“I perform in cities, hoods & slums, The best seller is drugs, and money’s the only thing that gets love, They say don’t let it make you, but that’s how they rate you, And the more you got, the more they hate you…”
Another page turns on the calender, but you’d never know it by strolling through an inner-city neighborhood. Things pretty much stay the same while the ever changing cast of characters are the only way of marking time. With an assist from Maino, The God MC breaks it down on this cut off his latest album The Seventh Seal.
While he’s always been one to drop knowledge on the mic, the visuals show he’s fully embraced the role of the corner OG.

SMH @ The R.
He’s playing a character people.
Best song on the album, sounds like it should have been on the 18th letter though.

After viewing all the year end wrap up’s about what was hot, what was not, what sold/tanked, Rakim’s “The Seventh Seal” was universally panned as sub-par work at best. However, when I heard ‘Holy Are You’I was psyched this would be a classic LP. I listened to the whole thing over a few times and never felt any track except this one. I’m glad Rakim is wise enough to pick the best track on the album, and having Maino (who I think is extremely underrated) doesn’t hurt, either. Just my two pennies.
