For you vinyl enthusiasts (of the toys, not records), De La & Kidrobot have teamed up to release this set of 3″ figures to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Strong Island trio’s seminal debut, 3 Feet High And Rising. Each one comes with its own accessories & releases on March 18. Read the rest of this entry »
Gourmet keeps delivering with their take on casual shoes that are good for work or play. As part of their Spring arrivals that have been hitting shops, these two distinctly different versions of the L’Cinque are both eye-catching. The black nubuck model is nice but the honey version is the business. The Epi Leather is a premium leather used by classic luxury brands like LV and is every bit as detailed as one could want. With the majority of rap fans clamoring for a new “rap” album, Kanye ensures his 808s & Heartbreak breathes the air of another year and decade with the album’s (first) swan song. Read the rest of this entry »
Strike up the band! SxSW is less than a month away.
That means The Grand Ole Party is close to a round-two kick-off. That means a family reunion of bootleggers that prefer to call themselves tastemakers, thank you very much, is nearing a conglomerate of noteworthy proportions. And that really means you are slacking if you haven’t yet bought your plane ticket to Austin. Read the rest of this entry »
I waited all day to watch this, got sidetracked and nearly forgot. Kirsten Dunst is one of those actresses I’ve always had a thing for. By all accounts, she’s a lush so that’s one plus in my book. We could probably party extra hard one night, I’d make sure she was lubed up off the finest ripple my money could buy and then I’d make my move, hoping she was inebriated enough for grown folk things to happen. I mean bad things (not this bad though). You laugh, but it worked throughout high school and college. Read the rest of this entry »
Certain beats in the long hallways of Hip-Hop history are just better than their counterparts. It’s that simple. DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat” is one. Eminem’s “Stan” sent his career into another orbit. And Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” is still one of his more memorable records to date. The common bloodline between the three, you ask? Their legendary producer, DJ Mark The 45 King.
Before Vol. 2, Hovito was already a well known artist with two impressive LP’s under his Yankee fitted. When he found himself waxing poetics over 45′s ghetto symphony, however, his life and career changed. Five million records later, he ain’t been rhyming like Common since. He said it, not me. In the above clip, Jay and Mark break down the record and how it came to fruition and why it means so much to popular culture.
And while we’re at it, the Swedish have a good thing going with this documentary program. It’s actually the latest installment of “Hitlatens Historia,” a series detailing hit records and how they were created. Dope concept. Incredibly dope concept.
To see the entire piece, be sure to visit their site. And just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade (and/or extremely pro-Nas)…
Pundits will tell you Mr. Carter’s athletic ability has been on the decline for years. But every once in awhile he’ll hit you with a Roy Jones Jr. “Y’all Musta Forgot!”-brand dunk that puts him back on the radar. Such is true of his latest triumph over the Cleveland LeBrons Cavaliers yesterday. The Magic managed to rally and bring home the dub after Vince’s throwdown. The kicker here is seeing Vareflop getting the poster treatment. Too bad Delonte “WIYAH HANGAH!!” West had to get involved. Read the rest of this entry »
Word on the street is that wrestling is fake. Because of this, people tend to write wrestlers off as grown men in undies pretending to hit each other. Still, these guys take a beating and a lot of them are legitimate badasses.
For example, last night the Undertaker’s pyro malfunctioned, setting him on fire before his match at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view last night. I watched the event and didn’t notice. But this home video shows Undertaker catching on fire then hightailing it to the ring.
Here’s the kicker: he finished the match. He must have been in pain and scared out of his mind, but he still went in and performed in a match without any hiccups. Call wrestling fake if you want, but try finishing your job after getting caught in a pyro blast.
Ms. Adu’s voice has been a staple in my life as long as I can remember. Back in the ’80s she was dropping off albums like it was nothing, whereas now she subscribes to the Dr. Dre method of dropping an album off every decade or so before fading back in the shadows. Which is cool, her music’s worth the wait & she doesn’t disappoint. However, in today’s day & age when we know almost too much about artists, Sade remains a mystery. We’ve been deluged with videos performing “Soldier Of Love” from Ellen to The Price Is Right. But her speaking or doing anything else is a bit more elusive. Read the rest of this entry »
Basic Vocab serve notice that their second LP A Better Way could be a 2010 sleeper, with lead single “Shine Like a Star.” The track betrays the groups’ Miami roots, trading Latin rhythms for the jazz pianos of the NYC. And their lyrics aren’t sizzle like some other South Beach denizens (you know who I’m talking about Boss). This all steak—deep well-structured rhymes on living in hard times.
While most members of the Roc dynasty have chosen to air their grievances against Hov instead of putting in some actual work, Freeway has been one of the few to move on and carve a strong following, going the semi-indie route. Arguably, the only other individual has been Young Chris, who linked up onstage last week with his aforementioned Philly brother from another.
In this second part of our video footage from “The New York Stimulus Package,” reflect on some of the Roc’s glory days as Free & Chris revisit “Roc The Mic” and a few other recognizable records.
When you get to the pearly gates, God (or whoever that is that sits at the gates) will ask you your favorite quote from Black Dynamite. You better have one.
The movie is already a cult classic and the soundtrack is hotter than chili on a donut. To top it off, the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra makes music that’ll have your girl’s panties off by the second note.
Bonus — Here’s an interview and music footage of Adrian Young and company from the ASCAP Music Cafe at Sundance.
The common suede gray upper gets a dose of pop with the navy mesh toebox and red stripe on the midsole. Patriotic in not just colors but in muscle because, like any pair of NB’s, you’ll get your money’s worth in wears. Read the rest of this entry »
