In 2009, Pitbull had over 120 million Youtube views.
If you were to combine the respective views of Jay, Kanye, Rihanna, KiD CuDi and even Drake, their total number of video plays still don’t meet that of Dade County’s top dog. Even further, the equally entrancing and annoying “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” is steadily approaching 91 million hits alone and is YouTube’s 4th most viewed music video of all time. What that tells me is that the current key-holder of Miami’s online game is pretty much killing every other rapper making music who’s not named Dwayne, with very minimal help from our influential online Hip-Hop/Rap blogging community.
Moral of the story?
To all you artists out there jumping on every instrumental MixtapeTorrent has to offer and dropping mixtapes by the hour in hopes of creating a career-building buzz…skip the bullshit and go make a hit. If you really want to succeed in the music business, forget your standards, how “Hip-Hop” you feel you need to be and go make music people want to enjoy, without having to over analyze it.
If you can find the right beat, it’s as easy as uno-do’-tres-quatro.

What people want to enjoy this though? lol
True
I hear this shit 24/7 on the radio. I can’t get into it, but the girls love it.
A comment on the youtube video: “90 million views is like 20 hispanic? families.” LMAO!

LMAO!!!
I hated that hotel joint till I saw the video, so I’m one of that 120 million, in fact I watched it a few more times after that. I am gonna check this one too now. It looks like what I wanna look at, lol, but I still don’t plan on even downloading it. Can’t hate on ad money though.
oh shit, i aint know pitbull did that song…i heard in the club a couple times but had no clue
This is why Freddie Gibbs, as talented as he is, probably won’t ever sell in a significant way.
Yelawolf, on the other hand, has the potential to be a serious problem commercially (not even considering the White Hope bump).
Sorry, kind of random- just two up and coming artists I have been listening to a lot lately.
And I would love to be proven wrong in the case of Gangsta Gibb$.
Have yet to hear this song.
Don’t think I want to either.
Now the ppl that are on this site reading this article that havent seen the video are going to youtube to check it out, theres more views for pitbull. i mean he can have all the views in the world but i bet half of the ppl that watched video didnt even like the song…LOL.
That shit is catchy as fuck. Nice pop song…
Those views have nothing to do with Pitbull or that song.
*calls up DR homies and inquires as to when the next family gatherings are*
This might work for Pitbull because that’s always been Pitbull’s demographic. The club/party goers. But I doubt going the pop route would work for artists like Gibbs or Pill.
But I have to give credit to Pitbull. The man can choose a hit.
its a banger. the honeys in the videos are cooler material, so he got the music and the visuals matching which makes it a hit.
and that shit about 20 hispanic families aint funny.
lol.
que tienen en contra mi hermano cubano Pitbull? HUH!?!?
lmao…but yeah…excellent point…you can hop on every mixtape and instrumental out there….but without creating hits nowadays…ain’t shit going to pop for ya whatsoever at all.
I also wish for Freddie Gibbs to prove me wrong on that as well…he’s just that damn good.

And that’s why the state of Hip-Hop & music in general is so sad. You gotta sell out in order to sell records.
SMH.
No knock against Pitbull doing what he does, but the fans refusal to accept anything that doesn’t scream “crossover” is hurting the genre.
Maybe I’m gettin’ senile in my advanced years; but I knew this is a hit soon as I heard it a while back.
It’s club music that’s slow enuff for everyone to dance to regardless of rhythmic acumen. (Slow chubby 2-left-footed cats can even two-step to this. Notice how PB is doing the old DameDashDice throw at one point.)
It’s club music that happens to work on radio. This ish was donna bang thx to strip club DJs and dance club DJ, with or without radio support.
Also, unlike most clown-fool labels, PitBull’s camp was smart enough not to disable the embed code like 90% of the other labels do. They let anybody who wanted to post/share do it. Try that with Universal/Interscope/WB, etc…
Hate all you want but as lesser cats from the south have proved again and again over the last 5 years, if you can make folks dance, you can make some money.
Thats brown pride right there. La Raza will make you a king if they feel you. Ask Ricky Martin, JLO, Gloria Estevan and Selena.
@ Black Cans..
“Also, unlike most clown-fool labels, PitBull’s camp was smart enough not to disable the embed code like 90% of the other labels do.”
That shit KILLS me!!!!! it’s fucking pointless. It helps the labels in absolutely no way and hurts the artists promo game. dumb dumb doo doo.
here i am wasting my time fucking with on DailyMotino videos….
fuck you atlantic records.
@ Black Cans –
I knew it was a hit the 1st time I heard it too.. If you DJ in ANY type of diverse market that has even a hint of Hispanic people and don’t play Pitbull at some point — You Are Losing.
Corporate holiday parties FTW!
Quality > Quantity.

Artistic Integrity > 120 million views on Youtube
i say good on him. he’s got his niche of flipping dance songs and making them anthems again.
he started out with jon n them, and taht flopped. coulda given up but he’s fucking towelling up the charts now!
Pitbull’s “Pearly Gates” >>> Any Pitbull joint in 2009
u can bring yo girlfriend just meet me at the hotel room
forget about yo boyfriend and meet me at the hotel room
that shit was a bonafide hit….hoes of all colors absolutely loved that shit…white, black , hispanic and asians amongst others. I always respected Pitbull even though I don’t fuck with but 40% of his music.
