Probably about three weeks ago, the name “Laws” kept appearing on my Twitter timeline as a new artist to look out for. At the time, I didn’t invest much interest into finding out who it was. One thing leads to another and I come across his mixtape and figured giving a listen couldn’t hurt. If nothing else, only thing I’d be losing was time and an insignificant amount of computer memory.
First thing I noticed before I downloaded 4:57 were the co-signs. Having Don Cannon, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, 9th Wonder and DJ Khalil on your project is at least enough to land you a listen. By the time I got through the entire tape, one thing was for certain. The Floridian by way of Brazil definitely has a sound all his own. The instrumentation matches his style. His energetic (and different) flow has that sound which could crossover if played out correctly.
Off my first few listens, my personal standout is the 9th Wonder produced, “Shining.” It’s just one of those tracks you get lost in. Better yet, one of those tracks which could serve as the backdrop to a summertime cookout. I would call it smooth, but I don’t even think that does it proper justice. All in all, it’s an enjoyable product. Definitely worth the price of admission your time seeing that it’s free and everything. Who knows, Laws may be someone we want to place on our radars. Consider this my late pass.

This is a dope mixtape; not a weak track on it.
This shit goes, his mixtape he had where hes like a Jedi on the cover was sick too
Hold you down might be one of the songs of the year, no over-hype
I’m still stuck on “Shining.” That shit is so smooth for some reason.
Hold you down stays on repeat.
I’ve been meaning to download this for the longest. Heard nothing but good things about Laws.
