Finally.

We get to see some real aggression on a tennis court from a player NOT named Serena Williams. It’s never a good thing when you place two people in the same room that have to pretend to like each other. And like clockwork, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras verified this at an event that was supposed to benefit victims of the Haiti earthquake. Instead, the two tennis legends traded verbal volleys that left the match on shaky ground.

“It was out of line,” Agassi told ESPN.com on Monday. “It was inappropriate. The night was on fire. We were all having fun. I was trying to be comedic. I only had a split second to make a decision. I went for it and it fell flat. I was trying to get past it, but Pete didn’t really let me get past it. He didn’t really roll with it. I’ve texted Pete to ask him if I can apologize in person.”

Pete says Andre walks like a tightwad and Andre says Pete tips like one. Where’s the love? (Pun intended.) Those most have been fightin’ words for Pete because he goes at Double A’s head to scalp the remaining strands of hair. Me thinks if the cause wasn’t for charity, Sampras would have jumped the net and tested the worth of Agassi’s Icy Hot®. Clearly Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were enjoying the show; they would have let it go.

With controversy like that, they probably would have doubled the $1 million raised from the event, though.
