“Hail Justo! 2K9″ – The Best Mixtapes Of 2009
Mixtapes By TSSCrew on January 6, 2010 at 11:56 pmThe streets are Hip-Hop and we’re Hip-Hop so the streets belong to us. No self respecting MC should be caught dead in those streets without viable (read: free) marketing for their fanbase. In our continuing efforts to give you the last of the 2009 in 2010′s first week, here’s the best of digital goods that circulating throughout the year.
Ranking them would be futile; different levels of base for the fiends. It’s all about who made the most noise combined with the best quality that get the recognition. Break out your hard drives.
“Everyday a star is born...” And J. Cole is just heating up.

Shoutouts to….because we couldn’t post Dead Ain’t Trappin without catchin’ legal flack.
Always thought War Angel was better than Forever King.
“Possibly the most celebrated mixtape of all-time”
my most celebrated mixtape is game’s youknowwhatitis vol. 3. that shit was classic. the whole tape went so hard.
out of all those^^^^^ i’d pick Gibbs. when i popped it in – having never heard the guy rap – i was fucking blown away how good he was. the whole thing is solid as granite.
Always thought War Angel was better than Forever King.

It was.
Spitta & Khalifa >>>
War angel is muuuuuch better than forever king. Gibbs ftw though.
I always heard I bullshit you not was better than the album which wouldnt be a huge accomplishment really..is it worth the DL?
Good list but I’d add Tiron’s Ketchup to this list. Cool Kids had my favorite mixtape of 09 hands down.
Diz Gibran’s Soon You’ll Understand deserves a mention.
Gone Fishing was cool but a little too thin lyrically to hold up the entire year. Gibbs had my favorite tape (Pac Div were runner’s up) but for some reason, How Fly has gotten the most repeat listens. I know MZ’s not a fan of songs that let the beat play out at the end but I think that’s exactly why this tape got so much burn from me. Great tape to just vibe out and smoke one to.
List is pretty on point with a list I’d come up with, except for two additions:
Mike Posner – One Foot Out The Door
Chiddy Bang – Swelly Express
Didn’t MTV give Drama “DJ of the Year”???
*squints*
Any of these tapes his?

If it’s intended & serves a purpose… by all means I’m for it. But most of the time, the beat doesn’t call for it and it’s more just a matter of being too lazy to craft a few more bars or fade the beat out.
good list. have to check out a couple of these. i’m a sound sleeper
r.i.p. Justo! dj of the year goes to J. Period. Thats my own award but he deserves it. dont front
PAc Div And So Far Gone
That Wale and 9th Wonder pic is a bit suspect though.
Good God I slept on that J.Cole. Thanks for the link!
List on point. Gucci Mane needs his own list.

Off topic but no idea how else you’re going to see this…
Giggs feat. Bobby Ray ‘Don’t Go There’ official video.
undoubtedly you’ve never heard of Giggs, UK rapper, quite hit or miss for me. Guess he gets love for how ‘real’ he is, either way feeling him or not another display of B.O.B’s great versatility for sure hopping on a track with a grime artist.
http://milkand2sugars.wordpress.com/2010/01/07/giggs-ft-b-o-b-dont-go-there-official-video/
p.s the video’s good too, grainy and simple.
LOL @ these bein’ “mixtapes”.
Good list.
My one gripe is where’s Trackstar at?
You know he had some excellent mix tapes that deserve some mention.
Great post, this is why TSS is so great.
TiRon’s Katchup was dope
2009 had some great mixtapes
What about the Freeway x Don Cannon – The Beat Made Me Do It
Definitely on my top 10 list

====================
Well, that would show obvious bias so we skipped those. But you can find nearly all of his tapes in both of these links…

All of Trackstar’s 2009 releases
http://shorttext.com/vgxaia95ge
And for the record, I just realized this list is shit b/c there’s no Boosie tapes mentioned.
hmm Definitely Diz Gibran and cannot believe nobody mentioned Dom Kennedy FS / DS yo now you know… check it out here
http://perennialvision.com/blog/?p=396
“Of All Time” featuring B.J has to be the song of the summer hands down..
Oh yeah and you ALSO for got B.J The Chicago kid on the R & B tip…now you know..check here, he has a tape called the New Beginning
http://perennialvision.com/blog/?p=1461
I’d say J.Cole had the best of 09′ but I’ve been listening to “the come up” since it’s debut up until “the warm up” so that might make a little biased…honorable mention Clipse”road to til the casket drops”
i’d like to give honorable mention to rich boy’s koolaide, kush, and convertibles. that tape had an overall coherent sound that, aside from being great summertime music, also showed the emergence of Supavillian as a nice cat behind those boards.
Does anyone see something amiss here?
This is quite the FIASCO huh?
Enemy of the State>That entire list
Just downloaded Freddie Gibbs from this list….incredible. Great stuff. I’ll be checking for that guy in the future.
No Dom Kennedy?
any chance to get a mediafire-megaupload-zshare link for the Drake one and the Jazzy Jeff one?
rapidshare always full lately.
thanx
no mike posner?
he set rap blogs on fire with the matter of time mixtape, and one foot out the door had tons of hype.
BURN AFTER ROLLING IS NOT ON THIS LIST…….
alot of missing tapes, including all of the above is guddaville
+ i would take 50 off the list
BEST OF 09, hard to say, jcole, bobby ray, drake, pill, no ceilings, its hard to decide..
Uknowbigsean should’ve been up there… I’m jus sayin…
EVERBODY”S NOBODY BY XV!!! and BURN AFTER ROLLING!!!
