If it’s one thing conservative America has never been thrilled about, it’s Eminem and Howard Stern – with microphones. Knowing what we know now about his life and career, it may be hard to remember Marshall when he was still the new kid with a co-sign by Dre and potential beyond any realm of comprehension. To add to that, not only did “the great white hype” live up to the potential, he became a living legend in the process.
This 1999 interview with Howard Stern showcases a then wide-eyed Em still learning the ropes of the industry. If you’re like me, you enjoy nostalgic stuff like this because it allows you to put stuff in perspective. Before Proof’s passing, before the worldwide acclaim, before 50, before the drugs and before the Ja Rule/Benzino beef, this will likely serve as Rabbit’s most personal and open interview ever.
Question is, 11 years from now, what new artist will we say had a career as successful as Eminem’s?

im gona go ahead and say that no one will. i remember reading how marshall mathers lp went diamond (10 mil sold) in iceland! iceland, man! fuckin iceland. thats amazing in itself. let alone the sales for that album elsewhere and every other album, tour and guest appearance.
you could almost argue that eminem has had an equal impact to the explosion of hip hop globally as run dmc. sounds foolish i know, but run dmc and rap in general wasnt exactly accepted worldwide like it is now.
this vado shit is still on repeat…
they got the video version of the interview here:

he looks hella blazed
haha eminem was crackin me up. Kinda crazy when Howard said he was gonna be all cracked out when Em ended up bein on pills an shit
yomitsuki… dont believe everything you read. Iceland has a population of roughly 3 to 400,000 people. each person would have to buy roughly 25 cd’s
also its only sold 19 mil worldwide, hold em down iceland
yeah i hear you..

Man I stopped checkin for Eminem after Encore but I’ve always respected him. I hope his next album he raps more like he did on forever and less like he did on ALL OF RELAPSE… ugh
WOW @ people calling in tho telling him he’s not shit and that he’s frontin and he’ll be a one hit wonder. LMAO talk about being WRONG
“I hope his next album he raps more like he did on forever and less like he did on ALL OF RELAPSE…”
*In Jim Gaffigan voice* Hey! I LIKED Relapse, buddy! >:(
so why do they keep cuttin him off again? it kinda makes listening to the interview annoying and pointless
Yeah I saw the video of this interview two days ago
http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/videos/id.4940/title.eminem-1999-howard-stern-interview
I was pretty annoyed with how Howard wouldnt stop talking about the ‘talking black’ thing the whole interview, Im like ‘fam get over it’. Em for the mist part held his own and didnt let it get to him. I might have flipped then, he took a minute…
“I just do not got the patience, to deal with these cocky Caucasians, who I’m some wigger who’s just tryna be black, cause I talk with a accent and grab on my balls….(and so on)”
“I hope his next album he raps more like he did on forever and less like he did on ALL OF RELAPSE…”
——————————————————
*Jim Gaffigins voice cont*
“Hey! I LIKED Relapse too……..”
*small voice*
“I dont get it, Who’s jim gaffigan”
*smaller voice* “I think he plays for the Cleveland Browns”
*small voice* “Why would he use HIS voice”
before the drugs?
im pretty sure Em’s been on drugs since his youth.
Yeah… I used to listen and watch Howard (on the E! Channel) back in the day and always found him entertaining – but I also found it not to be a part of his “character,” but the truth of his feelings simply coming out time and time again whenever Black guests would be on.
I mean it is cool to make a comment here and there, but the guy’s entire interviews would be taken over about “being Black.”
(How Blacks speak, how it was to live in the hood and grow up fatherless because all Black men abandon their children, how it felt to get shot, if they were stickup kids or dope dealers, etc – no matter if the guest experienced not one of the aforementioned)
Do not get me wrong, the guy is a genius in inventing this larger than life person (which has made him very wealthy), but at times the race thing was just too much. I had never even heard this interview before but became quite bored and stopped it when he just would not stop talking about how “Black” Em was (or was trying to be).
Real Anonymous,
Stern’s always been a race-baiting bigot. He’s smart, he’s entertaining and he knows how to put on a compelling radio show. But he’s also a racist. Always has been.
The only difference between Stern and a KKK member is Stern will call you a nigger with a smirk on his face and a laugh track underneath. And he have that idiot Robin (who’s gotten rich off being his coon-piece) sitting right next to him going “Oh Howard, you’re too much!”
