Dr. King’s tragic murder was ultimately the turning point that set this country’s Civil Rights movement in motion towards significant change. By becoming a martyr for the crusade of freedom, his legacy was baptized in granite; immortalized for a teaching tool for past, present and future generations to grow by. But there’s always that lingering what if…
What if Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive? Would he be lampooned like Jesse Jackson or respected with the greatest of ease like Dr. Cornel West? Or how bout somewhere in the middle of distinguished leader and meddling activist like the Rev. Al Sharpton.
No one knows for certain. Born in 1929, MLK would have been a very achievable 81-years-old if was living as you’re reading this post. But in 2006, Aaron McGruder had his reservations on how our hero would exist in the days of gang violence and teen pregnancy. BET, iPods and shakey legs. And the results were nothing short of hilarious.
The most edutaining show of all-time, The Boondocks, divided generation gaps and ruffled feathers with a rousing dose of satire that included Dr. King being exposed to NSFW videos and addressing a congregation full of Lil’ Wayne fans as niggas.
Not for the sake of just saying it to be saying it, though. The sermon had an assortment of thought-provoking jewels that held a lot of truths in it. The episode even went on to win a Peabody Award. But hey, at the end of the day, it’s a comedy and MLK being denied entry in the club for wearing hard bottoms is exactly what the doctor ordered.
“I’ve seen what’s around the corner. I’ve seen what’s over the horizon, and I promise you, you niggas have nothing to celebrate. And no, I won’t get there with you…
I’m going to Canada.“

LOL, now I gotta watch that ep today
Wow. i woke up at 7 am and watched it! i like the way you think man….I am not a prophet, but sometimes I have prophetic dreams.
Great episode indeed.
The Boondocks is the goat animation show and this episode one of the many highlights
season 1, best season of any animated show ever, possibly the best satire season of any show. period.
This was a hilarious episode, but it was even more thought provoking.
thanks for posting the episode, I hadn’t seen it in a couple years. When my mom 1st heard about Boondocks, this is the one I told her to check out.
I often wonder how do past generations really feel about our communities nowadays. After allt he fighting & dying for substantial causes they had. How have so dropped the ball to become a generation of people who isntead of accumulate wealth just wear their wealth and plunge it into cars. Honestly, that’s what I see most days. Unfulfilled ambitions & uncompleted tasks. Something is wrong with our psyche as a people and not many people are willing to say anything of substance about it.
@Jet real talk right there, very well put indeed. Best post of the day, and I tip my hat to you.
WTF???….just seen this shit, Dorrough & Fela Kuti…it’s pure blasphemy

This episode made me respect The Boondocks on a whole new level. Though I think this speech should’ve been told to all of America and not just us. Niggerness exceeds color. It’s true.
I watched this episode earlier today. goodpost.
