In my MPSM 800 (Internship I) class, our final exam was to deliver an elevator pitch. Essentially, it is a 45 second to one minute spill you would give an executive on why they should hire you to be apart of their company. A verbal resumé of sorts you could say. Up and coming artists do this everyday with the music they create. Some get signed, while others don’t make it past the block they so passionately claim in their music. On this recently liberated Wale Folarin cut, the DMV’s lead man used this Osinachi instrumental to do just that. Let Dan from elitaste tell it:
So in the spring of 2007, I suggested to Wale that he create an audio manifesto of what he wanted to accomplish as an artist once he signed. DC producer Osinachi, the maestro behind “Nike Boots” who is now part of Rodney Jerkins’ team, blessed Wale with the beat for “The Meeting” and Wale, how do you say, “went in.” This became the first track we played in label meetings and for a time, it was discussed that this would be the intro for Attention Deficit. In retrospect, I think Wale stayed true to the goals set forth in “The Meeting” and you can still hear the hunger in his voice. So 2.5 years later, this track is emancipated. And make sure you cop Attention Deficit if you haven’t done so already.
Who knows the reason this didn’t make the cut, but it would have surely served as a monster intro track for Attention Deficit. Regardless, I’m not complaining because homie has been on streak lately dropping quality material. I wouldn’t be mad at a “Lost Tapes” type release. I’m just sayin’.

Oh!! This is the track they talked about in URB when I read about Wale for the first time! After reading that article I always wondered if I would ever hear this song.
This is better than a majority of the material on Attention Deficit.
Damn- he kills it

Dear Label,
Let Wale construct and guide his own project.

On another note, did you hear whats the Xmas Number One in the UK?
RATM ‘Killing In The Name Of’!!
That’s right. I’m proud to say that this is a nation that STOOD UP
against the chart dominating tyranny of Simon Cowell and his
‘X-Factor’ show.
For 4 years the X-Factor has been on TV for months leading up to the
big finale then release of the winner’s song (which was already
planned for whoever won the contest)… and for 4 years they went in
the chart at No 1.
The best it ever got got was when Leonna Lewis won a couple back.
Otherwise there’s just been a procession of gormless, forgettable-
and-now-returned-to-obscurity lads.. including this years winner
whose name I forget.
So some one started a Facebook campaign, choosing RATM cos of the
chorus: ‘FUCK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME’ – and the bands name
I guess.
X-Factor winner sold 450K – including CDs and d/ls. RAGE did
500K on downloads alone (I bought it myself, the gesture is worth
supporting.
It’s a small but great victory.. and funny as fuck!
Dopeness. I slept on Wale but was officially a fan after hearing Beast.
RATM > Everyone else
i love Wale tracks like these. got that epic sound behind it, and Wale delivers each time.

When was the last time an artist came up in co-signed by your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper and still made you go, “whaa?”. Everybody was doing a Whaaa… lay? But dude came in on the track and he knew exactly what executives were looking for. This is the brainchild of an MC that has been perfecting his craft for years, and by hearing this there is no doubt in my mind why he is signed to a major. Granted, as Gotti stated, he needs to be his own A&R and manager, but you can’t deny God given talent. Wale has it.
And as a side note—I don’t know about the rest of you, but right now is a damn good time to be a fan of hip-hop. Some of the music I’ve heard this year coming from left field, the right coast, north of the border, and resonating in our Southern districts is really putting hip-hop back on the map. It almost feels good to be a fan/stan again. If ever, I think 2010 is going to be a break-through year for our culture and I’m excited to be on the cusp of it. Wale, J Cole, Drake, O.J, Crooked, Pill, Classified… and that’s not even scratching the surface of the talent in the game pushing work right now.
Being a fan never sounded better.
I haven’t read any of the numerous comments above but I’m sure all the Wale listeners know that if he was given as much control over the content placed on the album as kid cudi probably did, it would easily made my top ten of the year.
Now i dont even give most of the album a bump after the initial one time listen and choose to recommend his mixtapes as opposed to his album
