I remember when one of the initial Suite For Ma Dukes events first went down, there was bootleg footage being passed around and I asked J. Kim about if we should post it, seeing as how I thought it was relevant to getting the word out about the whole project. He asked me to wait and that their was something better to come.
Turns out, he was right and true to his word as always.
In 2009, VTech and Mochilla put on a 3 part event series entitled “Timeless,” showcasing The Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, and Arthur Verocai, and March 2010, they will be releasing a limited edition box set DVD of each event, w/ extra behind the scenes footage, poster, exclusive music, full liner notes, etc. Although the Suite for Ma Dukes event maybe most relevant and of interest, w/ it’s features from Posdnuos (De La Soul), Dwele, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Common, Karriem Riggins, and many others, all 3 events help create a bridge between producer/arrangers of yesteryear to the modern day hip hop producer.
Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and the Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra doing their rendition of “Take Notice” from J Dilla’s Ruff Draft EP. All in all, Dilla never sounded any realer than when paid tribute to by a full orchestra.
To get the whole spiel on the project as a whole and info on the release of the Timeless DVD, check VTech.

What I like about these sessions (and the El Michels Affair), is how comfortable it all sounds within an orchestral setting.
I’d like to hear them do ‘Pause’, that’s my ish.
INCREDIBLE!!!
