Plus, the video was crazy when it dropped. Definite water cooler material. That song instantly reaffirmed Bey’s status as the number one R&B/Pop artist in the game.

I see your point Amp, but I think there’s a substantial difference between catchy songwriting versus good songwriting. Song of the year is in theory an award for songwriting – not catchiness/popularity but actual songwriting from a technical standpoint, and looking at it
from that angle and how it’s supposed to be determined there’s no way that should be song of the year.
At the end of the day the Grammy means nothing though it’s a popularity contest and not based on true muscianship.

That just shows you the Grammys need to be more considerate, take into account Taylor’s wingspan and NOT award her so many Grammys next time.

The-Dream can’t sing, has too many cuss words in his songs and the production sounds on his album are dated (Prince Jodeci Polow hybrid). And as much as I like the dude, he hasn’t really had a monster hit for himself like say an R. Kelly or Usher has had. Even Chris Brown has a song (Forever, No Air) that people no him for. Dram isn’t up there with Al Green, Teddy P, Stevie, Marvin, heck even Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams.
