces at work that are not interested in legalizing it because it affords them the opportunity to continue to create a new slave labor force in conjunction with privatized industry that is more profitable than the legalization of marijuana. Not to mention, another great way to eliminate young men of color from society. Which historically in this society has always been a plus. Happy 4/20.
500k.. i always see your posts on hurr. i’m in t.o, bout to smoke some kush/white widow and get my study onnn.
^^damn that is depressing, the truth usually is though. Time to roll up and feel better! Thank you Humboldt County, you have been a great help to the quality of my daily life!

@sfgiants2001 it is .. but I just wanted to put some facts out there. For me, I feel smoking is inherently IN me being a Jamaican Brit/American(it’s complicated) lol but the fact remains that there are inherent risks out there and there is a system out there that is preying on young men of color, specifically black men, and its using minor drug possession as a means of eliminating them from society and as profitable financial gain for privatized industry. Periodicals such as the Source should highlight these very real social issues because they speak to the very people that this corrupt system is targeting. I would dare to say that it is their social responsibility to do so because The Source themselves, reap profits from this targeted readership. The article within itself was not bad, they just missed an opportunity to inform people who may not even be aware of this very real issue otherwise. Instead, we just get more talk about legalization and people reminiscing on when they smoked their first blunt?
currensy is MURDERING that roach… let that shit RIP my dude!
@ Frqncy: You got a White Widow link???!!! Holla at ya ninja 500K, we need to talk ASAP!!!
Speaking of weed. Did that smoke off with Snoop, B-Real, and Juelz Santana ever go off? Or was that all just smoke being puffed out?
^ T from the 617
Hahaha I know it just looks like hes smokin his fingers
@soulaquarian
I also wish people were more informed about the history of marijuana prohibition, how racist/classist the propaganda campaigns were from the govt to fool the general public into believing hundreds of false facts, thus protecting the then captains of industry and filling their pockets. Cannabis is such a useful plant, if the variety of use was publicized more and it was legal to do so, think of all the jobs/new industries that could be created (in addition to more positives with your stated issues).
At least we’re starting to head in the right direction. As the younger generations get older and the public mind state on the subject changes, our laws will change too.
Think Im supposed to be doing a show with Joe Scudda in Raleigh on that holiest of holidays. I never smoke before I perform because I always forget shit but on 4/20… well theres always freestyling.
I remember the first time I smoked weed. I was in 6th grade. It was me & my best friend in my garage. We found my dad’s stash and went in. After that, we went in the house and smashed pizza. I moved across town and we lost touch. Last I heard my homey was strung out on meth a few years ago and got sent to boot camp in Montana.
416 always smokin’. in T.O. we ridin’ high.
“The region of China where the tomb is located, Xinjiang, is considered an original source of many cannabis strains worldwide.”
