Looking to provide charge to their system, Evisu Jeans commissioned Common Projects for Fall/Winter 2010. Favored for their simple approach, Common Projects sneakers consist of nothing more than quality leather, rubber soles and their signature small foil imprint on the heel. But thankfully that’s more than enough because that’s more time spent making sure each pair is constructed nearly to perfection. The navy pair pictured below is slick business but pair any of these with jeans and welcome to your weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

As fan for a minute, I can honestly say this is the Mistah F.A.B. album I have wanted to hear for some time now. In the past, he’s succeeded with a calculated balance on each album. Countering every street/Hyphy song there was always a joint where he flipped the dialog and spit from the heart. Don’t get it twisted, I’ll ride for “Super Sic Wit It” and “Sideshow” as much as the next, but his talent was so abundant it was clear he was capable of something impactful beyond the club.
With Prince Of The Coast, we get just that. The stories are vast and descriptive, the truths he speaks on are engaging and filled with emotion, and on the Rap tip I don’t think many people can fuck with him lyrically. All substance, not filler on this one so clear any preconceived ideas of what F.A.B. is or what Bay Area Hip-Hop sounds like and enjoy it for everything it is.

A few key cats I know from the A been buzzin’ Alley Boy’s name for a few months now so I’ve been waiting on this one. Purposely skipped all the hype and the majority of the leaked tracks, all because I wanted to hear it as a whole. Read the rest of this entry »
For the most part everyone’s week started on the same note. We watched Brees & the Saints prevail down in Miami and Peyton Manning, walk off the field dejected. But come Monday morning, the world went back to work while New Orleans kept partying. Brees may have been MVP, but I can rest in solace thanks to Tracy Porter making my prediction ring true. Yesterday was my niece’s birthday so, naturally went to Chuck E. Cheese’s. You know, where a kid can be a kid. Evidently, it is also where a kid can aspire to drop out of school, one coin insertion at a time.

Most hearts pump red & pink on V-Day, but da man with the sax, Terrace Martin, has blue blood in his veins all year round. The gift that keeps on giving in Hip-Hop is free music and T. Mart along with Snoop Dogg and several other Locke High representers have sealed their love for the game in a neatly wrapped package on The EP: Vol. 2 (Lovers Edition). Read the rest of this entry »
NBA heads rejoice! All-Star Weekend is upon us and we’re in for three days of top-tier basketball with some throwaway events in between. The kid likes basketball more than Kurtis Blow so you know I’ll be glued to the tube for the festivities. I decided to switch things up in anticipation for the weekend by cooking up some quick picks for the bigger events. We’re not counting filler like the Celebrity game or the WNBA/NBA/old fogy parity shootout either. Read the rest of this entry »

As a culture, we’ve come a long way since Kool Herc was spinnin’ records in the park. And, oh those kookie Atlantans keep pushing the envelope. First Big links with the Atlanta Dance Company and manages to work Hip-Hop into the dance circuit. Now, CNN features SMKA & A.Leon’s work with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
“This is a very special and unique collaboration between Hip-Hop and Classic that is truly the first of its kind. SMKA was commissioned by The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to remix a piece for their “Concerts for Young People” series. The song 808 Blake created is called “Music is My Life” produced by SMKA, and it is written and performed by Aleon Craft. Additionally, Parker Smith played the guitar and Brand Dorfman scored the peice. It has been performed 20 times since October 2009. CNN covered the collaboration last week and aired the special today.”
Three x dope. Imagine telling your mom or lady,”Nah I gotta go play with the orchestra tonight. CNN’s filming the performance and I got an interview with them after.”
Ms. Erykah’s fifth studio album, New Amerykah Part II: Return Of The Ankh, will be in stores on March 30th. And while “Window Seat” is the official first single, getting Wayne on “Jump…” as a web-only bonus and going viral with a video isn’t a bad move @ all.
Seven years ago, iTunes made buying MP3′s cool. Much like many of things Apple does, they weren’t the first to do it, but they made it easier & accessible. What once seemed strange, has become common place and is here to stay. So much that they’re coming up on their 10 billionth download and are in the mood to celebrate.

See, Diplo and I hear Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” differently. He apparently heard the similarities between Ri-Ri’s track and M.I.A.’s 2007 smash “Boyz” so he mashed the two together (and it creates a hectic yet rousing good listen). But when I hear “Rude Boy,” all I can hear is a hot sixteen appearance by an adolescent Lil Vicious. Read the rest of this entry »
