“The Great Mistapes…”

12.30.09 Written by Corey Bloom

jdavey-boudoir-synema_front_cover

Melting Punk, Funk, Rock, and Electronica over a Hip-Hop base J*Davey, the duo of producer Brook D’Leau and vocalist Jack Davey, has created an undeniable pop fusion with broad appeal and individual niche interests. You could mindlessly dance the night away, or study the slump and seductive lyricism for hours and obtain equal levels of enjoyment. It’s a win/win no matter how you flip the coin.

With their latest free EP, Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes, the group slows the tempo and showcases their strongest song writing and structure to date. As the title hints, it’s music for the boudoir; sensual, elegant and airy with room to move and squirm. While “Fight The Daylight” is the J*Davey listeners have become familiar with in the past, tracks like “Get Together” and “Crawl All Over” hint at something new. There are no weak links in the five song EP, and with an album on Warner Brothers looming the horizon looks bright for the group. Whether The Mistapes is a glimpse into the direction the group is going or merely a stop on the way to the master bedroom remains unknown, regardless it’s safe to assume J*Davey is doing something special.

And, with the New Year fast approaching, “Fight The Daylight” seemed like an appropriate choice to give you to sample.

Tor’cha 2.0: We Back And You Mad About It Mixtape

torcha-mixtape-v20-front

Truck North lead the charge of this Hip-Hop promotional vessel for tor’cha, a novel from author Todd Craig which chronicles the lives of an urban youth trio as they’re faced with the perils and hardships that run rampant throughout the ghetto. Equally heavy in the streets is Tor’cha 2.0: We Back And You Mad About It Mixtape as 50 Cent, Raekwon and even an unreleased Mobb Deep song act as the soundtrack to its accompanying tale. Momma D always told me not to stick my nose into other people’s business. And I generally don’t take the time to get into these Internet squabbles. But this is the last straw.

Here’s the background: Elliot Wilson, Hip-Hop journalist superstar and head honcho at Rap Radar wrote a “Blackout” blip about Lupe Fiasco. Read the rest of this entry »

Boo Feat. Curren$y & Capo – “Rooftop” Video

12.30.09 Written by Gotty™

*Puts thumb and forefinger close together until they’re almost touching*

I was that close to titling this “Curren$y featuring two lame dudes” because Spitta’s verse is the only reason I’m subjecting you to the video. Since 2/3′s of those listed are former members of the Cash Money roster, I’m guessing that’s the relationship, even though I have no idea who “Capo” is or what exactly he’s in charge of. And Gotti (no relation)? Maybe he couldn’t get off work in time to make the video shoot. Who knows.

Off Cannon’s Cool Guys Always Finish First Mixtape, which you can download here if you’re interested.

Just a disclaimer: this is not your average remix. The original showed its range by banging from all types of various car systems. Now with Kidz In The Hall’s Naledge, Gibbs The Gangsta, Fabby Davis Jr. all adding their lyrical expertise to the mix and Khrysis on the boards, expect the influence to spread even further. The Cooler: A 2009 Retrospective

12.29.09 Written by Word

Hello. My name is Word and I’m the never-heard-from TSS Crew member. I can usually be found in the basement mumbling Jay-Z lyrics while keeping the machine well-oiled. But today I’m upstairs and making a post.

Since the beginning of the year, your eyes have been blessed with a diverse variety of “Cooler” chicks. From the Slim Goodies to the Thickum Thickies, we take a look back at some of the lovely ladies who most likely caused accidents in your pants. Read the rest of this entry »

“Pass The Dutch” – Review Of Young Money’s We Are Young Money

12.29.09 Written by TC

we-are-young-money1

Many rap crews are formed but very few are poised to be shaped into dynasties. 2009 will undoubtedly go down as the year of Young Money as Lil’ Wayne rode his popularity wave in from 2008, while staff sergeants Drake and Nicki Minaj shone bright on their own reconnaissance. The next step could be foreseen by the blindfolded: the Cash Money junioraires assemble to release an average compilation to capitalize on their current omnipresence. We Are Young Money, a platform to launch the careers of lesser known acts such as T-Streets, Lil’ Chuckee & Twist, doesn’t quite meet its goal with musical significance that’s less than stellar. Not to mention all of the album’s content is more shallow than a Kardashian. Read the rest of this entry »
