I actually received a hard copy of this and decided to rip and reup for the masses since it’s two criminally underrated musicians who deserve a marching band to trumpet their cause. Jazzy Jeff and Ayah will be releasing This Way soon. With the snap of Jeff’s drum patterns & crisp production matched with Ayah’s full, round vocals, the duo’s complimenting styles should produce more than the fair share of playlist-worthy additions. For now, the sampler to the release – complete with five full songs & seven snippets – should tide listeners over until to the project’s drops.

checking this out for sure.
It is dope, can’t wait for the full album to drop.
yeah, it really is, no bs. It’s got a strong pop to it. it puts you in the mind of Jill Scott but her voice is slightly different. Nobody’s touching Jeff’s production so no use in trying to compare that to anything. like i said, it’s got a good pop to it. And the “snippets” aren’t really short since they clock in well over 1:30 each.
I have never thought about the Jill Scott comparison; I will have to think on that. The snippets give you a good feel for each track.
Y’all know where I’m at wit ol girl…. I wonder if voluntarily giving away like 1/2 your album is gonna help tho. I mean, of course i-nuts is gonna jack it first chance they get, but still… She’s not a rapper. I don’t know that she’s prolific enuff to crank out material to keep up with/build demand.
but hey, I’ve said that about certain singers in the past and been wrong. I think every time (save for Marsha Ambrosius, Hope Shorter and Martin Luther—I was right about them–they missed their window).
But hey maybe Ayah will be one of those road dawgs and grind for 100-200 dates a year and build a following.
I swear it’s just impossible to figure out the music game right now. Who really knows the right way to push an artist anymore? Speaking of which, any of you SXSW attendees catch Ayah down there? Supposedly she did a good show with Jeff…
BC:
I don’t know if there is a right way to promote an artist anymore. But what is worse the record industry doesn’t know either. I guess if the album is going to leak regardless, she might as well do it herself.
Is Jeff actually producing these tracks, or is he acting more like an executive producer who can also provide dope scratching? If memory serves, Jeff didn’t do most of the production on those early Jill Scott albums; Touch of Jazz affiliates Andre Harris and Vidal Davis did.
In any event, I’ll check this out.
I know her pictures don’t do her justice after seeing her this weekend.
