The Smoking Section is startin’ to become more dissapointin’ than a broken erection (*kanye shrug*). Haven’t seen a good post since Epic Beard Man (and maybe the Cleveland Steamroller), come on now!
I gotta back Barry a little bit on this one. You guys dropped way fresher content when I first started reading last spring than you do now.
Writing positions are always open.
^
Thank you, it ain’t hate either. I used to love this site and would direct people here all the time, but now? I haven’t seen any of the “freshness” just a bunch of reporting and copying and pasting. Seems like y’all are fallin’ off a bit. There’s a reason if you look back at the last five pages none of the comments reach over 30 and only about four reach over 20 . . .
That thank you was to Kellen.
And man Gotty I’d love a writing position! I have a great piece (s) (and at least what I think is controversial or “great”) that I’d love to share. Shit, you let me email to you as a “try-out” draft and I’d be more than skippy . . .
Email is – GreenGang73@aol.com (do the right thing, gotty. let my voice errr words . . . be heard)
“I haven’t seen any of the “freshness” just a bunch of reporting and copying and pasting.”
That’s what I meant.
And Gotti, I hit TSS with an email the day that Wu vs. Beatles mix dropped, and it took y’all two weeks to post on it. If you folks had shown any interest in it, I would have gladly given you the 300 word review I ended up writing for a different site.
As for writing positions, I’m always game. And I can guarantee you that you’ll get all the content you can handle from me.
And Gotti, I hit TSS with an email the day that Wu vs. Beatles mix dropped, and it took y’all two weeks to post on it.
==============
And do you know why?
Because we actually listen to the music (marinate on that). Then, we keep listening, sit back, ride around with it, listen to it on the way to work, clean house w/it, etc. Then when schedules permit, we sit down and write on it.
I have multiple hats I rock during a day. Sometimes posting the latest mp3 falls down the list of priorities lol.
The same thing I tell labels, artists, I say here.
I don’t work for none of you motherfuckers lol.
I write what I like, when I like. Hence, that’s why you’ll catch randomness and maybe one mention of a song from me. I’m still enjoying the same song from 3 days ago, and happy with it.
But feel free to send over your submissions. Be patient for replies. And don’t send no fuckin’ thesis paper. Show something that could be posted now, not a “this is my one chance to say everything i ever wanted to say” essay.
My last comment: If it’s stale, you may be skipping a few posts lol.
And my name is Gotty, not Gotti.

Gotty, where would I send in a submission? (nothing long, very concise w/it).

While we’re here, I’m open to anyone able to keep a discourse on music aside of rap as well. To me, there’s so much good going on in other genres that deserves as much coverage as we tend to see dedicated to Hip-Hop. Or, if you have a niche that you think will fit and you can help cultivate, holler. Fashion, gadgets, whatever. Holler.
Like he said, we’re always looking for writers…
However.
It is a rare occurence when we have someone who can keep up with the daily grind as well as have the skills to contribute regularly. And as the managing editor, it will mostly be me editing the posts that are turned in and both of you are already giving me indications that it’s more bark than bite.
“Shit, you let me email to you as a “try-out” draft”
or
“Gotti”
I mean you’re on the site all the time and don’t even know the head honcho’s name??? I’m sure that XXL piece isn’t “5 pages back” and it has more than 30 comments and as for “fresh content,” I don’t see these iPod interviews anywhere else and that Spider-Man piece is all over Digg.
Most importantly, sharing new music is also an integral part of this site’s operations, such as this post that gives you Donny Goines’ new project. Believe it or not, it takes more than “copying & pasting” to bring content like this on the regular.
No hate. Just saying.
More bark than bite? You do sound like you’re “hating” because you don’t even know me or this other person yet you’re assuming it’s nothing more than idle talk. Right . . . someone let me send in a “draft” and give me the email or what have you to send it at so I can prove what the passion I have. Actions will speak louder than words (can that even work for internet world?)
i think what he’s asserting is this.
Everybody “wants” to write.
They write for two weeks. They go extra hard.
Then they’re out of ideas lmao.
True story, no bs.
Some folks last longer, hitting a wall after 3-6 mths. But the wall comes, believe that.
KBarnett – I checked your site. Looks good, diverse, etc. But i also see you complaining about homework, no updates for days @ a time, etc. Just saying.
Thank you, Gotty.
Oh, I’m sure it does and I can’t guarantee superior longevity. But, what I can guarantee (minus not being up to par on grammar rules) is some creative/new ideas that I feel should be heard because lately with people writing about musical opinions it seems like too much of “the same old”, and where it’s only a couple group of thoughts nothing new. When I send in my piece to you (Gotty) I hope I show you what I’m talking about.
Thanks Gotty for the opportunity. Didn’t mean any disrespect on the mispelling; it was a stupid mistake. Apologies. Same to TC. I’ve dug TSS since I came across it, and you guys do keep shit real nice.
Anybody listening to this shit?! lol
Donny’s coming with it on this tape.. Good shit Mr. Goines..
that was an interesting convo. I clicked on it to see some fresh Rocksmith clothes, cause theyre dope. That wasnt the case as i shouldve known. Donny Goines is dope but I have to be really interested to download a whole tape. TSS is still stayin real fresh on a good range of subjects in my opinion. I used to email blogs with news about hip hop that i could get but they missed, DX had wrong info about the Gnarls Barkley album that I had straight from the label, but you are one email in a sea so they dont listen. Lot of other stuff too. My only complaint is how long it took to post about Guru. Other than that good work TSS. Problem with Blogs is the same problem with rap, anyone can do it, but few can do it right.

==================
I appreciate the positive comments but…nvm. I wasn’t aware there was a timeframe that you “had” to post things in.
Also, this may be a surprise, but most blogs can’t cover everything that comes thru their inbox…nor do they have an interest to. We have a pretty extensive Crew. Yet none of them really gives a rat’s ass about the latest song by certain artists who shall remain nameless lol.
At the end of the day, if you’ve got something you want to discuss, enjoy it in the comments. Or get a blog lol.
Pooch – i don’t know what the hell i just read lol.
Has anyone sat in and observed a conversation that started out a remark that was dropped in what is usually a suggestion or comment box. Except the manager was right there and decided to read the comment with the person who wrote it right there, which was ackward. And then the owner provided some solid perspective on what really goes on behind the scenes and why things are the way they are.
And then we end up watching an interview for a job that they aren’t going to end up keeping or treating seriously.
I believe that I just have.
Pooch
