While it’s been six years since anyone was able to hear those trademark phrases in that distinctive, raspy growl, Michael Tyler b.k.a. MC Mystikal is breathing air as a free man.
In 2004, the rapper was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to forcing his hairstylist to perform sex acts (which included oral sex and sodomy). He also admitted to extortion. The rapper and two bodyguards forced the woman to perform various sexual acts, and accused her of stealing $80,000 in cheques. Mystikal initially denied the assault, but confessed after a videotape of the crime was found at his home. Bodyguards Leland “Pokie” Ellis and Vercy “V” Carter also pled guilty to sexual battery.
Over half a decade of incarceration is like an eternity in the music biz. Seeing that Crunk and Auto-Tune lived and died in his absence, what will be the trend that Mystikal latches on to get back in the race? How bout releasing a hard drive’s worth of mixtapes and EP’s in under a year? Yeahhh, that will make him relevant!
He’s already wasted no time getting back in the press. After being released last night, he hit up New Orleans’ Q93 for some Q&A and sounded optimistic and enthusiastic the entire time.

Naw G, 38 definitely isn’t too old to be rapping but after being gone for 6+ years I think it will be difficult to re-establish himself and find a lane in a short time. Its not like he’s going to come out and be right back where he started. The landscape of the game has changed so much.
Also G, when I mentioned his age I was speaking moreso of the years he wasted while he was in jail. Not saying his career is over, but rather large opportunities missed. Who knows how big Mystikal would be if he had kept making music for the last 6 years. He was getting Grammy nods and had some extremely successful records before he got locked up.
Hell, Bun B, Scarface, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Q-tip are all
around their 40s and still relevant!!! 38 aint nothing..
