A couple of days ago I revisited Maino’s If Tomorrow Comes. He’s definitely not the most lyrical guy in the world, but that doesn’t matter, he can actually construct decent records. And in my eyes, having the ability to craft a quality record is the most important trait any artist could have. That and he is one of the more believable artists in today’s landscape.
It’s no more apparent than on “Retaliate.” Word around town is that this is the street single from the new album The Day After Tomorrow. If that’s true, this is one hell of an introduction. Whomever Main was speaking about on this record obviously has a death wish because these were some of the more violent lyrics I’ve heard in a long, long while.
“It’s gon’ bring me joy just to see you on your death bed
Bullets in your torso, a hole in your forehead
I ain’t gon’ hesitate to run up give you more led
Come where you live and kill you on your door step
Put you in a casket, put you in a sleepin’ bag
Put that on my dead homies
I’ma murder you and laugh…”
I definitely wouldn’t advise listening to this on the way to work. It’d be kind of hard to explain Maino was the reason you decked Tom because his lazy ass left a gulp of coffee in the pot.

Maino did a 10 year bid for some greezy activities; you’re quite correct that he’s one of the more believable artists in hiphop’s current atmosphere.
love this,
maino is dope
Wow, either i’ve been listening to some soft shit lately or that sounded really, really, really angry.
^ thought the same thang gawd…

I like how Maino can switch up his attitude. If Tomorrow Comes had mostly a humble undertone to it. I liked how he conceptualized his growth from street hustler/jail bird to mainstream rap artist. Now that he’s found a little success (platinum single) and a decent debut considering the horrendous climate of music sales, I’d say he’s going to come out swinging on industry cats on this disc. He has a certifiable radio hit in “Bring It Back DJ”, and this is straight anger at it’s finest. Not only is this guy believable, but he has the passion and energy that is often missing in a lot of hip-hop music in today’s landscape.
While the bubble gum rappers are talking about whipping corners in yellow Lambo’s, Maino’s the type of guy apt to pull up in a stolen brown Honda Civic and shoot you.
This shit is HARD. STRAIGHT CRACK. FI-YAAAAAHHHHH!
Maino is that nigga.
BROOOOOOOOKLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYN!!!!!!
crazziesttt songg
anyone got the lyrics to the whole song ??
The game aint ready for Maino to blowup for real. I mean he got commercial success with All The Above and Hi Hater (not so much). He’s too real for these people man. Theyre not ready for it.
The song appears to be very much aimed at Bunky SA, considering the problems the two have had in the past/recently. Main is that dude tho, as said, he may not be always on point with his lyrics, but you feel every line he spits!
