When in reality, someone had to take Wayne’s spot in the rotation during his bid. It only makes sense; they’ve both garnered enough buzz to carry an issue catering to the same fan base as their detained Martian leader.
And if for some reason they did strong arm XXL into this cover, shame on them for caving in. I know the magazine industry is a sinking ship, but have some balls, shit. They decline a cover or accolade, ignore them. In their mind they may have deserved to be on last year’s list, but in all honesty what were they doing back in October of 2008? So Far Gone was a twinkle in Drake’s eye & Nicki was just emerging from the Smack DVD circuit. It just sets a bad precedent for down the line.
Enjoy this moment you two, because now is the time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Because hype deflates just as fast, if not faster than it inflates.

Both of their singles are wack. That’s my honest opinion. Massive Attack is unbearable and Over is decent but definitely weak and underwhelming after he was all in interviews talking about how great it was. I’m just hoping their albums aren’t anything like the Young Money album because if so they are going to wish they were on the other cover.

It wouldn’t have made sense for a dude who has made more gains in the game than the entire LAST list to be on this one, throw Drake into that 10 and he’s the odd-man out. Magazines as an industry are late on stuff & with the internet, it’s only made the lateness of their news more glaring. But Fashawn dropped an album last year, a really good one, but he’s a freshman. But for all his unearthly skills, he ain’t won a ring yet… and Kobe Bryant (4 rings, may get a 5th) is still playing, na’mean? So I’ve always felt it was a bit premature to treat LeBron like the 2nd coming of Jesus.
But sometimes industries appoint a savior for the people and that’s what’s happening in rap right now. I still don’t understand why Drake signed a deal with Cash Money when he had major success on his own. Why break bread & put your career in the hands of another artist? I’m an independent-minded guy so I never understand shit like that.
But maybe it’s ‘cuz Drake wasn’t a starving artist. He already had paper so he was like, “Fuck it, I don’t mind giving Wayne a cut of my money. The publicity of being with Young Money is worth it’s weight in gold.” Or maybe he’s just another artist with an eye on the short-term gains only & he jumped the gun.
