Justin Bieber’s #1 Fan, Lil Duval

03.15.10 Written by J. Tinsley

It may sound crazy, but Twitter lives by its own set of rules. Here’s two:

1. Lil Duval (@LilDuval) says what he wants, when he wants and how he wants. And quite often, it’s what the rest of us are thinking/have thought anyway.

2. Justin Bieber (@JustinBieber) has the most obsessed fans by far. So much so that the lil’ guy is always a trending topic and the reason hundreds of fan pages are floating around.

Associating the two may not seem logical, but for this clip, the combination was perfect. Turns out the Grand Hustle court jester is a “diehard” fan who uses Bieber’s latest tune for the soundtrack of his life. Ok, that’s a stretch, but the clip is damn sure entertaining. I’m still trying to figure out what’s funnier: the fact that dude actually knows the lyrics or the phone conversation which starts around the 1:37 mark.

Jola – “She Say” Video

03.15.10 Written by Gotty™

Dear Jermaine Dupri,

Please don’t taint Jola’s music or personality. Let him continue doing what he’s doing, which is providing weekend theme music for those “raised on YouTube…AC/DC, John Mayer and Coldplay.” Jermaine, all we need you to do is provide the capital and supportive assets (read: big-breasted white women for the videos) that the kid may need to make it. Let him coast his “I’m a goofy, Black suburban guy” lane as far as it’ll take him. If Asher can score a deal off rehashing Beastie Boys party themes, I’ll root for Jola just for the hell of it. “I Know I Can”

03.15.10 Written by TC

It’s kind of hard to believe after over ten-some odd albums of dropping knowledge, euphemisms and common sense, Nasir Jones has never received his high school diploma, or even GED for that matter. Then again, we do live in a capitalistic society and Esco has been cashing salary-sized checks since he was 21-years-old. Read the rest of this entry »

G.O.O.D. Music, Nah Right & Universal Motown Present Consequence – Movies On Demand

03.15.10 Written by TC

Conceptually, this looks way too elaborate to be given away for free, but Dexter is a trooper and he isn’t so far removed that he doesn’t understand you have to give a little to get a lot in today’s game. Pay-per-view or not, tell the people it’s showtime as Cons The Don and premium channel Nah Right link up with the big starz including Rick Ross, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and Kanye West’s entire G.O.O.D. Music cartel. Read the rest of this entry »

Donwill & Von Pea – “Cheesesteak”

03.15.10 Written by TC

There’s a significant bit of irony in this new track submitted by 66% of Tanya Morgan. Cheesesteaks are generally greasy, unhealthy and full of unnecessary addititves. Donwill and Von Pea’s rapping is lean, purified and full of metaphorical nutrients to put a jolt into your listening experience. Let Von Pea tell it, this could be the start of something…well…delectable. Read the rest of this entry »

Manny Pacquiao Strikes Again!

03.15.10 Written by Jason H.

If you didn’t catch the Pacquiao-Clottey fight Saturday night, don’t sweat it – you didn’t miss anything. This snoozefest of a match was further proof that the fight that should have went down has to be inked. I bet I wasn’t the only one repeating in my head, “It should have been Mayweather in there” but alas, all we got was Pac-Man again systematically tearing down another fighter for his 12th straight win. The Text Message Movie Ticket

03.15.10 Written by TC

Since the year is 2010, it’s time we started acting like it, right? Fandango seems to think so and as a direct result, they whipped up one of the coolest (and convenient) phone applications of all-time.

Jagged Edge – “Still My Girl”

03.15.10 Written by Beware

Remember Jagged Edge? You don’t? Oh, well, they were the ones wouldn’t stop nagging Nelly about that damn party and turned a Run DMC layup into an overwhelming slam dunk single, then fell of the face of the earth like a sloshed Chris Columbus.

Anyways, they’re back, and the time off proved useful. Read the rest of this entry »

Lloyd Banks Feat. Juelz Santana – “Beamer, Benz Or Bentley” Video

03.15.10 Written by J. Tinsley

It’s good to see Banks is taking advantage of this single. While it’s not necessarily my favorite song in the world, I’ll admit it is catchy and Juelz does his thing with his guest slot. Plus, you know you’ve got a pretty hot record (at least in NY) when your colleagues begin jumping on your record and adding their own three item wishlist. Read the rest of this entry »

Video: Melanie Fiona’s Soundcheck Preview

03.15.10 Written by Gotty™

I think it’s safe to say Melanie Fiona has officially made it. As if The Bridge’s critical and commercial success weren’t convincing enough or opening nightly for Alicia Keys’ Freedom Tour weren’t indication enough, she’s now been asked to sit down for a Soundcheck interview, a seat reserved for pop princesses, musical powerhouses and creative geniuses. In this teaser clip, Ms. Fiona speaks briefly on the importance of having fan support and interacting with them as well as citing a few of her musical influences. Read the rest of this entry »

The Smoking Section & Trackstar The DJ Present From Marcy To Madison St. (Jay-Z Vs. Lupe Fiasco)

03.15.10 Written by Gotty™

From Marcy to Madison Square Street…”

It seems like Trackstar can’t get enough of these conceptual mixes, but he has an uncanny knack and an inordinate amount of time to pull them together as well as the skills necessary to make them entertaining. For Marcy To Madison St., our favorite DJ brings together the works of Jay-Z and Lupe Fiasco, two artists whose careers don’t seem linked until Track uncovers the clues like a master sleuth. What we end up with is another mix whose entertainment value is on par with its predecessor in the series and 50+ minutes of auditory pleasure. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Bigga – “Don’t F#ck Wit U”

03.15.10 Written by Gotty™

Don’t snitch ain’t a t-shirt, it’s a principle…”

When I listen to Mike’s recent output, I’ve picked up on a few things.

1. He’s not in a playing mood. There are no radio friendly vibes to be found, no singalong choruses or things of that nature. Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “We Ain’t Friends”

03.14.10 Written by Gotty™

I already know I’m in the minority regarding Nature, For All Seasons and, probably, this track. The QB emcee was the victim of a de facto curse once he mysteriously replaced Cormega in The Firm. Enh, I still bought his debut and find myself spinnin’ it on the iPod here and there when I want to cool out.

Between Lord Jamar’s syncopated drums that knock and Nature’s flow that seems to steamroll over the beat, listening to “We Ain’t Friends” has always been the equivalent of audio logrolling with two seeming opposites trying to gain an advantage. By the conclusion, the power struggle ends in a draw…but I always feel like I ended up the benefactor. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lonely Island – “Boombox” Video

03.14.10 Written by Beware

Through the newest visual from their debut album, Incredibad, Andy Samberg and his comedic troop of Lonely Islanders show how a single “Boombox” can change the world. And how gross old people making out can be.

I’m sorry. While “Run This Town” was indeed worthy, these guys are so far outside the box they really deserved a Grammy.
