Last week while sheet creeping with my lady, a very odd voicemail popped up from my phone. It was strange in the sense that my outdated Samsung never rung once, but more so because of the extremely random message that was left. “Hi (Beware), um…I usually don’t do this, but…your friend gave me your number last night at the bar, because when you were there I thought you were cute and well, I hoped you might want to go out and get a drink sometime.” Blah blah blah yada yada yada. As the young lady continued to tempt, I became more and more confused as to how this happened considering I hadn’t even been to the bar in weeks, when the extremely believable female finally said, “Oh and one more thing…I’m not real.“

And I’m an idiot.

Turns out, a friend of mine had just discovered Captain Morgan’s latest and possibly greatest marketing campaign, “Calling All Captains,” which allows pranksters to choose from a few customizable characters and scenarios in order to capitalize on the gullibility of their buddies. All you do is enter your friend’s name and physical characteristics to make it believable, and bam…straight hilarity. The bartender will call them, hounding for an unpaid tab. A menacing boyfriend dials in order to set them straight for hitting on his girlfriend. And, of course, the cute chick with no shame calls for a date.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get someone as bad I did my friend Mike, who hasn’t been on a date in years and had his world collapse when he realized he was about to engage in a date with a recording.

Sucks for him. Great for you.
