Since the year is 2010, it’s time we started acting like it, right? Fandango seems to think so and as a direct result, they whipped up one of the coolest (and convenient) phone applications of all-time.
The mobile movie ticket.
While it’s common knowledge you can buy tickets before you even leave the house, there’s still the whole waiting in line factor–something that can still be tad bit bothersome even with the majority of moviegoers still purchasing tickets at the booth. With Fandango’s service, after your sweetie convinces you to see that new rom-com, it will shoot the digital barcode straight to your phone so you won’t miss a beat.
Currently in the beta stage, Fandango has apps available for the iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm Pre and Android only and the following theaters are the only ones playing along.
New York: City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3, Angelika Film Center, East 86th Street Cinemas, Village East Cinema, Beekman Theatre, The Paris Theatre.
New Jersey: Manville 12 Plex.
Houston: Angelika Film Center.
Dallas/Plano: Angelika Dallas; Angelika Plano.
San Diego: La Mesa Grossmont Center, Clairemont Town Square Stadium.
Bakersfield: Valley Plaza 16.
Sonoma County: Rohnert Park 16.
Hawaii: Ward Stadium, Kahala Theater, Kapolei 16, Mililani Stadium.
But with a little word of mouth, expect this to be the new wave of the future. At this rate, you’ll be showing your kids ticket stubs and calling them “antiques.”

“Rom-com”??? LMAO!!! I guess the only major benefit as a result of this would be reduced paper waste. What if your phone dies at the theatre though???
Girl: Got the tickets babe?
Guy: Yeah shorty, they’re on my Blackber…SHIT!!!
Girl: What!?
Guy: My damn phone died! Looks like we’re going to have to go & hit up the Fleamarket & cop the bootleg.
What no LA locations, wtf. Other than NY this has to have the greatest concentration of mobile users, and high end users with the ability to rock this app on their phones. Nexus 1 right here
nice an app available for blackberry as well. that BB app store sucks, Im getting android next unless iPhone makes official plans to come out on Verizon by beginning of 2011. Then I even still might get android. Google is going to take over the world.
they’ve had this type of scan code over in Japan for a long time for a variety of applications.
