Zeta Tau Alpha. That’s who. Haven’t heard of them? That’s because the sorority isn’t one of the historically black sororities you’ve come to know and love.
These young ladies are white. And they are the winners of the biggest step show in the country.
Let it marinate.
Ok, let’s continue.
As soon as they start, the crowd goes crazy partly (ok, mostly) out of shock that the group of white girls had a semblance of rhythm. But let’s not get it twisted: as someone who’s been a step captain for one group or another for the last six years, I can attest that ZTA put on a damn good show. Of course, I didn’t see the other groups, but they would have had to have done something pretty spectacular to have a gripe about the winners.
While watching the video, I kept thinking “when the music starts, it’s gonna fall apart.” Well, prepare to have your brain leak out of your skull at the eight minute mark. Mayhaps I underestimated them a tad. They’re from Arkansas too? Let me roll up on Mary Katherine Bentley or anyone else on this team. Things might get serious.
Congrats, Zeta Tau Alpha. You shook up the world!

It’s good to hear from fellow steppers, ’cause I know a lot of folks (commenters at Bossip, specifically) have got their heads in one big trough of Haterade, right now. White or black, that was a solid routine. Apparently, the Deltas were so mad, they stormed out when ZTA won, but their routine wasn’t beating anybody anyway.
But how phat are their asses?!
Naw, the AKA’s had ‘em beat in the phat asses department, no question!
Here’s a link to the AKA’s, 2nd place, from Indiana Univeristy.
What people need to know about ZTA at the University of Arkansas is that these girls always play to win. Being from that area and knowing what’s up on “The Hill”, ZTA is a Pan sorority that always been known as the “cheerleaders/danceteam” sorority. This comes natural for them. But I do know alot of the NPHC orgs were saaaaaaaaalty when they announced it at the step show. We thought it was funny, because they brought it and nobody else didn’t.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1swlMFa3pvw
^whoa…that’s a close one. They had a dope show.
And…whoo lawd them AKA’s look scrumptious
@David D. – Yeah, if phat asses were part of the judging criteria, I could see AKAs winnin’ the whole thing!
But yeah, the folks commenting at Youtube were acting like ZTA weren’t good, if not on par with the AKAs, when that certainly didn’t look like the case to me. Both teams definitely brought, but if the judges say ZTA were the winners, why should that be an issue to people? “Oh, they just voted for them for novelty’s sake.” If those chicks had been black, I’d like to think the people who thought they rightfully won would still feel the same way.
Black folk can’t stand being beat at anything that they claim as exclusively theirs. Not to mention all the other rationalizations they wanna throw out, “you know a black person taught them those moves!” So what if they did?! They still had to pull off those moves, and it takes the same amount of practice, discipline and dedication to do a routine like that, as it would take a black team. They didn’t learn that shit through osmosis! They trained to do that shit just like everyone else.
Looks just like the Matrix.
Well, I could never step so anything halfway decent is impossible for me. That said, these girls killed it. I heard some lesser known organization won, but wow, they deserved to win.
cotdamn that AKA squad is fiiiiiiine
^^JEAH!!! Word to MS Eight
The AKA’s were better. The Matrix theme has been done to death, it was tired when I graduated and that was five years ago. The white girls were coordinated but didn’t show the athleticism and originality.
It’s really a close one…the AKAs had that one-leg thing which was super dope and the cheerleaders stunts too. It was the best AKA step team I’d ever seen. Indiana stand up I guess
The AKA’s were from an Atlanta stepshow. Here are the AKA’s from Howard, check the backdrop… they were considerably less impressive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7ErwbvUnu0
Great googly gumdrops them AKAs are some STALLIONS!
Well I am pleased that the “Divine 9″ was provided a national platform in order to showcase, history talent and tradition, I believe that the Zetas won for simply copying steps of other Divine 9 organizations. In addition, when one looks at the advertisement photos of the event, the 9 are represented, and no one else.
We as Black people need to look inside ourselves as ask how much of our history, life and legacy are we going to allow to be stripped from us! This is the second national step show event that I have heard another ethnicity win over that of the African-American teams that trailblaized the art.
For all those reading this, thinking I’m hating, you’re right! I am hating that what is OURS can not stay that way. If you want to step, join a Divine Org. And Divine 9, stop selling yourself short….. and cheap. They were taught by AKA for free and just made 1.5 millon dollars
^^^^
hater.
seriously….why the hell is it taboo other IFC, NALFO and other pan orgs to try steppin? and be GOOD at it!
being a part of a greek org myself (Sigma Lambda Beta…shout-outs to any cuzzos out there…Sigmas and Zetas!!!)….I’ve seen a lot of step-shows in my time….noth NPHC and non-NPHC….some of these multicultural orgs and “white” orgs put to shame the NPHC orgs when it comes to steppin and strollin.
so props to ZTA…they came hard and did their thing. if the NPHC are salty for ZTA winning….shoulda kept it strictly Divine 9 and that’s it.
Don’t you love it when people who hate being discriminated against discriminate against other people?
And it just seems very telling that when it comes to (white) people stealing our “culture”, it’s all just music and dance-related. We’ll cry foul if a white rapper rises to fame, or in this case, some white chicks beat us at a step show. But I don’t think we’d care about these things in more blacks were say, owners of multinational corporations, or banks, if we could actually compete on an economic level whatsoever with any major car corporation, or any bank or stock trading organization.
Yeah, whites may have fought to keep blacks out of things they wanted to exclusively be theirs, but they could care less now, knowing they hold all the cards where it really counts.
Happy Black History Month lol
Happy Black History Month lol

LMAO, you sir are a dumbass for that one.
@Perry – How are you gonna knock ZTA for doing a Matrix theme, when the AKAs did Rhythm freakin’ Nation! What year was that?!? 1991?
It was that ZTA didn’t bring their A game; I just think they weren’t as good as the AKA.s from Indiana. To me, the K’s had a cleaner performance. And yes, I believe that some of the scoring was based on crowd enthusiasm. ZTA put on a great show and so did the AKA’s.
oh its already being brung!
Yo… that’s a tough call against those AKA’s… the ZTA’s lines weren’t as clean IMO, but then again, from that angle you couldn’t see all of the AKA’s.
BTW… just off the dance sequence alone, some of the ZTA are automatic buss downs. I’m just sayin’….
All this just makes me think even more that black people are the most racist people in the world. Mostly everyone is tryin to move on except for them crazy crackers and black people. It’s like black people are uncomfortable without racism.
It’s so bad black people are complaining about black chicks in Wale’s video not being dark enough, dumb
^I agree. It’s a tough call. The AKA one-legged thing is a hard one to beat. The ZTAs had that board up though which was real tight. It’s really a toss-up.
umm…I was agreeing with Doug…you on your own No A
Lol, i figured that. It’ just some random shit I said cus this is getting mad annoying. these chicks did their thing regardless of race. But yo, people were talking abut racism in the Epic Beard Man video, shits out of hand.
I was there, and while the ZTA’s did do an excellent job, the Tau Chapter AKA’s definitely did better. What put them over the top for the win was shock value which garnered crowd participation. The crowd went wild when they saw they were white. Yes, they stepped hard and it was precise. But the AKAs stepped harder, did more tricks, and better utilized their theme. Everyone has stepped on a board before, not that hot. An entire step on one leg…hot. If ZTA had won and had a hands down better show, fine. But they definitely won for ratings, which obviously worked; its all over the media. But for the AKA’s in 2nd place that lost out on an additional $50,000 in scholarships so that Sprite could get better ratings because of controversy, not ok to me. Tau Chapter AKA’s were phenomenal! Let it be known. :) Good job Girls
chick did mess up at the 5:27 mark….but they are some steppers fa sho
^^^ I caught a couple of slips… I just can’t compare unless I was there to see both. Congrats to both step teams.
Bailey, I could not agree more I was also there front row dead center. I have several issues with several entities beyond both 1st and 2nd place control. First off the show was over 6 hours long and the young ladies were told (probably for ratings) there would be a step off of 1st and 2nd place. Had that happened we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Why a step off of the frats in 3rd place and not the ladies? I’m not sure. The show was the most disorganized thing I had ever seen. The MC made a horrible comment about all that weave when TAU chapter AKAs were on the stage and then made the comment when ZTA left the stage that all that hair was real… very poor taste. He also lead the audience to “give it up” for ZTA twice. He didn’t do that for the AKAs since they went first (and the stage crew hadn’t quite figured out the audio yet) so yes the crowds reaction was more than with TAU chapter AKAs. I know the TAU chapter ladies they have a lot of dignity and it showed on stage. They would not have thought of breaking the rules and doing a sexually explicit move as the other team did. They used video had a theme that I could recognize and follow (mom never saw the matrix)and were very precise in their movements. Creativity and truly stepping (not dancing) by any other judge that has attended a college or university with black greek should have taken TAU chapter AKAs to the top. ZTA deserved 2nd or maybe even 3rd for breaking the rules along with 3rd place team. I’m very disappointed that sprite could not continue with it’s original Chicago schedule, announced the wrong winners in Chicago, held us hostage for over 6 hours in Atlanta before announcing the winners and using judges and an MC that have no college or greek life experience. But then again money talks and how good would ratings be if the unknown chapter won on the show that MTV is airing and not the sorority or fraternity that the show is following.
It’s getting heated in here
First a white girl wins the Homecoming Queen crown at an HBCU and now this. I’m feeling like a black teabagger now.
“They takin our -ish!”
“Happy Black History Month lol

LMAO, you sir are a dumbass for that one.”
Haha I don’t know why but I chuckled when I saw that.
Barack Obama changed American history when he became the most powerful man in the Free World, and because of this it shows that anything is possible.
Change is good, and the women of ZTA have definately initiated a small change in the way African Americans view “STEPPING”.
^you’re gonna have to explain a lot of things about that statement lol
Hey I am a Phi Beta Sigma man and when I 1st heard this I was like noway…Hey looking at this tape these girls got mad skills and who ever said white girls can’t dance they might be right but they prove they can step…stop hating they did their thing
^sup MAB!
If these white girls winning make you feel any less black, then your problem is not with them! It’s with yourself! They were good so give them their props!
This does not change your African history. They won!
Had the AKAs won the Deltas would have been hating about how it should have been them. Really people, come on! I graduated from a HBCU and I’m married to an Ape (that’s an Alpha for the slow people) so I’ve had my fair share of shows! This is how it goes at every show! We all know that the ones that get the most house (forwhatever reason) has the best chance at winning.
There will always be hating, but let’s not make it about race!
Let’s try to erase the color lines!
ZTA… Many props!!!!!
The Ks got manipulated and cheated. I was at the show. And when Ludacris has to QUALIFY the announcement of the winners before announcing them, you know it’s a trick to it. ZTA was good, but the pitty-pat steps were very basic and they were not better than Tau Chapter.
We won’t even get into what was happening BEHIND the scenes. D9 needs to stand up.
Reports have been leaving out the booing and the fact that sprite asked sororities to move to the back of the bus so ZTA could sit in the front, moving them from the front table at dinner for ZTA, ZTA paying BIG money to have their show choreographed… I can go on….
http://straightfromthea.com/2010/02/23/crowd-boos-zeta-tau-alpha-win-drake-performance-2010-sprite-step-off/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+StraightFromThea%2FRepYoCity+%28Straight+from+the+%22A%22+~+Celebrity+Gossip+Atlanta+Style!%29&utm_content=Twitter
A stunned Ludacris had to re-iterate to the crowd that it was the judges who chose the winner, and minutes after the final announcement the judges were promptly ushered out as the crowd got unruly.
some of Ya’ll negroes can be incredibly selfish, and greedy at times. In today’s world ,how do you expect certain “cultural activities” to always belong to “you”? Whats up with sharing or letting someone else in….Hmmm lets see!! Basketball wasn’t “ours”,, football wasn’t “ours”. Tennis and golf still aren’t ours BUT WE GOT LET IN!!!or better yet …fought our way in. STOP BEING SO AFRAID OF OTHER CULTURES WANTING TO BE DOWN!!!AND TO ALL YOU MALE NEGROES IF YOU WANA BE SO CULTURALLY GREEDY…TAKE THOSE BRUCE LEE POSTERS OF YOUR WALL and while your at it stop wishing you were Italians with all the mafia-influenced rap talk. Stop watching Goodfellas. Stop watching Scarface, cause your not Cuban. We gave up rock and roll and gave birth to rap. Everyone in the world has a creative gene. Those white girls were ill and the shock value didn’t hurt either.
Ebony and Ivory Stepping together in perfect harmony; until dem white gals won and all HELL BROOKE LOOOSE!!!!!
lol
HOL UP!!!! HOLLL UP!!!!! 5:26 INTO THE VIDEO…HUGE MISTAKE.!!….GIRL ON THE FAR LEFT OF YA’LLs SCREEN…..IF THIS WAS ABOUT EXECUTION AND PERFECTION……..HOW COME NO ONE SAW THIS!!!! AFTER LOOKING AT IT AGAIN!!! THEY WERE DOPE !!NOT PERFECT!! AND I THINK SHOCK VALUE DID WIN IT FOR THEM …PLUS THE MOVIE “BRING IT ON”…….hey but I love white girls and sisters. Not a racial bone in my body!
It was just a matter of time before something like this happened. For bout the past 10 years or so stepshows have become more of a “danceoff” with props. The shit is heading the way of the slam dunk contest, all show no substance. Give them guls props they won within the rules.
This is really a tragic day! This reminds me of the movie about the all-white Kentucky team that lost to the all-Black team in basketball in the 1960s! This was our activity!
http://stuffblackpeopledontlike.blogspot.com/2010/02/298-being-out-stepped.html
This is absolutely crazy! How did this happen?
http://stuffblackpeopledontlike.blogspot.com/2010/02/298-being-out-stepped.html
These girls were not original. They stole ALL of their moves from the Divine 9. And they’re making moves and gestures that have symbolism from slavery and probably don’t even realize it. That’s not hating, that’s a fact. And the Matrix theme is soooooo old. These girls won b/c they stepped good for white girls. Black folks love getting approval from white people. Well, ya’ll have it. And Sprite used black greek orgs to get the word only to have a non-black org win. How much money did the black greek orgs get from Sprite? I hear crickets.
If it’s true that AKA’s from their campus taught them these moves, the AKAs shot themselves in the foot. Their sorors from Indiana lost to these copycats.
Funny thing is this Zeta Tau sorority was founded in the 1800s. How many black women did they turn away because they didn’t want any black women in their organization? Organizations like theirs is the reason why we founded BGLO. And what we do, just give massah our dance moves and our culture. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!
They could all get it.
Carry on.
I think some folks are taking this to a level unnecessary – give ZTA their due respect – let’s not be sore losers by complaining about how “steppin” and “strollin” belong to blacks. If this was a competition solely for BGLOs then how were these ladies able to enter in the first place. The truth is that few folks had a problem until they saw these ladies “bring it”. That’s when the importance of honoring tradition seemed to come to light.
And what tradition are we speaking of, exactly? Hopefully, it is not a tradition that excludes or ignores the talents of others on account of their race – that would be hypocritical. Hopefully, we are talking about one that is for the propagation of dignity, honor, and respect for ourselves as well as OTHERS…That’s what it’s all about.
The judges felt that ZTA out-stepped TAU so if anybody has a problem with the outcome then they should be directing them there – what say y’all to your most down ATL “A” listers? I’m sure the judges were schooled very carefully on the criteria and did not allow the “shock” of “white girls with rhythm” to woo them for such a significant event. Why are folks focusing upon race? I thought the past year would’ve inspired America to look past that…I guess we did not get the memo. This was probably a new sight for some of y’all on the east coast, but in the south, inter-Greek step shows are nothing new. Even if ZTA would’ve been all black, they still would’ve owned that competition.
It’s the 21st century – get with the times folk. We live in an increasingly “global” environment, what do you expect? Thousands of people around the world are learning about us through the web and other media outlets and have been for a long time now. Gaps are being bridged in a fashion and speed that we haven’t seen since MJ blew up. I think it has made us more relate-able as people. This attitude against other groups sampling (aka “sharing”) our culture (aka “goods”), at the root, is the very thing that drives racism, classism, sexism, wars, etc. If anything, I think seeing these ladies do what they did should make you proud. You know the saying : “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery” – they did it the right way, too (see: “minstrelsy”).
tell me why they wasnt spose to win again… oooh the same reason why Eminem cant be the best rapper
BS by the way
I’m happy the Zeta’s won. I think it’s funny how some would say they are “taking our stuff” when we don’t even know what we have. Black people are always about, “that’s ours, tha’s ours” we fight for black history month and most don’t even know the first thing about their culture, but when it comes to hair texture, any other race falls out of your mouth before black does. We are very conveniently proud only when we feel we are losing something but again, we still don’t know what we have. I could easily say that we took “sports” from them. Didn’t they have it “first”? Call me what you will, but I’m glad they showed up and showed out. Those of you who were /are up in arms, you are just upset because they showed you that you weren’t the best at something you though was “yours”. It’s for everyone. They deserved that win. If you think you are better, bring it next year. Externalizing does you no good. Don’t make your problem, their problem.
I’m amazed and saddened by the posted comments. As a neutral observer (2/3 black, 1/4 white, 1/8 Indian, 3/13 hispanic) AND one who was backstage, I can assure you that there was NO racial/corporate bias. In fact, Ludacris was HESITANT to announce the ZTAs won BECAUSE they were white. Ahem… After they won, I saw a few ZTAs crying backstage after being insulted by the black Greeks. If the situation were reversed, I dare say Mr. Jesse Jackson would on site.
Re-read Dr. King’s papers.
If anyone saw color instead of talent, then re-read the above…
I knew it! Turns out this was RIGGED all along. After judges themselves questioned Sprite and MTV, they admitted they made some “ERRORS” in calculating the scores. AKA now shares first place. The only reason they didn’t totally remove first place from this “dance” team was to save face. Truth always prevails.
Now go find some other white women to protect (whether they deserve it or not).
So it was okay for them to participate as long as they didn’t win,ey? Ha!
Here are the winner of the Old school new school portion of the sprite step off!
Kappa’s put on a great show!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nQ2oqh-D3Q
This is so funny. The ZTA’s won fair and square and the AKA’s cried injustice so loudly to force the judges to change the results. Well, you got your black president, but he is only going to serve ONE term. He is a loser JUST like the AKA’s.
Scoring discrepancy changes results of Sprite Step Off

@Nathan Bedford – If this is your real name, I hope you were not named after him:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Bedford_Forrest
I am a Delta, ZTA did not deserve to win first place. They where judged on the same standards as the other sororities. The AKAs had them beat. ZTA had so many mistakes. Plus the judges did not know what to look for in a step off. Dont get me wrong, ZTA did a good job but they only won because they where WHITE!!!
Cali Red- Isn’t it very hypocritical to say that the judges didn’t know what to look for in a step off and then say that the AKA’s deserved to win. Especially seeing as how they (the judges/Sprint/Coca Cola) eventually allowed them to share the title as well? Really?! Does it matter because they are white. Don’t get me wrong, I love being black, but it makes me sad sometimes to think that just because someone else does something better than blacks then it must be race. I guess illiteracy is on the rise….must be the blacks. But who am I to judge? I don’t know anything….I’m just a teacher.
Stripping your legacy from you? Sport that you trailblazed?
If that’s the gig, then stay the fuck out of football, basketball and baseball.
No? I didn’t think so. Welcome to the free world…live in it and bring it, or lose the game.
Kinda funny that the author of this post did not bother to watch the other groups before commenting…The Zetas were good but lacked cadence and a certain je ne se quois. Yes, the AKAs did flip their hair too much, but their routine had elements the Zetas did not-balancing your leg on your teammate’s back while performing is impressive; gyrating your hips as if you are at a club is not. The Zetas were robbed just like the AKAs;they were rewarded for mediocrity. A. Keys is a decent pianist but she will never be in the same conversation as Beethoven. My point? The ladies of Zeta put on a performance that was worthy of recognition, but not much else. Their delivery was soft and dare I say it, I could almost see them counting the steps in their head. To exceed mediocrity, you must surpass being able to get the moves but exhibit a certain effortless quality so that it doesn’t even sound like an instrument being played or a step being performed but an experience And alot of people have been commenting on the AKAs “flipping their weave” and looking into imaginary mirrors. If you’ve ever been to a step show or know anything about the AKA
stereotype they are considered to be the “pretty uppity girls” and they frequently check these imaginary mirrors–this is just a part of their swag.
Oh, and the judges were Ludacris, Monica, and Chilli. And while they are awesome performers, there are certain elements and aspects of stepping that I’m sure they aren’t aware of….
Oh and as far as the weave–the Zetas dyed their hair brown and wearing extensions–some of the black girls were undoubtedly wearing weaves or extensions as well; this is what you do when you compete. Football players suit up with pads and a uniform; women wear make-up and extensions to achieve a certain look that adds to the performance. So let’s stop with the black on black hatred.
I know that it does not seem fair to many that the ZTA won but they showed up. You can’t undermine your competition. The world undermined that a black man could be president b/c Jessie Jackson never made it. Reality is that if you don’t guard your own house then expect a robber to find you out. I attended Ole Miss, I pledged at Tougaloo-DST96, and received my doctorate in pharmacy from Ole Miss. the day James Meredith walked on the campus of Ole Miss i had a chance because somebody didn’t see it ever happening. When you are off your A game, you get sucker punched. America was sucker punched on 9/11. you have to be like an advanced chess player. you need to always be 10 steps ahead OR the steps you make might be the steps to give your competition, rival, or whatever the upper hand. How many times have we entered into a sport or whatever and upset the masses of the dominant race. this is why so many people are happy about tiger’s fall and steve mcnair’s demise. they see the fall of a black man at the hand of a white female but we see the death and destruction of awesome talent that some want to extinguish b/c they don’t want to see black people rise. It is not about race all the time. Sometimes if you just show up you automatically receive attention, grace, and a high five for being present. I leave you with this thought. Jesus gave out 3 talents and told the individuals that he would return. when he did 2 had used what he gave them to create more but one hid his in the ground. Jesus took his back and reissued it. You have 3–race, sex, and intellect. As a black women i was told i had to use all three to make it happen. ZTA must have been taught the same thing. they used all 3 and the only ones that are upset are the ones that didn’t use intellect. What will you use after reading this, because i don’t know anyone who comes to the USA from poor country that will not take advantage of all the opportunities that we take for granted. BE ENCOURAGED BUT ABOVE ALL BE PREPARED MENTALLY,PHYSICALLY, ACADEMICALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY. this is how you play on a green field in the skin you are in and have the ability to dominant. God Bless you all!
Bottom line the Ofay from Ark did their thing. The issue at hand is black and white which is shameful in itself. All it does it prepetuate what goes on everyday. If you take a close look at the “AKA’ routine the messed up The rythm national routine by janet and tina landon from many eons ago. The “white” girls were expected to be the typical “bring it on’ cheer squad types and it shocked many to see these females handle their BI. Shame on Chilli, Monica etc for flat out claiming……..well i’m not gonna go there……..shame on coca cola for renigging……i guess the 2008 (i believe) national step champion APHIA……..should not have been champs seeing they had a “white” boy on their squad………some of you people are amazing……you should spend this type of energy and concern going at you aldermen, congressmen, senate reps……..etc
Yo, ZTA did their thing. Did they deserve to win maybe/maybe not. I don’t think so IMHO. AKA’s routine was more technical, but a lot of steps shows aren’t won by being technical. I will say that the main difference I have seen between white and black steppers are we(My Black folks) step with more conviction. We step very emotionally with agression. ZTA and other NON Divine Nine stepper step with a smile on their faces……………..They don’t step as hard as we do.
But in the end I will give ZTA their credit. Though I have seen this routine from them countless times who all haven’t seen stepper mimic steps from previous shows…………plus ZTA had to learn the steps and execute them.
To the folks that don’t know a thing or two about stepping are looking at what ZTA did as something short of Spectacular……..when really it was on Average. To the one person who felt Eminem was the best rapper…………..he is the best white rapper to ever hold a mic YES. Not the best period point blank.
I feel like as a black man some cultural activities that we participate in should stay with us. hat’s how we find out more about our struggles, accomplishments, creativity, etc as a people. I am one for the world being united, but we are still individuals.
Good article…
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/03/02/1785585/the-wrong-step-toward-equality.html
Hey “Rocks a Million”…I feel like as a black man some cultural activities that we participate in should stay with us”, that’s pretty damn ridiculous, if that’s the case, then no blacks should be in fraternities nor sororities…which white folks created…personally, I’m not a follower and see fraternities and sororities as hodgepodge of the weak-minded average students whom for the most part, maxed out in HS. It DOES NOT take a whole hell of alot of coordination to STEP, I grew up in PR and I can attest that Hispanics have a whole hell of alot more coordination when it comes to crunking, popping, and stepping than any brother…you don’t see us complaining when non-Hispanics try to dance salsa…
To “Crimson Queen”…WTFO? McNair was an idiot and Tiger is just another Asian man with a tan, why Blacks claim Tiger to be theirs…befuddles me??? He’s half Asian, 100% Buddhist, speaks like a white boy, and plays a white game…essentially an Asian with a tan…his white wife, didn’t cause his demise, the fact that he couldn’t keep his junk in his pants, the mark of a weak man, is what caused it. I love him as an athlete, and ONLY watch golf when he’s in the hunt, but it’s not because he’s half black, it’s because he’s the greatest golfer…
Oh…BTW, Barack Obama is a white guy with a tan as well, the only thing black about him, is the sperm his loser alcoholic Kenyan father donated…his strong white family (and deep pockets with the Chicago mafia), get all of the credit for his success…well, for what’s left of his presidency anyway…he’s out in 2012…Howard Stern can run for the Republican party and beat him…
Who gave you a Phd?
“this is why so many people are happy about tiger’s fall and steve mcnair’s demise. they see the fall of a black man at the hand of a white female”
I am shocked by the ZTA win. Many people will say one race is hating on another. I am so sick of Black people working so hard to have a piece of the pie that has been denied taken away. We have HBCU”s becuase “other folk” would not let us in. Morehouse had a white valadictorian, and white HBCU homecoming queen. wth!!! The step show should have been DIVINE 9 only. Talking about the zta’s bringing it? THEY WERE TAUGHT the routine by the AKA”s. Why is that we can’t hold on to our heritage?
This blog is very interesting and disturbing at the same time. I understand my peoples when they say that ZTA did not deserve to win. I did not see the AKA’s performance. The fanfare abt these women being white told my brain that the performamnce was hot, which it was, but would I have been as excited if they were black? Im not so sure. I do agree abt what someone else put previously abt black folks needing validation from whites. Sometimes as blacks we do this subconsciously without realizing. The Sprite Step Off of course owned by whites that hired common and famous blacks to run it and get us to purchase tickets. How much money did they make and how much more are they gonna make next year for the grudge match. Its an endless cycle so Im not mad at ZTA. They really dont know know any better. There are many whites that wish to be “accepted by blacks”. I dont know this is a tough one.
I heard the newscast and saw a bit of the Zeta’s performance. They were GREAT!!!!! I also heard the commentator say steppin is for everybody. I agree with him. In this day and age when we demand equal rights, you can get pissey when you fall short of bringing it. I also say an interview with the ZETA’s captain wherein she admitted AKA from around her area first introduced steppin to the sorrority. They should consider it a honor that they one. They nutured them. SPRITE needs to get the judging rules and judges together before deciding a winner in the future.
The game of golf was invented in Scotland sometime around the 15 century and most likely by very white folks. I just wonder if some white folks might feel that their Anglo Saxon, white cultural heritage is being robbed of them every time they see a ½ white man win at this game. Just kidding, seriously, really I am.
Yo, they were hot!! I followed them through the competition because I had never seen a white step team. They blew my mind. Give them the props they deserve cause they killed it. Yes, as a sista, I am disappointed in the way the sista’s took the loss. Their reactions were more embarrassing than them losing to the vanilla chicks. Take it as a lesson and come strong and hard next year ladies.
Give credit where credit is due. I watched the young ladies and they were spectacular ! How can we say that only black greek organizations should be able to compete ? If the whites did the same things we be ready to call on Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson to say they ( whites ) discriminated against us. I graduated from a Historical Black College, and I’v seen plenty Step Shows in my time. I hate when we holler discrimination but when someone want to participate in something we are giving and win, we feel only we as blacks should be able to participate. Next years my Black Greeks, step it up a couple of notches and stop being haters. We can’t win everything…Girls, you were awesome !
Honestly, I have not even seen the show. But I have to respond to Divine 9 Lady from Feb 23rd.
I am a ZTA, and proud of it. We were founded in Farmville VA on Oct. 15, 1898 (in question to being founded in the 1800s, here’s the exact date for you) at the State Female Normal School (later called Longwood College, now Londwood Univeristy).
It’s true, none of the 9 founders were of African heritage. The school did not see its first African-American students until 1971. So yes, no African-Amnerican females were in the group to begin with.
Things have changed. There are African-American women who are proud and strong women of ZTA. One of those women convinced little ol’ white me to join her sisterhood and be part of something bigger than myself. I loved every minute of it.
Now this woman was not in ZTA because of the lack of traditionally black sororities (there were several groups on campus especially for African-Americans). She was in it because of the people and the cause, where everyone saw beyond racial lines and respected each other for their ideas and their personal talents, rather than just what color their skin was.
Also, she was not the first African-American female to join, and I know not the last. I had several other sisters of color join during my collegiate years (and have seen more join since, as well as other ethnicities over the years), and their friendship meant the same to me as girls with my own skin tone.
Because no matter our ethnic backbround, no matter our personal histories, we were sisters – and that’s what sorority is about.
Ok yeah…their white…so what!!!!
The bottom line is these girls were on point! Watching them step, one could see the many hours of many days they spent working the same routine over and over! These girls were one, from the color of their hair to their shoelaces!!! If a girl messed up, which I only counted twice, she messed up with a purpose and was still crunk. Not once did the two girls I saw lose their composer for one second. I say Congrats and send a big F U to all haters!!!
Proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. I LOVE MY Z-PHI!!!!

you speak the truth…you should have seen my eyes rolling b4 even reading replies… ofc you’re gonna have some ignorant racially sensitive mofo crying foul… pots and kettles…
Hi,what a great pants,thanks for sharing.I will get one like that.bill
I am the captain of the ZTA Epsilon National champion step team. I have read hundreds of comments, received hundreds or emails and messages all regarding the many accusations. TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.. First, our alumnae were taught how to step at the U of Arkansas roughly 16/17 years ago. The routine we won with was not taught by any AKA or anyone for that matter. We recognize and appreciate the introduction of stepping by the AKA’s to our chapter, but do not use any help from them now. THe University of Arkansas AKA’s along with other divine 9 organizations hate us(best way to put it) for the simple fact that we beat them in earlier rounds of the sprite step off. I had multiple members of divine 9 teams we competed against at the regional and national level (including the IU chapter of AKA post competition) compliment our hard work and continued to apologize on behalf of their fellow sisters. Let me just say, I am in an interracial relationship and live with an african american female that has been my best friend since grade school. I have never witnessed more racial discrimination in my lifetime for such ridiculous reasons. We never once disrespected nor meant any harm to any divine 9 organization. Do all whites suddenly not need scholarship money too?? To the comments about the dancing… maybe its just the south, but from any step competition I have ever seen everyone does a little ass shaking… so ya we were trying to fit in haha. Overall,I met some amazing people throughout this journey and heard some ignorant racial biased comments throughout. Get a life or come harder… it’s all good fun in competition!
I have begun to realize giving up smoking is very hard. I began using tobacco when I was in my teens. It was the worst mistake of my life. Now 30 years down the road and I have bronchitis. I tested out a huge number of the quit smoking tools however not one worked for me. My last hope is a electric cigarette in the end.
I smoked for many years. I know it injures my overall health therefore I must give up smoking though it has been very hard. None of the quitting steps did the trick. Then I saw the e cig. It has virtually improved my life. No longer inhaling and exhaling smelly smoke feels really good!
