Drake – “Over”
AUDIO By TC on March 4, 2010 at 7:24 pmThe precedence set with “Best I Ever Had” & “Successful” has been a blessing and a curse for Drizzy Drake. The level of anticipation those particular cuts set for his future endeavors was priceless but the expectations could prove to be very costly all the same.
From this point on, everything labeled with Thank Me Later will be scrutinized and magnified to the metronome. People will hate it upon first listen only to reverse their opinion weeks later after they’ve felt its “grown” on them with positive results.
One thing’s for sure, which can be counted as win nonetheless…
We’re all listening.

“People will hate it upon first listen only to reverse their opinion weeks later after they’ve felt its “grown” on them with positive results.” Hopefully That’s The Case Because This Ain’t Hittin To Me Right Now Joe.
that hook is egregious
No Go on the hook but his verses are pretty good and that beat…THAT BEAT. I love the beat!
Coming from Toronto it’s a good feeling to hear one of our own pushing through the door. Kudos to Kardinal but this dude got the world watching. Please believe homie is nice but this is just the beginning. I promise.

Drake is Drake so that’s whatever, but that beat–minus the bells–does some work. I hope enterprising emcees snatch that instrumental up.
The last few tracks, Drake has started to sound like he screaming on tracks. Delivery don’t sound as smooth and laid back as much anymore
Actually, chorus is a go, verses not so much.
I fux w/the hook.
@Tanners! damn! I didn’t even hear the bells until you pointed them out…they’ll haunt me now
Instrumental please, those strings are vicious.
Not bad. Hooks cool. The sample from the hook would have sounded cool in the verse somewhere.
.
that hook gets the camron face
Overall, a successful song by Drake. I’m sure people will find fault with this song, but this is something I and ride to and have the Crystal Clear speakers work their magic. I would prefer this to be an intro track, but I ain’t mad at cha.
Sounds like everyone is ready to Dennis Green crown Drake.
I’m not sold. He is who we thought he was.
wish i could this comment support on my site as well…
Boi-1da is fucking amazing man. He’s gonna be the next go-to producer..
Wordy hook fail.
Jingle bells fail.
Besides that, he’s good.
It’s Too Typical Drake To Me I Feel Like I Heard It Before But Don’t Get Me Wrong But I Would’ve Stepped “Over” It As A Single Choice…. Pun Intended.
maaaaaaaaaassive song.
See what I’m saying.
This guy says the bells are a nice touch, someone says they’re a distraction. The hook is wack–no its great! He flowed better on Comeback Season blah blah blah.
Just listen and digest people.
After hearing the track with Alicia Keys, now this, That producer is a beast. That beat is like heroine.
Well, Drake is getting more love here than 2dopeboyz. It’s a slaughterhouse over there.
fuk dat
call him
Drake Jovi
Bon Drizzi !
Forever, Mo Milly, Money To Blow, Fear
now Over as his first song off his lp
this album has potential to be huge
wait & see ; weezy’s jail…
mouse drizzy dances !
” i’m dah savior, the french savoir faire
keep it 100, this is real ‘saveur’ ! “
Damn that…. I fux with the whole song. Shit is dope.
That beat is profound gaht damn!
boi-1nda is nice with his.
this’ll make noise.
As someone who has been listening to young Aubrey from his Replacement Girl days, I’ve noticed ever since So Far Gone has dropped and since he “signed” with Young Money, his punch isn’t really Tyson anymore (Don’t know boxing so excuse my lack of comparison of a boxer’s skill level to Tyson’s). I’ve found his YM stuff, boring and unmemorable and for the plain fact it’s YM. The same YM who gave us the fresh out of middle school young’ns Chuckie and Lil Twist and “Damn the money changed you” Jae Millz.
This track will probably have to grown on me, once the repeat play begins and I hear/read the “OMG Drizzy went in” comments on Twitter, Facebook, in person etc. But yeah, that’s how I feel TSS.
Heart your site Gotty.
29 comments on this crap but barely any on the Fab/Drama tape or the Willie The Kid tape??? C’mon son…
Drake bites dead prez a little.

The first damn like too.
*line
wtf.
Flea the reason I didn’t say anything about WTK is my mama always tells me if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all. lol
This is a solid lead single
Flea keeps it real.
I d/led the Fab tape, but not this, lol.
well, i cant promote the fact that i’ve got drake and fabolous posted on my site anymore. lol everyone does by now…
but i still have the DNA of the Blueprint mixtape posted up!
Sick beat! But ya know… Awman’s gonna kill it! LOL
as long as you all understand that he is harmonizing at most and not actually ‘singing,” 50 Cent lysp: “who the hell cares!”
Bart, thanks sooooooo much. I didn’t understand, now I do.
sounds like something Jeezy would rap on….it’s alright…it will most likely “grow” as you said
I’m down with this song, didn’t think I would after first listen but the content is decent enough quality. Still digesting.
This hook takes getting used to, but then sinks in well IMO.
No beef but yomitsuki you’re like one of those lil’ fishies that attach to & run with whales and scoop up any nearby plankton
Yeah this is straight heatrocks. The beat is on some 70′s action movie shit.
beat +
hook +
rhyme -
the only hot bars are property of dead prez
delerium, if youre taking a joking matter about beating one of the big boys (TSS) to the punch, then you are taking things way to serious. get over it man. oh and “no beef”…
i’m chillin
cool
^^ alright cool
now the question is, since fab is out, and drake finally put out something…which one comes frist?
the outkast album (or the solos), jay-z’s next album, or detox? hell, we might get drake’s second album before we see detox or outkast
I’m prolly the most ignorant of anyone commenting on this topic but I enjoyed it.
I’m a hater I suppose, I dont like it.
God this song is definently no single, it sounds unfinished, it needs snares somewhere during the jingle bells part bc i just cant get into it….its a flop
Dope record, but this isn’t a radio record. It’s a buzz record & judging by the amount of comments on it in the short time it’s been made available equals mission accomplished. Love it or hate it, people are talkin about it & that’s all that matters now.
P.S. The backlash to this record is shockingly predictable people.
AV
Sick. Very much like “Forever” but I’m still rocking to it. This joint knocks. Even with the bells.
i like the beat sneakin back in durin the chorus. dope overall, drakes record got a high ass ceilin…gonna be nice to watch this dude progress, prolly wont take many L’s in his life
“I can teach you how to speak my language, Rosetta Stone
I swear this life is the sweetest thing I’ve ever known
bout to go Thriller, go mike jackson on n****s.”
Jay Electronica is looking real smart right now holding off ActII until the buzz from ExhibitC dies down. It’s gotta be hard to one up yourself while everyone is basking in the afterglow of your last effort. Jordan didn’t have to Byron Russell Byron Russell the next night. With that said: “Last name Ever, First name Greatest” > this.
Hook is ridiculous!
Beat is dope!
And his flow has my had bobbin!
The way his flow and the melodies he comes up with contrast with a beat is bananas!
Definitely gifted.
This joint knocks and I don’t particularly like Drake. Boi 1da should do his whole album.
Now I love Drake, but the hook is not my fav. The verses are cool. I want him to stop yellin and be smoother… like someone else said doesn’t feel complete. But the beat is hot.
He sounds like Lil’ Wayne
drizzy drake man what did they people expect man cleaver and witty punch lines beat is crazy cant wait till the album should be fire man give him his props man
I’m taking it for what it is…I like the track.
You can tell by the vibe of the song this is meant to set everything up. One thing about dude, he makes music that is relevant to his life at the current moment.
“I know way too many people here right now that I didn’t know last year….”
And like many have said, Boi-1da is THE go-to producer at the moment. I can’t remember ever hearing anything subpar from this dude. If he and Drake stay on their current paths, who knows what these two will be like in five years.
^ agreed, the track is fine, but the beat and rhymes reek of potential
Track is hot but I could do without the Michael Jackson line. I know I’m just bein nit-picky but let the man rest. He’ll be back at the end of October. Boi-1da really outdid himself on da beat. I keep thinkin All Green or Peabo Bryson are gonna start singin at any time.
*Al
lol at “grown on them”
stupidest concept ever, people need to just admit that they weren’t really listening completely if they’ve ever claimed anything has grown on them
@Brodacious
I understand that Dead Prez used that line on M1, but.. that line was originally a Bob Marley song..
“Brrrrrrr” NOT GOOD !!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW7IPvAyiTw Check out this video of Over!!
good
you’ll get addicted to this song if you keep listening. i cant stop. found this cover on youtube of it also, pretty dope: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW7IPvAyiTw

Brodacious, word, he bites dead prez straight up. first time i heard it i was pissed. main stream bitin the underground
I like the song even tho i really dont get what he mean in hte hook tho but it’s kinda catchy tho
drake kills this just like he kills every song he is on. wayne is about to take a backseat to him pretty soon
He will always be Jimmy to me!! lol No Drake is crazy, I love him. Listenin to him right nowww :))))
