At TSS, we mostly avoided discussion of Timbaland’s Shock Value II. If Timbo’s done with Hip-Hop then why not be done with him?

More importantly, the album could definitely have been a cornerstone in TC’s latest Brick House. Timbo’s wholesale fascination with making fluffy teen pop by bringing in the latest idols du jour degrades the man’ legacy. This is the same guy that made “Dirt Off Your Shoulder?”

Yet a hitmaker will always be a hitmaker, and no matter how I tried to dismiss the entire project, I have to admit that he can still make great records. Lead single “Carry Out,” is heading straight to #1 on the charts. At least respecting the JT-Timbo combo is acceptable in most Hip-Hop circles.

But a Timbo-Chad Kroeger combination? That’s straight up shameful. Yet the two combine for the best track on the album, a perfect potion of electro-pop backdrops and emotive crooning. The song’s subject remains unclear after a few listens, are Timbo and Chad reconnecting with squabbling lovers or going on drinking binges to avoid them? But no matter, the song’s infectious combination of melody and rhythm have me singing along. Guilty as charged.
