Unavailable on iTunes or Amazon, the lack of promotion behind The Roots’ last single has been an injustice to the fans worldwide, to say the least. Though, Jimmy Fallon has insured job security of some sorts, the people need that LRC in their life all the same.
The current industry standard teaches us not to give a fuck if a piece of music doesn’t sell seven figures in the week of its release or get multiple spins in 45 minute block on the radio. The Roots have always taught us Hip-Hop exceeds the traditional boundaries of chorus, beat + flash. That’s got to count for something right?

The Roots fell off after Phrenology
The Roots fell off after Phrenology
==========================
I just listened to that last album today so…yeah, gotta disagree. If so, how?
lol at the prospect of The Roots ever falling off.
salute. can’t wait for the album to drop.
i rep the 215 all day baby! the roots are was keeping hiphop alive. and thats a fact not an opinion.
Hub was the X factor. Without him, the band is nada..
Dante says: The Roots fell off after Phrenology
You mean YOU fell off as a listener. The thing the Roots have always done is try to re-invent themselves and its been said that Phrenology was something of a joke/bad direction.
Rising Down is easily one of their best albums. Like top 3, #3.
Phrenology cannot have been a joke … The Seed 2.0 alone is one of the best songs of the last decade … regardless of genre. Listen to that album again.
Single was not of replay quality besides how forced a singing song from tariq
bring back MALIK B.
bring back MALIK B.

Enh…don’t he have a habit now?
Datne, I agree with you. One could argue after Things Fall Apart. To me Thought spazzas out on tracks less and less and ?’s beats pretty much sound the same. I’d say, they’ve gotten Stale at the least.
The live version they did on Kimmel ethered the studio version IMO! How does exposure on the talk show translate into sales/downloads anyway? No one has been able to explain that to me.
the roots don’t fall off, they rise down
really gettin sick of rapidshare with their ‘all slots in use’ bullshit…
Malik B’s had a habit for a while. It’s why he wasn’t on Phrenology and the basis of the track “Water” that’s on that album, if I’m not mistaken. I’ve been riding with The Roots for years now, Game Theory’s probably my favorite joint of theirs. You gotta appreciate that they’re dedicated to making full albums as a cohesive piece of work every time they drop, not just a collection of singles and throwaways.
^Yeah Water was about Malik and a sick song to boot. One of my favorites along with Game Theory and The Seed 2.0.
I didn’t feel Rising Down as much as their other records. Not to say it was bad by any means, still The Roots and all. I don’t think I could pick a favorite out of their discography but Phrenology is waaaaay underrated.
Definitely looking forward to How I Got Over.
BT doesn’t black out on tracks? Their beats sound the same?
lol, listeners are becoming more and more fucked up.
90 percent of the time they drop an album, it’s one of the best of the year – FACT.
OK, I’ve the read above comments and would like to contribute as follows:-
You all craved for grounded and earthy sound and since the beginning The Roots vibes have always been organic.
We wanted some more so they sacrificed half a life in Illadelph to deliver this and just when it looked like things were falling apart, they asked us to get our domes examined by a Phrenologist.
For some this bold statement was the tipping point and they were ready to walk away.
So they were kind enough to lay down their cards and breakdown the theory of the game and taught us all that before we can over their next release we first had to rise down from the ground up.
They took us full circle, with an audio revolution, so how can you even say that The Roots fell off? Okay playa, whatever, whatever.
