4-Ize Feat. Señor Kaos – “Classic Example” Video

01.18.10 Written by TC

This is sick. In any/which way you wanna spin the word. From the demented (and brilliant) minds of 4-Ize, Señor Kaos and film group Studio 8 (directed by Mike Moore), comes a “Classic Example” of an entertaining video. It’s verbal manslaughter with the visual evidence of the crime. Read the rest of this entry »

“I Had A Dream…Once”

01.18.10 Written by TC

Dr. King’s tragic murder was ultimately the turning point that set this country’s Civil Rights movement in motion towards significant change. By becoming a martyr for the crusade of freedom, his legacy was baptized in granite; immortalized for a teaching tool for past, present and future generations to grow by. But there’s always that lingering what if… Read the rest of this entry »

Camp Leaks: Tha Bizness Edition

01.18.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Viral marketing has led to the rise of the self-made superstar and introduced an entirely new grind to today’s artists. Seeing as how very few labels have ever mastered the concept of promotion, the world wide web afforded instant access to the consuming public. For all the positive reinforcements the online world provides, there remains one pitfall. The rise of the Internet has ultimately led to the death of surprise in Hip-Hop. CBR On NPR

01.18.10 Written by MZ

Since public television got some shine, why can’t LC’s first love get some as well?  Last night, I was all set to turn in early after checking out The Book Of Eli until I found out NPR had a stream of Corinne’s The Sea on their site. Needless to say, I had to give it a spin before calling it a night. Read the rest of this entry »

SMKA – The 808 Experiment Vol. 2 Mixtape

They gave you some hydro harmony with Aleon Craft and hit home with Yelwolf. Gave a monumental backdrop to Tanya Morgan and let Pill change the game up. By now, it’s crystal clear SMKA have the skill sets to be diverse while still allowing any given artists rest comfortably in their niche. Read the rest of this entry »

Video: Jay Electronica Performs “Exhibit C” @ Highline Ballroom

01.18.10 Written by Gotty™

While everyone isn’t sold on the critical praise being lauded on Jay Electronica, there’s no denying “Exhibit C.” Robbie questioned whether it was the “Time’s Up” of today. I see the parallels but I can’t even say I fully agree with that either. Already, there’s a mini-movement being lead by Rap’s Lucifer and Just Blaze for the artist and song to “save real Hip-Hop.” If we’re speaking from a commercial standpoint, perhaps a track like this can give radio a shot in the arm. However, I don’t think one song is going to save “real Hip-Hop” nor am I of the belief the real needs saving.

Right now, “Exhibit C” is a flaming track from a guy who’s immensely talented but whose output doesn’t warrant the hype bandwagon leaving the depot yet. I told someone, I remember being in huge anticipation of his material…two years ago. Then, it was if he went nonexistent and disappeared. It remains to be see if Jay can do several songs of the same magnitude or even stick around this time around.

But I digress. Footage of the the man of the hour, Puffy, Kweli on stage together @ Mos’ show last night @ the Highline in NYC.

Rhymefest Feat. Little Brother – “How High” x “Say Wassup”

01.18.10 Written by K1NG

El Che, Chi-town wordsmith Rhymefest’s sophomore album, has been an album yours truly has been looking forward to since his freshman set Blue Collar overtook my iTunes playlists back in 2006. Unfortunately, the album has had enough leaks to make Timbaland’s camp look airtight. If that’s not enough, more than one of his album tracks have been given to other artists. Needless to say, Mr. Smith has since left the Hip-Hop graveyard that is J Records for greener pastures (which has not been determined as of yet). Read the rest of this entry »

So much for drama.  Save for the Chargers and Jets, the games this weekend were almost over before they started.  The teams who were supposed to win took care of business for the most part and one underdog is still in the hunt.  Setting up for what should be a couple of good match-ups next week, take one last look at how those teams got there. A World Of Opportunity

01.17.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Unbeknown to the great majority of Americans, there is some 10, 11 or 12-year-old kid who swings a bat harder, shoots a jump shot better, putts a golf ball more precise or throws a football with more accuracy than anyone his or her age. They are what you would call child prodigies. By the time they are old enough to graduate from high school and generate nationwide hoopla, they become teen phenoms. In this case, meet John Wall and Byrce Harper, two athletes who are sure to help change the landscape of their respective sports. Read the rest of this entry »
