Charlie Hustle stays Revenue Retrievin’ with “You Can’t Stop The Boss,” a sky-high toast to the lifestyles of the rich and pimpinist, featuring fellow hip-hop Hall of Famers Too $hort and The Boss Dogg Snoop. Together, this conglomerate of California kingpins coasts over grown-up, jazzy vibes provided by the long-lost Jazze Pha AKA Jazze Phinzel IV. It’s pretty much a no brainer.
Just download the dope and don’t forget to support E-Feezy when he drops both Revenue Retrievin’: Day Shift and Revenue Retrievin’: Night Shift next Tuesday.

I’ve always had a hard time pinning down San Francisco’s Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Are the high voltage rock-n-rollas, or something completely different? Over the 13 songs that compose their latest album, Beat the Devil’s Tattoo, they don’t make my distinction any easier; there’s a bit of everything, from Verve-tinged rockers to dirge-like Nine Inch Nails. Folksy ballads to blues breakers. But then again, this should be considered a good thing. It’s hard to deny that most mainstream rock has become formulaic, so I’m always jacked to hear a band cohesively channeling a variety of influences. They pull it off well. While meeting and greeting the grieving Haitian nation this week with Bill Clinton, the highest ranking hillbilly, George W. Bush himself, had the nerve to noticeably get disgusted by shaking a native man’s hand and proceeded to indiscriminately wipe the grodiness onto the back of Bubba’s shirt, Stank Palm style. Cameras visible. No hesitation, no shame. Read the rest of this entry »
By Friday, things here are a tale of two cities. On the surface, it’s a free-for-all. We’ve unofficially have dubbed the day “fresh music Fridays” and the main demonstration is to filter through the two scoops of mp3s that hit our inboxes during the week. Behind the scenes, things slow down to a crawl and we recuperate, recharging our Fresh. While things are still going on in the present, we’ve already moved on to plotting and planning for the next week. Therefore, we leave the action in your hands in the comments section by default. As they drain the last bit of energy left in this song, Diamond, Trina & Eve join Luda for the remix video of “My Chick.” I’ll take eye candy for $80, Alex. Diamond, you’ve come a long way since the Crime Mob days baby. Read the rest of this entry »
Aside from linking up with the Crew in Austin, my motivating factor for a return trip was to link up with Bobby Ray, Playboy Tre & B. Rich. Going in totally blind last year, we alternated between them & Dan Solo’s crew for the weekend. It was almost like having a tour guide because all we had to do was show up & we were in like Flynn. So when TC said they were in Acapulco, I was slightly disappointed, but happy for B.o.B.’s continued ascension on a mainstream level.
Last time we got an update from Tre on the road they were dealing with one of the jankiest car rental outfits in the country. Luckily, they made it a little further along in the process this time around before problems arrive. With that being said, I’ll let Tre take it from here.
Here’s the reason they were even down there in the first place. B.o.B. was performing at MTV’s Spring Break, which has always turned out some pretty memorable performances.
The Left Coast Dom finally let’s loose his long-awaited From The Westside… mixtape. If you weren’t waiting, well, download it and see why others were. While you won’t hear his name ringin’ bells in magazines and lists, he’s been one of the more consistent & improving emcees to emerge on the scene. Read the rest of this entry »
Depending who you ask, Eazy-E is either one of Hip-Hop’s greatest pioneers or one of its greediest figures. For as many success stories that surround him, like bringing the world Bone Thugs N Harmony, the negative connotations, like allegedly being the reason N.W.A. split, run rampant.
I never knew the guy, just the urban legends surrounding him. Being that the man unfortunately can’t be here to defend himself, I won’t focus on the negative aspects. There’s enough negative B.S. going on in the world today anyway. When Eric Wright passed away 15 years ago today, I barely knew who he was. I was only nine. Over the years though, I’ve gotten to know the artist through his music, old interviews, documentaries and everything in between.
One thing I can say is this – he helped set one of the greatest trends of all time. Jay had the button up. Cam had the “all-pink-everything” movement. Pharrell/Clipse had B.A.P.E. But Eazy’s (and Cube’s) White Sox/Raiders fitted + black sunglasses + flannel look was the reason I wanted to move to Cali. Then I realized being light skin wouldn’t have been good for my campaign. I probably would’ve gotten taken as serious as Braxton from “The Jamie Foxx Show” when he appeared on “Original Gangstas.” Us light skin brothers didn’t recover from that until Barack showed up.
I guess what I’m really trying to say is, take a minute out and remember a legend. As the years go by and the generations pass, it’ll be harder and harder to remember people of E’s stature. That’s just a product of the game though. Time distances you from everything. To assist you with the commemoration, run back through these clips and remember when the jheri curl was a testament to your gangsta and South Central Los Angeles was America’s #1 war zone.

I include this video for two reasons. One, I still find this to be one of the better, more entertaining and controversial clips of the ’90s. Nothing will ever top the 1995 Source Awards, but this is knocking on the door, at least in the ignorance category. And two, “Damn, E, they tried to fade you on ‘Dre Day’/But ‘Dre Day’ only make Eazy’s payday/All of a sudden Dr. Dre is a ‘G-Thang’/But on his old album cover, he was a she-thang…” is one of the best diss lines of all time. Dre is my dude, but that’s just keeping it 100. Plus, how many rappers will ever be allowed to perform a diss song on national TV?
Following your heart’s desire is probably one of the most admirable things you could possibly do with your life. Everybody has dreams, but few follow them to the fullest extent. For this reason, Mally’s song “On The Way Up” is an inspiring one. He truly is following what he feels is the path he is destined to walk, and if he keeps making songs like this one, I would have to agree with that decision.
I’m not sure if soul is a measurable attribute, but if so, the vocal sample lying underneath Mally’s lyricism is at full capacity. With a subtle kick-snare pattern and a horn section that moves the beat along blissfully, Mydus’ production projects a feeling of serenity that matches Mally’s lyrics of contentment wonderfully. Hopefully, the duo’s chemistry will maintain solid through their collaborative effort entitled The Quality Of Mind, which is still without a solid release date, but in the process of being constructed.

Even those of us strung out in Texas in the midst of deafening Hip-Hop managed to keep one eye on The Tourney last weekend. And for hoops fans, it couldn’t have gone better. Comebacks, overtimes, buzzer beaters and a few mammoth upsets made for a wild first two rounds. Today the Madness continues. To adequately prepare you for another weekend of your ass parked on the couch, the TSS Crew pick the Elite 8 and preview the match-ups. Read the rest of this entry »
I remember thinking how inspiring it must’ve been for Mayer Hawthorne when I saw the humbled Ann Arbor crooner being heralded by Bigg Snoop Dogg about six months back, before he’d really hit Jimmy Kimmel status. The Doggfather, of all people, went out of his way to find the unassuming singer and go as far as to saying he wanted to do work, making him the first A-List rapper to openly try and enlist Hawthorne’s soulful services for a big-league hook. The images captured here, all from Cudi’s tour, are nothing short of astounding and Jason Goldwatch and the Decon Creative Group deserve a huge round of applause for pulling it all together. But I’m a little worried regarding what Cudi’s going to rap about next time around. Because if this is his life, it’s not looking that bad @ all. Matter of fact, I’m not even a Star Wars kid but I’ll be danged if I don’t want one of those light sabers just to have around the house. Read the rest of this entry »
