Who really knows what it actually takes to get L-Boogie from underneath the rock she uses for hibernation. I just presumed every three-odd years or so, she takes a gander at her bank account and deems it unacceptable. Ever the charming opportunist, she convinces concert promoters to let her take a stab at belting notes from songs that are nearly 20 years old.

And the fans? Well, they don’t seem to mind.

In all actuality, it excites them–gives them a false sense of hope. They’ll leave the performance with renewed faith in Lauryn Hill; blowing the dust off their physical copies of Miseducation like The Fugees are still a household name. Meanwhile our heroine of the past few hours is sneaking out the backstage exit with a six-figured check in tow, plotting for the day to rise again when another cameo will see her through.

Whatever. We’re all used to it by now. Ms. Hill was spotted in New Zealand this past weekend for the Raggamuffin Music Festival giving energetic peformances of her timeless material, such as the one of “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in the video above. Apparently she hasn’t birthed all her skills away.

Until next time L-Boogie. Give us that warrior face to keep us strong.
