For any wrestling fan, there are two glory periods: the 80′s, which brought us the Four Horsemen, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior and a bunch of other wrestlers that dominated our childhoods. The second golden age came in the late 90s, when WCW and WWF (as they were called at the time) faced off head-to-head every Monday night in a ratings battle that brought out the best in both organizations. This era gave us Stone Cold, The Rock, DX, NWO and Goldberg.
Of course, WWE won the war and bought WCW. Wrestling hasn’t been the same since. It’s mostly sucked. But tonight is a possible return to the glory days with TNA (which stands for Total Nonstop Action…pervs) putting on a three-hour show to go head-to-head with WWE Raw. If you’re confused about which one to watch, have no fear, TSS will be your TV guide.
Tale of the Tape
TNA: For those of you that don’t know (which I’m sure is a good number of you), Impact! comes on Thursday nights on Spike TV. For the most part, the company has produced some pretty bad television with poor writing and low-budget production. But they have some of the best wrestlers in the world with A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Kurt Angle and Desmond Wolfe. However, they focus too much on washed up old WWE stars and head-writer, Vince Russo, who may be the worst writer of anything ever produced on television. (He once made David Arquette WCW champion).
WWE: This is the gold standard. They’re Hov. The Yankees. The Lakers. Vince McMahon and co. have dominated professional wrestling for a decade. They have the big named stars of HHH, John Cena, Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. The problem, though, is the fact that WWE has had the same stars in their main events almost every month. The product is getting stale and the fans are getting restless.
The Monday Night Line-up
TNA iMPACT!: TNA has scored a major coup by hiring Hulk Hogan to come in and revamp the program. There are also rumblings of other stars possibly showing up. Nobody knows what to expect from the show and it is sure to be newsworthy. Here’s the problem: Hulk Hogan is self-centered and not the greatest mind in wrestling. There is a chance that this could be a big disaster. If it is, it’ll still be compelling to watch.
WWE RAW: I was curious to see how Vince would respond to the direct challenge from TNA and Hulk Hogan. Would he just ignore the competition from a company that may or may not be a legit threat? Well, Vince answered by bringing back Bret Hart, who hadn’t been on WWE TV in 12 years. This is a huge deal, especially now that he and off-camera rival Shawn Michaels may meet face-to-face and you never know what’s going to happen.
Final Verdict: Undoubtedly I’ll be flipping channels between shows, but if I had to pick one, I’d stick with old faithful especially with the return of Bret Hart. Hopefully TNA puts a good enough show to merit a return to the Monday Night Wars and the high quality we saw during that time.

Bret Hart coming back to WWE? Wow…even after McMahan killed his brother? The Excellence of Selective Memory
Until they get rid off Russo TNA will be second fiddle.
wow I didn’t think bret, would come back ever after vince, ya know, KILLED HIS BROTHER!!!
TNA needs to drop Russo and bring in Paul Haymen! ECW!!!!
I will never accept them being called WWE…WWF just sounds so right.
I was a Stone Cold fanatic growing up, but I remember watching that Survivor Series where Vinny Mac cheated Hart out of the match. I thought it was staged @ first. Little did I know.
You know when Bret and Shawn Micheals go at it, it’s gonna be one helluva show.
nWo
Bret Hart screwed Bret Hart.
AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle put on a wrestling clinic for TNA. the whole show was good…not bad, not great…but good…until those two laced up them boots.
Jeffy Hardy and Ric Flair going to TNA as well is major.
WWE…had the emotional moment with Bret Hart and HBK…after that, WWE just didn’t catch my attention until the end with Vince kicking Hart in teh balls.
all in all….it was an exciting monday night to say the least.
@PSA
almost 100% agree. i cant allow myself to get all hyped up for the BIG bret hart and shawn michaels…. hug. blah…
tna on the other hand. i get that it was alot of older wwe guys. but in a way, thats ok. its like when your nba team makes a trade, you dont know if its gonna work. but you have a good sense of excitement in your system. so we’ll see how these guys work out.
but as far as aj vs kurt, not to mention the “who needs bret” chants during their match, that was damn impressive. i dont watch wrestling shows as often as i did in the 90s, but that was exciting and immaculate in every sense.
it felt like being a middle school/high school kid again. good times… good times
TNA is garbage. You bring in a guy who only a few months ago held the WWE Title, one of the most popular wrestlers on their roster, and put him in a segment with a midcard nobody like Homicide.
After the all the hype about this “new direction”, how does the show end? With a watered down NWO redux beatdown angle straight out of WCW circa 1998.
Just garbage.
….and a “leprechaun” who makes noises, but cant talk, a hug between 50 year old guys, and vince kicking a stroke victim in the stomach isn’t garbage?
WOLFPACK!!! one of the best themes in wrestling
sting is still the shizzz
….and a “leprechaun” who makes noises, but cant talk, a hug between 50 year old guys, and vince kicking a stroke victim in the stomach isn’t garbage?

Raw had its own set of problems. The non-Bret segments/matches were just so bland and at times outright boring. Obviously Bret was going to be the focus of the night, but they really failed to properly highlight the wrestlers that viewers brought in by Bret don’t know as much about. The Orton/Kingston feud has been booked fantastically…right up until tonight in which they ended up in a match that no one will give a crap about tomorrow.
AJ vs. Angle >>>>>>>> anything TNA and WWE put out tonight
’nuff said
and just on another, related note…
TNA’s eye candy, namely the beautiful people, are far better than WWE’s divas
Ever since I heard Hitman was coming back, I’ve been waiting for you do this post DD.
It was extremely on point…with one exception.
Samoa Joe is FAR FROM one of the best wrestlers in the world.
He’s a fat piece of shit who couldn’t wrestle his way out of the garbage can he lives in.
i think the tag teams of tna are better than wwes.though tna is a new company they more fun to watch.but wwe espcially their pay per views are much more better than tnas.
